I mean, I was actually chilly on my run today! What's the weather like where you are today?
What was for dinner last night?
What did you do for a workout?
Parent - - By george [us] Date 2018-10-10 9:08 AM
Warm today; about 70 when I went for a run with some friends at 5:45. Did about 6.5 miles before work. About to go take yoga.
Parent - By redraider0528 (Fashionista) Date 2018-10-10 9:12 AM
Nice! Enjoy yoga!

70s in October just doesn't seem right.
Parent - By brneydrnnr (barney cougar) [us] Date 2018-10-10 9:53 AM
I guess 70 is better than 85, but it's all gross in my opinion. I'm on pins & needles for the 50s they are promising us for later this week

I need to find time for yoga.

Still humid here today and I think tomorrow too, but a front is coming. I will probably freeze this weekend when the fall weather arrives. Hope all in the path of Michael stay safe.

A slow easy 5 miles with the Lady on the blue trail out at the lake last night. Took it easy for the Lady but honestly I seem to struggle on that trail these days due to the more difficult terrain and surface. Ran into some friends out there when I was finishing up. They were just starting their run. I assume they had lights as darkness was approaching.

Not sure of run or rest day today. Probably a run after work, 6 or 7 miles. Maybe try Coventry Woods without the Lady to see if I can push the hills.

Dinner last night was a scrounge meal. Potato hash, with left over smoked sausage, peppers, onions, garlic, tomatoes.
Parent - By brneydrnnr (barney cougar) [us] Date 2018-10-10 9:54 AM
my mom made lots of "hash" when I was growing up. basically whatever leftovers were in the fridge all fried together on the stove. usually turned out pretty well.
we only have leftovers when the boys aren't with us and we just take them for lunches - I never get to make "hash"
Parent - By blazer85 [us] Date 2018-10-10 9:55 AM
Potato hash sounds good.

Not perfect here but not *too* bad. Muggy like XT said for a sweaty 3.5 miles and 12 sets of capitol steps at lunchtime, fueled by grilled cheese sandwiches and stewed tomatoes last night.
Parent - By IB Date 2018-10-10 7:44 PM
It was in the upper 60s or low 70s today.

Mashed potatoes, some sort of vegetarian sausage & kale salad.

6 miles. It was 59 and there's a north wind so burr! I know it's not cold but it's definitely chilly when you've been used to what we've been running in.

I made a Thai coconut chicken soup. It was super simple and my kids loved it and cleaned their bowls.

right! so nice this morning. Benji and I ran 3.25. I actually wore capris and a short sleeved shirt :shocker!: I almost ended my run before it really got started - about 20 seconds in, I stepped right on a branch in the street and rolled my ankle something fierce. It brought me to a dead stop and I thought I was going to have to limp back home - but after moving it around a bit and walking some, the pain went away. It's a little sore now, but I don't plan on kicking any field goals or stomping any grapes for the rest of the day, so I should be okay. : pbbt:

we saw 5 walkers, 4 dogs and 2 runners.

we had bacon & swiss cheese quiche. I think it took 4 or 5 eggs (mrbarney put it together) and then when we checked eggs yesterday, there were 9. :meh: time to start dropping them at the neighbors houses again I think.
Parent - By redraider0528 (Fashionista) Date 2018-10-10 9:09 AM Edited 2018-10-10 9:16 AM
Lucky! My chicks are molting so hardly laying. We only have 3 eggs at the moment.

Glad you didn't get hurt!!
Parent - By Doughboy (spamkiller) Date 2018-10-10 9:12 AM
Glad you didn't get too hurt after stepping on that branch. Yikes. The hazards of early-morning running!
Parent - By Xtreme Taper Date 2018-10-10 9:31 AM
Glad the foot is ok. I always found it best to try running after an ankle roll on the trail. Usually if it's not a severe roll it actually bounces back pretty quickly.
Parent - By blazer85 [us] Date 2018-10-10 9:56 AM
Glad there was no bad stuff with the ankle roll.
Parent - By PoopedColt Date 2018-10-10 10:02 AM

Parent - - By donnasaur [us] Date 2018-10-10 1:49 PM
ooh! You have chickens? So many of my neighbors do.

