If you're racing this weekend or during the coming week, let everyone know about it!

Race name / distance

Parent - - By IB Date 2018-09-21 8:06 PM
Coastal 50K

From Stinson Beach through the Marin Headlands and finishing at Rodeo Beach.

Main goal is to pick up points in the year long Blazer Award ultra category. Up until two days ago I thought I could finish third in my age group, then a guy that is ahead of me in the year long series signed up.

How did it go ?
Parent - - By IB Date 2018-09-28 6:29 AM
I wanted to go out rather easy and start racing late. Of course I didn't do that. Went out too fast and didn't eat enough so I struggled from just before the mid point of the race. Rallied a little near the end and even managed to move up two places in the final two miles. I would have preferred being closer to six hours but can accept 6:24. That put me about middle of the pack & I was 4th in my age group.

I was thinking about 50K runners and couldn't imagine going another 3 hours !

It's gravel, so who knows... 100 miles is not likely

Here's to racking up quite a few miles, perhaps even a hundred of them.

I'm racing !  Well running maybe - not sure about the racing part.

Race name / distance
Fundy Circuit Ultra / 25K

Alma, New Brunswick Canada

Finish top 10.  I'll run hard and see what happens.   Undertrained but will roll the dice and see how it goes :-)   Biggest goal is to have fun running hard in the woods for a few hours

Always good to give it your best shot!

Agreed !  This turned into a great race for me.   I drove to Fundy national park and arrived about an hour before the race started.   It was cold, windy, and rainy.   I think it scared a lot of the registered participants away - 100 were registered and only 67 showed up.   We got called to the starting line and no exaggeration the clouds parted, the sun came out, and it warmed up.   I ditched my coat and ran with a tshirt.  Training was very light heading into the race with my longest run being a road 10 miler.   The course was extremely technical with roots and rocks everywhere.   While the elevation gain wasn't huge it was steep and slippery.
The course was 2 loops so for the first loop I wanted to be mid pack and push the last loop if it was going well.   I felt pretty good for the light training and managed to finish 11/67 and 2/10 in my age group.   I was out there for 3 hours for a 24-25K lol....The course was brutal but I loved it.   I haven't really trained or ran on anything that hilly and technical.  I was hoping for top 10 but it was not to be today.   Post race was free food and a craft beer.   Very nice race - well organized and challenging.  I ran the last half of the race with the first place female who slowed up at the end but just about caught me on the switch backs.   We had a laugh after the race - she got a second wind and probably would have passed me if it was 1K longer - I was done !!!

Nicely done on minimal training! Congrats on placing in your AG!

I see Fundy and think of a race where you are being chased by bible carrying leaflet distributors and baring your thighs is frowned upon.  The race would be a counterpoint to the Hell, Michigan ultra.  Well done btw!

:laugh:  That would help my pace !   Thanks foggy.

I went down to Austin on Friday to "race" the Spa Girl Tri w/ two friends. We opted for the bike/run course because I didn't feel like swimming and the other two don't swim at all. The weather was horrid all night Friday and early Saturday morning - they ended up delaying the start time for an hour and we got a lucky break w/ the rain and lightning finally coming to an end long enough for the race to commence. we finally started at 8:30 after being up since 4:30

so - 10 mile bike on wet chip seal (37:52) and 2 mile run on a golf cart path, fareway and mud (18:37) I ended up 2nd overall. waited about 30 minutes for SR & SP to finish and then we had quiche, cupcakes and mimosas for our post-race goodies.

SR and I went back to Pflugerville to our friend C's house to shower & change and then we were back on the road to Dallas and home by 3:30.

Late entry

Race name / distance: Surly Trail Loppet Half Marathon

Location: Minneapolis, MN

Date: 9/22/2018

Goals: To win.

I didn't win. I haven't specifically trained for this race or for trails in general. Had three guys just sit on my shoulders for about 9-10 miles of the race before they finally passed me. Finished a minute behind. Was kind of annoyed with it during the race, but whatever, but really annoyed at the end with the lack of sportsmanship as only one of them even said anything to me after. A simple shake of the hands or nice job or anything?
Parent - By Beastie Girl [us] Date 2018-09-25 7:17 AM
Nice job on the race! The lack of sportsmanship is perplexing. :wtf:
Parent - By IB Date 2018-09-28 6:24 AM
That blows and seems very unusual in the trail scene.
Parent - By JimGo1 Date 2018-09-28 12:58 PM
That sucks.   I ran a trail race earlier in the summer and followed a guy the whole race.   I was thinking it would really suck if I run by him the last mile.    If I was sharing the leading duties of our little pack maybe but I was just behind the whole time.
