Having off yesterday has messed with my days.

Winter precip - how's it been so far? Do you usually have a white Xmas?

Mostly rain here other than the one snowstorm a few weeks ago, which ended up being a mess as it was much more snow than forecast and happened midday into the evening. So glad I don't commute during weather events like that! White Christmas here is hit and miss, mostly miss. If it happens this year, I will miss it as I will be down in FL wearing shorts and short sleeves.

Oh. And since we've had one good snowstorm I am good with snow for this year. No more please.

Run yesterday evening, an easy 5 mile dog jog with the Lady up at the local trail. Nothing special. Our friend the owl was not out hooting at dusk. Maybe head over to the lake late this afternoon for a few trail miles. Lunch time run is out due to do work calls. Cold here today. Ground is crunchy and frozen. Actually hopes it stays that way for my run later else it will be thawed muck on the trails.

I always felt that way about snow too. Nice to get one pretty snowfall, and that is pretty much all I need for the year!
Parent - By Doughboy (spamkiller) Date 2018-12-05 10:43 AM
I'm the same way with snow. I want one good snow day (preferably a Friday) when work is closed. Then I can bake all day Friday. Ideally, the temp will rise overnight so that streets on Saturday morning will be clear enough for running.
Parent - By PoopedColt Date 2018-12-05 11:10 AM
Yeah, we never close. We would have to pay the snow and emergency peeps overtime otherwise. We just got the email from HR saying if you can't come in on time, fine - just use your vacation time.

Of course, at least I don't work it anymore! A few in my office still do. And that one Xmas Eve/Xmas my co-worker had to work 7pm-7am out in the snow and Xmas is his BDAY! he was not a happy camper

We are bracing for a winter wonderland this weekend.  They say 12” of snow followed by wintery mix.  If that happens, we will shut down for a week.  Well, everyone but work.  I hope the gym isn’t down for too long, but I’m not expecting much. We rarely have a white Xmas. I can only remember one. Someone hit my car parked on the street while we were gone.

Long run this morning - 15 miles.  Same as last week, but 2 min. slower.  A bit bummed by that.  I thought it felt awesome and amazing and looked at the watch after the first 10K and it was 1:30 slower than last week.  So I tried hard to pick it up, but the second loop was 30s slower than last week.  Oh well.  It felt OK.  I tapped my ankle about half a dozen times.  It only hurts when I press on the bone – or tap it with my foot running, but it’s still a lovely shade of purple down by the arch.  Then I followed with Ap Ripper X.  and now I am back at work.  Joy

DH got a pic of our 8 y.o. varmint yesterday.  He’s our jumper.  https://pix.sfly.com/jy0txh  And if you can see the round white ornament roughly to the right of the tree level with his paw – the cross stitched one with a genie lamp on it.  We have about a dozen of those on there.  DH’s grandma made them probably 75 years ago!

Great pic!
Parent - By Xtreme Taper Date 2018-12-05 8:47 AM
Geez. That is a ton of snow for your part of the world. You can't catch a break down there.

Sorry about the ankle, but I wouldn't fret too much about 2 minutes over 15 miles.

I'm staying true to what I said and cutting back a little this week. I wanted to go run with DH today but ... sigh ... I'm off to yoga. This is a tough teacher and I'll try and get in the hot box and sweat big!

So excited for tonight! Mrs. Maisel is back!!!!!:hug::hug::hug:

Mrs. Maisel is one show I have to catch up with. (At some point after I finish the last episode of the first season of Handmaid's Tale, and then the last four episodes of the first season of The Crown.)

Enjoy yoga!

We had a wintry mix 2 weeks ago that stayed as snow for longer than the weather guessers thought it would.  Other than that, just a LOT of rain.  I think we're in the zone for some flurries today & they are not sure if the storm PC is expecting will impact us on Monday.

White Christmas...who knows?

Taught spin class this morning & did core, shoulder & hip exercises afterwards.