It is so weird how those ankle turns can hurt so much but after a minute are OK.
Parent - By brneydrnnr (barney cougar) [us] Date 2018-10-10 2:02 PM
we do - right now we have 5 and we'll probably add 2 or 3 more sometime this fall.

it was so weird, I didn't want to have to call mrbarney for a ride home, so I just rubbed some dirt on it and walked it off

Cool but likely a lovely day in the mid 60's (F) coming up...…..ran 12km with Molly doll.

I had two bagels for my meal......I ate a ton of stir fry for lunch so thought I ought to tone it down to a couple of bagels
which were shared with two dogs.

Bagels (and PB) are my staple for lunch. 12km is a longer than usual weekday run, no?
Parent - By Mookiethedog Date 2018-10-10 10:09 AM
Yeah kind of sort of....usually if I run with my buddy during the week we do a 9km but since he wasn't around we tacked on a nice little trail about 1.5km out and back....it wasn't as nice as usual because it was
head lamp sort of light so there wasn't much to see.

Nice mid-week run!
- - By PoopedColt Date 2018-10-10 9:03 AM
Hmm.  I’ll be happy for y’all cuz your weather is always sucky.  But nope, I was still in 100% humidity, 70*. :meh:  My shorts got so soaked that I was constantly pulling them up.  They must weigh 3 pounds.  But, I did manage to run 14-15 miles – probably closer to 15.  First 4 were easy, next 9 were harder in 69 min, and then a hilly c/d until I ran out of time.  The 9 felt faster/harder than it turned out to be time wise, but oh well.  I’m not going backwards.  At a light, some dude yelled something loudly at me that was a bit unnerving. I can’t remember the last time someone yelled at me.  It’s been many, many years. I don’t see many cars at 5am.  After that, I got totally spooked by another car in a subdivision.  Wound up being the paper person.  I recognize a lot of the paper people, but not that one.  Must be new.

I do love the koala clip! I tried to take it down to our LRS to see if the owner would carry it.  But, he wasn’t there.  The girl working doesn’t know me at all and blew me off.  The owner would have listened for sure.  Oh well.  I told another gal who works upstairs, and she was very interested.

Dinner – just canned soup and Jiffy corn muffins. : pbbt:  As the week goes on, our dinners get more simple…

After Michael passes through, our temps are SUPPOSED to get cooler.  I bought some ($75 worth) Halloween candy last night.  It just felt wrong.  Fall needs to come first.
Parent - - By Doughboy (spamkiller) Date 2018-10-10 9:07 AM
I haven't gotten Halloween candy yet, but am tempted ... even though we'll probably get only three trick-or-treaters.

Nice run this morning!
Parent - - By PoopedColt Date 2018-10-10 9:11 AM
Yeah. If you remember, we get over 1000.  There's no ringing the doorbell. We just sit on the porch and hand out to the constant stream of people for 1:30 until our supply runs out. I usually love it, but the older I get... Well the enthusiasm seems to be dwindling
Parent - - By Doughboy (spamkiller) Date 2018-10-10 9:13 AM
I remember! You could go broke on Halloween.

Last year, we took our candy and gave it out at our friends who lived around the corner. (Around the corner, the street is slammed, but no one comes down our street for Halloween.) Our friends sold their house in August and we haven't met the new owners, so probably not going to march up on Oct. 31 to camp on their porch.
Parent - By brneydrnnr (barney cougar) [us] Date 2018-10-10 9:51 AM
maybe you should - good way to make new friends!

We don't get quite that many but we do get a ton.
Parent - - By PoopedColt Date 2018-10-10 10:05 AM
We don't have many safe neighborhoods in town, and then add all the rural county kids, and pretty much everyone else... They all come to my area. I really don't mind. A lot of people do, but I had such great memories of Halloween that I don't mind spending so others kids can have the memories too.

