I could use one now.

#1: At BJ's yesterday, I had a coupon for $10 off $200, and somehow my purchases didn't add up to $200 (I really tried!), so I gave the coupon to the lady behind me in line. She was there with her 2 kids who were "helping", and she seemed a bit frazzled. She was SO APPRECIATIVE and thanked me profusely. It made me feel good to make someone else feel good.

#2: Also at BJ's, I got 2 boxes of cat litter for like $3.50 each. $8.50 regular price each with 2 $5 coupons.

What's not to love about BJ's and cat litter?

What's it cost for a yearly membership at BJ's?  Just wondering.
Parent - - By Beastie Girl [us] Date 2018-09-05 7:35 AM
It's like $50 for the basic membership.
Parent - - By The Beard (is wearing Arm Panties) [us] Date 2018-09-05 10:38 AM
What will $100 get me?
Parent - By NotSoFast [ca] Date 2018-09-05 6:20 PM
2 bj's
Parent - - By noquitter [us] Date 2018-09-08 7:55 PM
My husband came home with a handful of coupons from a local grocer for $5 off $50. Easy to spend $50. Hard to spend $50 when I have the coupon. When I have the coupon for some reason, I spend $49.95. : pbbt:
Parent - - By tizzy319 (gaping five hole) [us] Date 2018-09-10 8:50 AM
:laugh:  Same thing happens to me.  I can never simply have it all add up right....so in those situations, I make sure I go over enough with things like laundry detergent or paper towels.  But it kinda depletes the purpose of saving $5.
Parent - By noquitter [us] Date 2018-09-10 8:57 AM
exactly.:meh:

so yesterday we got a letter in the mail from my older kid's school.  It was a survey he took two years earlier (in 8th grade) from his "choices and challenges" class, which is a class that teaches them about alcohol and drug abuse and stds, etc.  It was written by him to his "future self" so it gets mailed out now.   He let us read it and there were some real gems in there :laugh:

One of the questions asked was: What does being safe with alcohol mean to you?"

His answer:   "It means not getting blackout drunk and then puking in my Ferrari"

:laugh::cry::laugh:

Parent - - By N70SAK Date 2018-09-05 5:23 PM
They need a whole class for that? That was like 6th grade health for me and in general, kids are exposed to these things way before 8th grade. :\
Parent - By gadget girl Date 2018-09-06 11:21 AM
in most schools, they have ongoing classes of this type in middle school and high school.  this way the school can give them the "party line" on drugs, alcohol, and sex, rather than have them learn these things from colleagues and other bad influences.

Just had to lol at your 3rd item. My co-workers (who do the painting) would not agree! Painting on hot asphalt in traffic in 100-110* heat index weather just isn’t one of those nice little things in life. but I do get what you mean

Gonna brag on G for a moment....we were in Philly over Labor Day visiting the in laws and I took him downtown to go to the market (he likes riding the trolley / subways ) and on the street as we were walking he found 2 quarters and other change and he turned around and saw a homeless guy in a wheelchair and walked over and gave it to him. This is a kid that LOVES finding money and keeps asking when he can get a job (he's 11 ) so for him to hand over money voluntarily is a huge thing. The guy was really sweet he told G "finders keepers" and G looks and me and I just kind of did the mom eye-push thing to him and G said nope it's for you. Good kid!:hug::hug:

Then later on he got to see his first Philly fist fight but that's another story.....
Parent - By PoopedColt Date 2018-09-05 6:07 AM

That is huge that he is willing to give up his "finder's keepers" money :hug:

My friend's 11 yr old has a running "account" with his dad....everytime he does something...some "money" goes into the account - with was about 1100 dollars last time I checked. Apparently it jumps by 25, 50, 100 dollars whenever - my friend aint worried because the kid is never going to see that money

My 8 yr old has already gone money crazy. We were driving back from Austin I told him I would pull over to buy him chocolate milk. He asked how much longer to home....it was about an hour and he is like "I can wait". When I told him I was stopping anyway...he said he would take plain milk. Why? Chocolate milk costs double and more junk calories

:laugh::hug:

We were at a restaurant a while ago and he was going to order a cheeseburger and he asks the waitress "does cheese cost extra?"

I laughed at the time and it's become a bit of a running gag but....I did tell him there is NOTHING WRONG with asking about the full cost of something if he doesn't understand. And if the person can't or won't detail it out for him then cancel the transaction.

Sweet. Now let's bad mouth renters and really light this place up!
Parent - - By BrookieCookie (Canadian Beaver) Date 2018-09-05 12:43 PM
Our small 2 bedroom apartment in a so-so neighbourhood (which I personally love but is relatively meh by many standards) was rented to us last May for $1785. Once we gave notice I saw it listed for $2,220! Neither price includes electricity or parking (another 200ish a month)... Renting in Toronto is bullshit.
Parent - - By callie [ca] Date 2018-09-05 1:53 PM
That’s like 3x my mortgage

:shocker!: mortgage payments are fun :) wait till you get tempted for a lower monthly payment and then you realize you are back to 25 years :meh:
Parent - - By BrookieCookie (Canadian Beaver) Date 2018-09-06 6:26 AM
We considered a 30 year but our current payments are the exact same as our rent so I think we are going to stick : pbbt:
Parent - - By mutiger [us] Date 2018-09-06 1:40 PM
In the house that we currently live in, I started with a 15 yr mortgage, and then one day I said F it and switched to 30 yr
Parent - By old turtle Date 2018-09-09 4:09 PM
We went for the paying it off early option. House payments stopped when school payments started - more or less.
Parent - - By NotSoFast [ca] Date 2018-09-05 6:25 PM
If you can afford to send extra each month it will pay your principle down much faster. We've been doing that for past 11 years and our 30 year mortgage now only has 7 more years on it. If we hadn't had our son's issue to deal with for 2 years it would have been down even lower (we just punted during that time).
Parent - By BrookieCookie (Canadian Beaver) Date 2018-09-06 6:24 AM
We will be able to put a little on the principal each year most likely. My mom left me some money that pays me every year and a financial advisor to go with it. Toronto is really expensive we could never have afforded this otherwise. :hug:
Parent - - By old turtle Date 2018-09-09 4:08 PM
Congrats! Are y'all all moved in and everything?
Parent - - By BrookieCookie (Canadian Beaver) Date 2018-09-09 5:03 PM
Not until September 28 we are doing renovations and painting first.
Parent - By old turtle Date 2018-09-09 6:56 PM
Smart move. We did renovations after we moved - nothing huge but annoying just the same.