We had one snowstorm a couple of weeks ago, and it was a nightmare. Fortunately, I was home by the time the snow started falling, but it ended up taking the fam 2.5 hours to get home (about 30 miles on the highway). Several months ago, I dreamed there was going to be a blizzard on Christmas day this year. Really do not want that one to come true! I will be just fine with a gray and brown Christmas. Now it's just cold here -- I did have to get out pants this morning instead of shorts.

8.21 mi this morning.

Yesterday was National Cookie Day, but I had no time to celebrate appropriately. That means some cookies will happen tonight.
Parent - - By donnasaur [us] Date 2018-12-05 10:06 AM

Parent - By Spingoddess [us] Date 2018-12-05 12:57 PM
Was that the storm that shut down NJ too? Philip was stuck on the highway for TEN hours in that one. I'm still so pissed about how the state handled that one.

Well, what KIND of cookies? Details are important, sir!

7km hill treadmill workout......in room temperature!  Outside -2C (feels like -7C) clear and awesome skies.  Molly is getting a fairly extensive hike later so I don't feel bad about not running in the dark.  Pepe the cat came inside for about 10 minutes this morning like she owns the place.  I wash  wish I could let her hang out all day.

I have always had a white Christmas (at least my Canadian Christmassssssses) but so far it's still brown here with 20 days to go.  I'm quite confident we will get snow soon but whether it stays or not is another question.
I love the snow to lighten up the dark mornings as long as I can drive around and do my usual stuff.

4.00 miles w/ Benji this morning - we didn't encounter anybody else running, but did see 2 folks out walking dogs, and one person who had their let dog out in the front yard (off leash) scurrying to get said dog before it ran over to meet us. sigh

did 90 minute Bikram class after work yesterday - so warm and toasty in there.

we rarely get snow here, but in 2009 we actually had a white Christmas, so... there's always hope I guess
Parent - By donnasaur [us] Date 2018-12-05 10:08 AM
i didn't see runners this morning, but lots of dog walkers!
Parent - By Doughboy (spamkiller) Date 2018-12-05 10:44 AM
I saw two dog walkers this morning, too, both very, very early. And both dogs went nuts when I ran past them. :shocker!: (I saw the poodle, so wasn't surprised when that dog started barking, but the German shepherd scared the wits out of me.)
Parent - By PoopedColt Date 2018-12-05 11:15 AM

Parent - By brneydrnnr (barney cougar) [us] Date 2018-12-05 2:12 PM
since I started back, no. I just have to get into camel pose very slowly (that one is the worst for dizziness!) I've been making sure to guzzle water all day before going to class though, so I think that has helped a lot.

2009 was the first Christmas we spent in Texas.  It made the kids feel :happy:
- - By donnasaur [us] Date 2018-12-05 10:02 AM
We don't really need to do much winter prep. I do worry about snow days with school, since the roads are truly terrible here with any snow and N goes to school so far from home. I think for now if there is any chance of snow i will just keep her home rather than worry about it. It is very doubtful that we will have a white Christmas, but we did have one several years ago, so it is possible! Last year we were in Connecticut and it snowed on Christmas Eve. My nephews were all blase about it but N totally lost her shit.

Run was 3.5. I know some of you get up crazy early, but for me getting up at 4:45 today to squeeze it in was a victory. Was able to get myself ready and finish packing by 6:30,drove N to school (rather than the bus) leaving a little after 7 and making it to her school at 7:30, then to the airport by 8:05 for a 9am flight. I feel accomplished, but will be dragging by 5pm Pacific time! On the plane now. Will catch up on some email, play around on here and hopefully have time to read for a bit.
Parent - - By Doughboy (spamkiller) Date 2018-12-05 10:45 AM
I forgot that it snowed on Christmas Eve last year!

How long is the biz trip?
Parent - - By donnasaur [us] Date 2018-12-05 10:46 AM
Two days, I am home on Friday. We have our company holiday party thursday night so I am staying for that.