We raided a lot of the in-laws' pantry, as they won't be cooking again. I think she had 6-8 boxes of it! Some were dated 2017. I had been using her outdated stuff, but over the weekend I made a brownie mix that wound up nasty. I've never thrown brownies away, but they were that bad!

When I went out for 7 mi at 6:30 this morning, it was in the upper 60s and super humid. :meh: It looks like this is going to break tomorrow, which is a relief, although it's supposed to rain most of the day. The long-range forecast looks like it's going to get seasonal. :whew:

Dinner last night: Parm-crusted tilapia, a salad, a slice of focaccia, and some braised romano beans with tomatoes (the latter two items were leftovers from tasting at work yesterday, so a total win there). I also made a Brazilian carrot cake last night (interesting technique in which the carrots, fat, sugar, and eggs are pureed in a blender, then combined with flour and leavening).

I saw that carrot cake and was wondering about the texture.

The only vegetables N will eat cooked are rhubarb (in compote, not pie) and carrots in cake.
Parent - By Doughboy (spamkiller) Date 2018-10-10 3:34 PM
The crumb in that cake is really tender and fine, not chunky at all like a regular carrot cake. Here's the recipe. It's also compiled in their new book (Food52 Genius Desserts).

It was 60* for my 9 mile run today, which was lovely. Sadly, I still ran crappy, but whatever.   Will go to boxing class tonight.

Last night, we had chicken breasts and roasted carrots.  I love roasted carrots and have no idea why I don't make them more often.  I will likely prepare them again tonight.
Parent - By PoopedColt Date 2018-10-10 10:09 AM
Lol. At least it was a feel good crappy run? I don't start running better until the frost kills the allergens, so it can be frustrating when it cools and still is crappy...

Why yes it is unusual for me to ruin 9 miles on a Wednesday....thanks for noticing!  Since I typically run 10 on T & TH, Wednesday is an easy or elliptical day.  I had Monday off of work, so my miles are kooky this week.

Weather here: 1C which is about 32-34F.  Sidewalks are icy so I have moved my workouts indoors until we get warmer weather later this week.

Dinner last night: spaghetti sauce from a jar, premade frozen meatballs, spaghetti.  Consumed while watching the seventh inning of the NY-Boston game.

Did my usual Tuesday gym workout after work last night.  I'm going to be participating in a research study this afternoon which involves somehow being in a MRI while doing some exercises - this was all explained to me yesterday but I immediately forgot all the details - and I was told not to do any "strenuous" exercise for 24 hours prior, but "moderate" exercise was okay.  I'm a little fuzzy on the difference between strenuous and moderate exercise, but overall I interpreted the instructions as an excuse to slack on the workout.   So, 8 minutes on the manual treadmill, 20 minutes on the elliptical, and a few strength exercises, then I called it a day.

Nothing in the plans for today - between the MRI this afternoon and having to take DD to biathlon practice this evening (DH usually does this but he's swamped) I don't have time.

Ice?! So hard to believe...

It didn't get below the high 60s here overnight and is now 84 degrees with 9 billion % humidity :cry:   After the remnant rain from Michael comes thru tomorrow, it appears our high temps will be in the low 60s for more than the next week :shocker!:

I taught spin class this morning & had a "baker's dozen" riders...they are starting to come back!  The usual stuff after class and later on I cut my grass and raked up some leaves. Raking leaves with temps in the 80s doesn't make sense!

Last night's dinner was pasts with leftover sauce our DS made & we had on Sunday.  Very good!

Running club meeting tonight.  We have a DPM runner/triathlete coming to talk with us about common running injuries.  This guy spoke at one of our past meetings...when i was new to the club...about 29 years ago :shocker!:

4 miles after noon.

Weather here isn’t as nice as Texas, but it was better than it could have been. We are in the path of Hurricane Michael and had planned to meet the guys to run this’s morning but the first bands of rain were coming through and it was pretty heavy so we bailed. I was hoping to find a small window of opportunity and avoid running on the treadmill and after a noon meeting, the skies were clear so I headed out. I stayed on our route than doesn’t venture much more than a mile away from the Y just in case, but it was sunny almost the whole time. My iPod Shuffle was low on juice and when it died at mile 3 I took that as a sign to finish up the run so I headed back. The legs felt much better today than yesterday so that was good. When the hurricane moves on by, we are supposed to have some lovely weather and I am looking forward to that.

