My 2nd swim in 3 weeks and you could tell :meh:  I just felt sloppy.  Plus I think the girl in the lane next to me was trying to race me and I really didn't feel like swimming any faster but somehow that competitiveness kicks in when I feel like someone is pushing off the wall right when I do a flipturn:mutmad:  Anyway, just 1600 meters at lunch and it was slow.

I had been feeling a little slow in the water the last couple of weeks, but today seemed better.

800 yards warm-up/kick/drills

20 X 100 (15sr)

200        cool-down

3,000 yards total.

Yeah...I get that competitiveness...that's why I like to swim in a lane all by myself. I can't let it go!

Tues. workout: 3000y semi-speed:

w/u: 300y sw, 100k, 300y sw
4x (300y moderate, 2x75 fast)
400y (alternate 100s easy/moderate)
c/d: 100y

how much should I be swimming before I start worrying about speed? For the last couple of months I've been doing in between 30-45mins straight I do mix up my strokes

I think you're fine, just start out with a few 100s with 30 sec. rest in between, work up to maybe 5 or so sets? 5 really isn't the magic number, but it's something to shoot for. I also like to do 200s or 300s (depending on distance I'm training for), so I can practice keeping my speed under control for the multiple longer sets.

How is your form?  If you have good form, it makes sense to start adding some speedwork.  But like Ankah said, lots of my speedwork is actually longer, like I consider 200s speedword.  500s seem to improve my times the most.

Aah, I was being competitive without even realizing it!  :laugh:
I think I'm just fooling myself though...the main reason I do the 500s is b/c of my injury - 200s would probably be better for me but it hurts more the next day - I guess b/c I'm working harder.

I'm thinking about doing the Lake George swim next year has anyone done it?

Wow, you're really jumping right back in. How are you feeling about it, do you feel like you've lost the endurance, or are you getting it back? It seemed to take forever for me to feel like I got it back.

Cardio wise I feel better than I expected.  I went harder on the main set today than I had previously and my arms were fatigued by the end.  I'm trying not to overdue it though.

I've never known.  Probably meters judging from the time it takes me to swim a lap, but I'm not really even sure it's 25 across.  :blush:
