If you're racing this weekend or during the coming week, let everyone know about it!

Race name / distance

Finally yes!

Mt. Spokane Vertical Run 25K

Mead, WA, a bit northeast of Spokane

Goals: 1) finish upright 2) don't fall down. That's about it. There's a 50K associated with it that has an 8.5 hour cutoff, I considered that but decided I would rather do a 25K when I'm not worrying about the time than a 50K constantly looking at my watch and doing the math. I am too heavy and too out of shape to think I can do a tough 50K in 8.5 hours.

Fine goals & I hope you achieve them. While you're at it, I hope you also have fun.

And another one!

Crater Lake Rim Run, Saturday.

Going for the full though I am not confident I'm going to make the time cutoffs. But I can hope.

Hot, smoky, high elevation, long uphills. Sounds like fun, doesn't it?

A strange idea of fun for sure. GOOD LUCK!

WooHoo that SHOULD be fun! Well except for the heat, thin air and smoke. But go for it and have fun!

DNF. I got to 16 miles in 4 hours, was on track for a 6:30-7 finish, and the race's permit said runners should be finished in 5 1/2 hours. While I could have run/walked the last 10 miles I know I would not have made the time. Since it's in a national park and permits for events in those are very hard to come by, I didn't want to put their permit in jeopardy for future years. Smoke was awful and my chest hurt. So made the decision to call it quits. Sometimes what you can do and what you should do are different things.

Dammit. I wanted Oregon. Now looking at Newport which is flat and sea level. I'll get there.

You'd think that the state bordering the one in which you live would be easy to get.

Not when your home state is 900 miles base to tip and you live 700 miles from the northern border, and most of the neighboring state's population is in the northwest corner of that state.

Holston River Endurance Challenge - 36-hr edition

Bristol, TN, about a mile from Bristol Motor Speedway

8/4- 8/5

Goal - 125 miles, but everything will have to go just right for this to happen.

I've got three friends from Indiana joining me.  I hope they enjoy the people and the race as much as I think they will.

Since you recycled this one I won't start a new one this week.

I'd be willing to bet you'll make it to 125. Have fun but stay focused.
