Oh, the agony of defeat, and glory of victory. Probably the best lead in to any sports show ever. Remember that one? So was it defeat, agony, or glory with your latest workout. Stay safe out there.

I had a pretty decent 6 miler on the hilly trails of Coventry Woods last night. Much less stumbling and plodding on the rocky parts of the trail so that was good. A minor victory of sorts. Made the initial ~2 mile ascent up to the ridge (~500 feet) in under 24 minutes. Sure would like to get that back to under 22 but it's a start. Yes, I am weird about tracking times at certain checkpoints on my regular routes. It rained of course, because that's what it does here now in the northeast tropics, but nothing too bad. Heard some thunder in the distance but it never amounted to a storm.

Plan today? Hit the muck for 6 or 7 miles this evening.

Doctor checkup today. All my numbers look good and my weight is down. I've been staying away from ice cream crack. She recommended shingles vaccine. I may get that on my next visit.
Parent - - By Ed [us] Date 2018-09-12 9:59 AM
Apparently late last year they came out with a new shingles vaccine called Shingrix.  I had the prior vaccine in Aug of last year & it's supposed to last for ~5 years.  Thought I saw something about the new one being in short supply and needing to be administered in 2 doses, ~6 months apart.
Parent - By Xtreme Taper Date 2018-09-12 12:44 PM
That's the one she recommended... you get a booster 2 months later. I will probably do it next year.
Parent - By PoopedColt Date 2018-09-12 10:11 AM
That's great about your visit! I want the shingles vaccine.

I do the same thing on my runs re:checkpoints. For awhile I just stopped timing stuff and now if I get too paranoid, I'll run. Around a different block so it'll throw everything off

6 slow miles with some friends this morning. It was dark and made me realize that it's time to invest in a new headlamp. Then I did an hour of yoga at lunch.
Parent - By IB Date 2018-09-12 7:39 PM
I believe it was "the thrill of victory and agony of defeat". For me today was a bit of both. I was shooting to PR on a Strava segment and I'm certain I did but I also know that I did not hit my goal time. That's okay though because I pretty much knew going into it that I wasn't in shape to hit that goal. Add to that the fact that I stopped three times for coins while on the segment and there you have it.

The break from the rains continued pretty much. It sprinkled a bit the last couple miles but otherwise it was a dry 5.5 miles along the river at lunchtime.

p.s. I do remember that great sports lead! Dah dah dahhhhh!

This morning's 5 miles were glorious because I felt great but agony because it was 100% humidity. Ugh. I was so soaked. I only did 3 miles last night, that was agony because my calves were sore and crampy. My right leg was a bit shin splinty too.  Good thing I wore my calf panties!

Tonight I pack for RTB! Aubrey (spingoddess) is picking me up tomorrow at noon to head north. I am super excited!
Parent - - By PoopedColt Date 2018-09-12 10:13 AM
I hear ya on the humidity. But at least you have RTB to look forward to. Say hi to Victor for me:happy:

Just the same old stuff for my workout this morning.  Spin class, then core/hip/shoulder exercises.  I didn't notice any fog on the drive in while it was dark but when class was over, after sunrise...not that the sun was visible...it was just a sea of fog outside :shocker!:

As XT said, we're back to tropical weather   ~76 degrees, dew point of 75 and 90% humidity :cry:  It's not presently raining but venturing outside is like plodding thru moisture.

The only thing stopping my grass from growing like crazy is the lack of sunshine.

Somehow reading about everyone suffering makes me feel better about my morning
Parent - By redraider0528 (Fashionista) Date 2018-09-12 11:07 AM
We're having very similar weather. No sun, just drizzly and gray.

Our grass is a mess.....glad I have nothing to do with it!

4.3 dark miles for me this morning. I wore a long sleeve shirt but regretted it almost immediately.
Parent - By PoopedColt Date 2018-09-12 10:14 AM
Sometimes I'll wear long sleeved t-shirts in lieu of short sleeves because after 5 min I can take it off and tie it around my waist. Short sleeves I either suffer or ditch it on the ground and hope it's still there on the way back
Parent - By redraider0528 (Fashionista) Date 2018-09-12 11:06 AM
I like to wear a long sleeve and take it off mid run! You should've just done that!
Parent - By blazer85 [us] Date 2018-09-12 11:22 AM
47 degrees is my long shirt temperature.
- - By nooner [us] Date 2018-09-12 10:29 AM
9 miles.

More agony as it was once again mid-70’s with 100% humidity. We just try to survive one water stop to the next and not die.

I’m packed and ready to head north for RTB. It looks to be warm up there but I’m hoping for a little less humidity. I changed my flight up to avoid the impact of the hurricane but now it looks like SC is going to be in the middle of the mess on Sunday when I’m headed back home.
Parent - By redraider0528 (Fashionista) Date 2018-09-12 11:05 AM
Yikes. Hope it's not too messy!

I *loved* that intro!!!   Best intro ever.  I saw an interview with that guy not so long ago.