If you are a 5 year old from Texas, snow on Christmas Eve is pretty much the most magical thing you can imagine.
Parent - By Doughboy (spamkiller) Date 2018-12-05 10:58 AM
Our company holiday party is a week from tomorrow. Amazingly, I suddenly had an urge to plan to go into NYC that day to see the city dressed up for the holidays.

Parent - - By PoopedColt Date 2018-12-05 11:17 AM
Good for you for getting it done! does Texas send kids when the roads are bad? I figured y'all would be like us. We close at event the threat of snow. And they don't go back until the last street is all clear
Parent - By donnasaur [us] Date 2018-12-05 11:20 AM
It snows so rarely I can't remember! Last year was N's first year of public school and we had no snow at all. Her old pre-school was on campus at the university where R works, and they followed the schools. If there is any snow at all they close, but two years ago we were surprised by a mid day snow and it took me forever to get her. Basically if we get a surprise like that the minute I see a snowflake I will go get her. It will probably take hours!

Climate change- almost never a white Christmas here anymore, though it used to be almost guaranteed. But as much as I like snow, I like clear streets and sidewalks when I run, so I'll remain neutral here.: pbbt: When I was a kid, my mom would take us kids from Buffalo (there was always snow in Buffalo back then) down to Florida over winter break to visit my grandparents,  and it would always cause intense cognitive dissonance when I saw Christmas lights, but it was 75° out.

45 minute spin class today, some tough climbing intervals. Headed to work now.
Parent - By donnasaur [us] Date 2018-12-05 10:10 AM

I remember someone from Australia telling me a story once about going surfing on Christmas Day.  Did not compute. :laugh:
- - By essel [us] Date 2018-12-05 11:09 AM
Not really prepping for Christmas. My BF is doing all the work :) House has lights already and tree will be set up soon. No snow in CA, unless we go to the mountains which still is not planned, but we may just go for few days.

I'm little disappointed with the pool mgmt. Last night we showed up and public had only 1 lane available: 4 were taken by Malibu swim team (which I understand, the kids need to swim somewhere and have some routine) and 2 lanes were taken by life guards for private lessons (two 3 year old in their separate lanes and they just holding the wall for the 30 min of their class). That's should be advertised: 1 lane available form 5-7 pm; not the pool open hours. ugh...I bought the swim pass thinking that I would get some extra swims this months and they eliminated Sundays as well. I'm not very happy about it.

3 mile run this morning before the rain starts.
Parent - - By PoopedColt Date 2018-12-05 11:19 AM
Uh. I would be highly annoyed at that. :mutmad: at the pool, not BF doing the decorations. He sounds like a keeper!
Parent - By essel [us] Date 2018-12-05 11:23 AM

Parent - - By Beastie Girl [us] Date 2018-12-05 11:45 AM
Ugh on the pool. Were you still able to get your swim in?

I live on the east coast now but grew up in San Diego. Going up to the mountains to see snow and sled was always a highlight of the winter when I was a kid! I am definitely over the east coast snow though. : pbbt:
Parent - - By essel [us] Date 2018-12-05 11:53 AM
yes, I did. The Malibu kids didn't need the 4th lane. But if next time 6 people show up, we may have a problem

I grew up in Poland and I remember winters with -20 C (-4F), now I'm pretty happy with the CA winters : pbbt:

I hope NJ doesn't represent all of east coast snow! NJ snow is pretty gross, at least in north Jersey. Upstate NY and northern New England snow is pretty awesome, always stuff to do in it. The only part I hate is the whole car cleaning thing, such a PITA.

I didn't know you were from San Diego!

Parent - By essel [us] Date 2018-12-05 2:20 PM

- - By Beastie Girl [us] Date 2018-12-05 11:39 AM
We have already had a snowstorm that shut down the entire state this year, so I'll say our winter weather is going pretty well so far! South Jersey is supposed to get snow this afternoon, and I get to drive through it, yay!

