I'm at a 5k this morning that I'm not in the mood for, but a promise is a promise, so here I am.
There is a bike portion of the race for those who choose.
Same park I've run a dozen races but first time on the trails. We have been warned to be ready for wet and muddy conditions. If God had wanted us to run on mud, he wouldn't have invented asphalt.
No t-shirt. I guess that is good in the sense that I don't need one and more money goes to the group it is for.
Course started off with about half a mile of crushed gravel and then went down to the muddy trail. I was following a guy who turned out to be the 3rd overall male. The trail part was lasting a lot longer than I expected. I knew that the finish on the road was a mile and a half so I expected about a mile of mud, but it kept going on and on. We came up off the trail at the 3 mile point. It was a steep uphill off the trail and mentally I was disappointed that I still had a mile and a half to go, so I walked a bit. That let the guy I was following pull ahead of me.
I eventually got myself going again. I started catching the guy in front of me but never quite closed the full gap. So I had to settle for first in my age group. (And probably the only one in my age group. It was a small group in the "5k".)
9:14, 10:13, 10:53, 9:40, 4:01 splits
Despite the mud I had a fun time. At the finish we did get shirts and a bag full of coupons and stuff.

The 5k was 4.46 miles.
I'm glad I brought dry clothes, including socks and shoes. And I brought a hooded sweatshirt. And a large mug of hot green tea. I can relax in comfort while waiting for the awards.
Well you got your money's worth, right?

That's what the race director said.

Good Morning! It's the first 'see your breath' morning of the season. We're in the 30's and thus begins the discussion of when we turn on the furnace....
Boarding the dog, running a few errands, possibly running a few miles, and then we are off to Wisconsin for Oktoberfest.
Just found out that it is National Coffee Day:
Roses are red
My coffee is black
Lift up the mug
And tip it on back
A poet in our midst!
I did enjoy a nice cup this morning.
I made my first cheesecake ever today. Can't wait to see how it tastes.