We sang in a concert last night and had to be there by 6:15 to get warmed up so I treated everyone in our family to dinner after. There is cool restaurant close to where we sang that none of had been to so we went there. They do elevated barbecue and it was good, even if it was a little expensive for what you got.

Hurricane Michael looks like another doozy.:meh:  I hope you don't get as much rain as anticipated! I got a dramatic text from Isabella last night, who is not directly in the storm's path but Savannah is affected enough that SCAD closed down yesterday from 5:30 through today (Thursday). She said there was a tornado watch, and she should be ok, but just in case she wanted to tell me she loved me.:hug:  I assured her that those buildings were modern and tough, and a tornado was unlikely there, but... awwww. I wanted to cry.

Yes! It was beautiful this morning for the run! Yay! 5 miles, after that I had to race to PT for my patella issue.

Dinner last night was leftovers. Tuesday is a busy day for us, N has chess club after school then I pick her up and we go straight to her violin lesson. So it is usually a leftover night here. Poor kiddo leaves the house at 6:40 and on tuesday she doesn't get home until after 6. She seems to really love chess though!

Dinner tonight will be a frittata, and tomorrow is butternut squash soup. Since R was going to be away this week I didn't meal plan so am scrambling a little.

Was this morning the Beto run?:shocker!::cool:

Busy schedule for N! My kids never liked that much structure.

Tomorrow is the Beto run.

N doesn't have a choice with the structure, and since she has been in a structured environment her whole life she does OK with it.

Oh, don’t get me wrong, I would have preferred more structure for them, but they rebuffed all my efforts. Before I left full time law practice, they were in daycare or at home with a sitter.

Butternut squash soup. Yum. Next time I make it, I'm going to roast the squash first.

Depressing topic. It's around 80 degrees F and brutally humid, as it's been for most of the summer.:meh: I've decided in light of the sucky weather and my even crappier running lately, I need to change my life goals. I no longer want to qualify for Boston again. Instead, I want to gain 50 lbs. Suddenly life seems a lot easer. I started on my quest by picking up some Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy. I'm just going to pretend that It's August, not October, and that it will get cool out when October really gets here. If I can't beat this whole alternative facts culture, I'm just going to join it! Go me.

No workout, calf still hurts from Sunday. Not that it matters because of the aforementioned change in life goals.

Dinner will be whatever is in the Purple Carrot box.

I'm so sad every year when those Summer Shandys leave the store

When I went in last week, the clerk told me they ran out and don't carry them past August. Then I went today and saw a few six-packs in the back of the fridge, and pounced!

Leinie's Summer Shandy. :swoon:
Parent - - By Spingoddess [us] Date 2018-10-11 6:57 AM
I got berry, and grapefruit. Both good, but the berry was a bit sweet for me.

Try a half-berry, half summer shandy. If you go to the Leinie's tasting room (after you take the tour of the brewery), they will mix brews for you to sample. That's one of them. They call it the pink lemonade.

That sounds amazing!

The Leine's tour is fun. We took it a few years back when we were up in that area for a wedding.

My wife and I sampled a Berry Weiss because that's what all the girls used to drink in college. Holy sh*t is it sweet. It's more like a soda than a beer.

I'm not a fan of shandys but a lot of people are. I can't remember the exact figure but during the tour they said what percent of their sales come from the shandy line. It was something like 70%.:shocker!:

It was raining this morning so I stayed in bed. It was pouring on my way home from work but it blew over once I was home. Went out for a 5.2 mile run. Really nice night. 64* now. It is supposed to be 39* tomorrow morning.

We should trade lives. It's in the sixties here and humid as shit. I would cut my lovely running partner for 39 degrees!: pbbt:

11 miles, starting at 5am.  Wonderful running around the reservoir, disrupting the slumber of the migrating geese, who thought I had no business invading their domain.