No workout today but I still got up at 5am to pack for SC. The football dinner last night went fine but we got home later than I wanted, and then I had to work until 11. So this morning I packed and got ready for work, and then we schlepped the dog to the kennel and drove to work. As soon as DH got out of the car at work, he realized he didn't have his house keys, so he turned back around and went home. They were lying in the driveway! :shocker!: Glad he went back to check. Hitting the road no later than 5pm to head to northern VA to stop over at my parents' house for the night and to pick up my brother, then on to SC tomorrow!

I am underprepared for the marathon on Saturday. It was supposed to be my goal race for the season but there was too much NRR stuff going on, so I decided to take the pressure off myself for this race. My training suffered, so my goals are to finish upright under my own power and to maintain 10m/m pace for the race. It's supposed to be rainy, windy, and in the 40s for the race, so finishing might end up being the only goal.
Parent - - By Ed [us] Date 2018-12-05 12:12 PM
South (west) Jersey has had "flurries" for the last hour & surfaces that aren't paved, concrete or stone and getting covered with the white stuff.  Should end by 4pm......maybe?????????

Good luck with the travels, and of course your Saturday marathon.  It is in SC I take it?  Finishing upright and alert is always a good thing.  I have a friend who has finished and not known where she was for awhile afterwards!  She is a die-hard marathon person.

Thank you! Yes, it's the Kiawah Island marathon. Scary about your friend! That's actually one of my biggest fears, that I would be so dehydrated or depleted that I am out of it. I always check in with myself every few miles to make sure that isn't happening.

Thank you.  It has been a decade or so.  I really dont belong here, but I need to be somewhere.

"Belonging" is a pretty broad term around here.   Running doesn't seem to be a prerequisite anymore.

That's what I told her!

We have lovely snow here.  In fact, I went xc skiing last night with a couple of colleagues from work.  They are beginner-level classic skiers and I am a beginner-level skate skier so we kept each other company quite well.  In fact it helped me to go out with them because it kept me from going too fast and wearing myself out - instead I got about an hour of steady, long slow distance skiing which was really good for me. :happy::happy:

Rest day today - normally I would go to Pilates at lunch but I have a lunchtime webinar so I'm skipping the class.  I'll be going skiing again tomorrow night - I've already invited my colleagues to join me, so I hope they do!

awesome you have so much of a good snow so early in the season! We are getting dumped in Mammoth! So I'm hopeful for this season! :)

That all sounds really nice!  Good cross training for sure.

 Nice job on the skiing.

I hope your lunchtime webinar was worth missing Pilates for.  I mean, I kinda doubt it, but maybe the webinars you watch/participate in are better than mine.

Sadly, you are correct.  : pbbt:

I swam at noon and lifted after supper.  In between that was work and some dog agility.  Scout has decided that the teeter is not her thing.  It teeters, you know.  That's not safe.  And off she goes at the midpoint.  :meh:  I would understand if we just started working with the obstacle or if she experienced something scary on it, but no, she just stopped doing it correctly.  Because it moves.  Or something.  :wtf:

We got about 9 inches of snow a couple weeks ago.  A white Christmas is possible, but usually we have the dreaded "wintry mix."  Which sounds like something one sprinkles on ice cream.  Or puts in hot chocolate.  But alas, no.

I love that description! I'll have a scoop of chocolate, a scoop of vanilla and um... wintry mix please : pbbt:

Bare ground around here , but rather cold and windy.. We have had a few minor snow falls, but it’s bare ground at the  moment . The serious storms come after Xmas., usually. .
Just back from 3 miles around the hood with a good bud. I really enjoy seeing all the Festivus lights and lawn decorations.

After 44 yrs in the same house , DW and I are downsizing in preparation for a move to a “senior couminity “ . The house is/was comfy; nothing special but in the midst of fantastic neighborhood —great friends , always covering each other’s back , a real Mayberry —I really hate to move .. I think I know how it feels to be told to give up your driver’s license ; one of those turning points in life.