I wouldn't quite call it agony this morning.  My run was not great.  It was mid 70s, 100% humidity, lungs felt like sh!t, legs felt like concrete, was wrapped in a slime blanket that keep oozing down my body, blah blah.  But, it was a solid, bonafide run with hills and everything, so it couldn't be but so bad.  And then... I got to the gym... and got totally pissed off.  There was a sign saying the gym would close at noon today and the reopening date was TBA.  WTF?  The storm has shifted and we aren't going to see much of anything, and if we do, it'll be over the weekend at the earliest?!  Schools aren't even closed and they close for everything.  So, this just pissed me off in a bad way and my workout just stunk. It was a pilates video with resistance bands and not my favorite at all.

But!  I do have the day off, so I did some minor cleaning and then went to hot yoga.  I almost didn't, but I'm so glad I did.  It was what I needed mentally.  Lots of mindfulness of hands, connecting to the earth, how the body feels moving about, and exploring what it can do today.  Exactly what I need and I feel so much better now.  that being said, I"m still a mental case in class (I tore my knee doing yoga)  And I tend to get upset when I can't do simple stuff like child's pose or sit with one leg bent and I have to just fight to let that go...  But then I can do the things like this and even a half decent compass ! (on my good leg side) so whatever.  Be happy with what I can do and forget the rest.

And I had a Sheetz burrito for lunch and am getting ready for a mega nap.  So, life can't be but so bad, right?
Parent - By redraider0528 (Fashionista) Date 2018-09-12 11:09 AM
hot yoga :hug::hug:
and yep, let that go!!

You might surprise yourself with the first. It's more of a core strength pose. Your leg can be draped more over your elbow if need be.
Parent - By brneydrnnr (barney cougar) [us] Date 2018-09-13 9:22 AM
right!? :shocker!:
Parent - - By Xtreme Taper Date 2018-09-12 12:42 PM
Those poses are insane. You are pretty damn limber!!

Do you ever get the sheetz from those burritos?!   : pbbt:
Parent - By PoopedColt Date 2018-09-12 1:40 PM Edited 2018-09-12 1:43 PM
Actually, I'm Not limber most ways. My ankles can't even get into neutral position much less bend any further. And I can't sit on my heel or get close anymore on my left leg. And a deep squat may as well forget that one. Most things that require flexibility I can't do well. A few ways I can. And anything that requires strength, I'm generally decent to good at

Edit and nope... Sheetz don't give me the Sheetz!
- - By blazer85 [us] Date 2018-09-12 11:22 AM
Yep!  I remember watching that with my dad.  Did they show the Wide World of Sports only between football and baseball season?  Or, does it only seem that way to me as my dad would have had the TV tuned to football and/or baseball instead of the show during those seasons?

72ish, nearly 100% humidity and either a misty rain or just air so wet, it seemed like a mist this morning, could have made my run agony, but since I only ran 4.2 at an easy pace, it was fine.  Will go to boxing class tonight.  I fly out to Bismarck tomorrow at noon, so I may be done running until Saturday. We shall see.
Parent - - By Ed [us] Date 2018-09-12 12:07 PM
Wide World of Sports was broadcast primarily on Saturdays (1961 - 1998).  Wouldn't have competed with NFL games before the playoffs but there are those college games on Saturdays.  In its early days, there were zero and then very few cable channels so not the wide availability of sports programming we have today.
Parent - - By blazer85 [us] Date 2018-09-12 12:41 PM
My parents didn't have cable until the 90's, so my entire life until I moved out, I lived "in the olden days".  And at my house, there was only one channel.......the channel my dad wanted to watch!
Parent - - By PoopedColt Date 2018-09-12 1:44 PM
Lol. Mine wouldn't spring for it either until we moved out!
Parent - By Ed [us] Date 2018-09-12 2:17 PM
Cable wasn't available in my hometown until after I moved/got married & bought my own house in a different part of the state. Then it was about 12 months later until they began wiring our township and our side of town/neighborhood was about the last one in.
Parent - - By PuddleThumper Date 2018-09-12 12:19 PM
what's the forecast for Bismarck?
Parent - By blazer85 [us] Date 2018-09-12 12:43 PM
With the exception that every 12 hours, they switch from rain to no rain, it should be perfect.......mid-50s to mid-70s over the day.

1.5 trail miles this morning.

Yes, I remember that show - loved it! But I think the phrase was “The thrill of victory...”

i loved the Wild World of Sports. I remember seeing an interview with that ski jumper. it would be strange to be so famous for that. :shocker!:

I reveled in the glory of a rest day and slept in this morning.

It's been 10 years since I did RTB relay with the WIMPS. I'm still so glad I did that for a couple years. Hope everyone has a great time!

and i've not been following too closely what's happening with Florence but it just sounds so scary. we have friends who live in a beach community jsut south of charleston. he's a pharmacist and was not quite released from his job so they were unsure what they were doing as of yesterday. :shocker!:

Happy Wednesday,

I remember that well - the ski crash !   I had a 4 mile run today after the gym workout.   Lately my running seems to be going backwards ?  I felt really strong a few weeks ago but lately its a bit of slog out there.   Figures that I have a race coming up    For some reason, I seem to always run crappy this time of year but once cold weather kicks in things improve running wise.
