Nice weekday miles Beard. I suspect you crushed a lot of us today.
A bit of a funk here lately, a rut perhaps but I am snapping out of it. I think part of it is not running with the Lady. I have her on hiatus from running until cooler weather arrives. So I feel a bit "selfish" going out in the evenings and running by myself.
Anyways, 7 last night on the hills of Coventry Woods. Warm again, but normal summer warm around 88-90 and I must be acclimating. Actually the coolness of the woods was quite noticeable as my route started in a sunny meadow then popped in the woods after a few hundred yards and it felt like the AC had been turned on. Run last night was fairly decent, 76 minutes for the loop (900 feet elevation gain), felt pretty good overall. Bugs are starting to let up too.
Oh, and I picked up a steal on a pair of Innov8 Roclites for $49 at the LRS yesterday. Went in to get a new pair of Altra Timps but he had to order them, but found these on the discount table. Too cheap to pass up, and I've ran in these before. Always good to mix it up. I tried them out last night. These are good for rocky trails. Lug city.
Plan is 6 miles or so tonight up on the local trail.
How's the Lady doing? Any more vertigo?
No, she is fine, but I know in the heat she will just get out there and lollygag around. Just walks for her until we get the cooler weather.

Nice snag on the Roclites!
Those and my old Terrocs are my primary trail shoes nowadays and both are great on rocks because of the many short lugs.

eta oh, and I find those many shallow lugs to be great on pavement, sheet rock and hard dirt too as I'm sure you know.
I have one dog that loves to be outside (I have to pay attention and not let her stay out too long) and another that sits by the portable air conditioner in my office. In spite of this, dogs don't know their limits like people do and even people are at risk when the temperatures climb. She sounds like a great running partner. Maybe just take her for a short walk so you can spend some quality time together?

Sounds really nice despite the humidity.
Here it was a gorgeous low-humidity day. Unfortunately, we had a summer bbq potluck luncheon for our agency so I had to settle for a quick 3 miles along the river so I wouldn't miss the eats.
5.3 miles in a light drizzle. Muggy as sh!t but there was a pretty rainbow.
Just an update on my kiddo. Some of you may know a bit from facebook... he was diagnosed with Sever's Disease right before we left on our trip. It's very common in active boys but it basically made him immobile. Our trip was totally different because carrying around a 59 lb boy ain't easy. Anyhow, he also had some sort of freaky infection. They suspected a bone infection but after getting an MRI they ruled that out. He's now pretty much recovered from the infection - no more fevers, etc. He had his first PT appointment today and the PT thinks that he started with the Sever's and then with overuse and overcompensation his problem now is with his achilles. Ugh, so much for an 8 year old! He has him on a stretch/ice routine basically just trying to get his foot to 90 degrees so he can walk again. Needless to say, I've been a bit stressed.
Rainbows are a nice benefit to a muggy drizzly run.
I hope for healing for your son. That sounds painful for you both.

That sounds super tough on all of you. Is this something he can completely recover from?
I think so.. I certainly hope it doesn't cause him a lifetime of annoyances though!!

we took the dogs for a walk last night - it was so gross out, but they were so happy.
I did not know that about your kiddo. Very tough for an 8 year old. I am sorry, and I hope it's something that does not take too long for recovery.

I ran 2 (and did my weights) Monday early. We celebrated my parents 60 anniversary at a nice restaurant. DD and her cousins were able to be there. I got a spray tan and a pedicure. Good times!
Tuesday I slogged out 4 in my neighborhood.
Wednesday I managed 3.5 with the Weds. night group in the oppressive almost 100 degree heat. Thank goodness it was only 3.5 but a decent run.
Today I SDO.
Our local chapter of a larger metro wide running group has broken off and started it's own group. Not sure how it's going to work out, but the big group removed our leader's admin privilege on the local group Facebook page. When she questioned them on it, they were very evasive and declined to put her back on. I have not heard the larger group's board members' version of the story, but the leader of our local group is a good friend of mine so I really don't have a choice but to go with the new group. I plan to maintain my membership in the larger group, but do most of my running with the (new) local group. I liked it the way it was, but it sounds like things have changed.
It's just running people!!!!

Only 57° this morning, but 100% humidity. My first run since the 48-hour last weekend. 4 miles w/ scattered mini-breaks.

We cut short our usual 10km route due to a cute as a button little black bear.....our out and back was likely 8km but I'll clock it later. Molly and me!

I used to run in an area with bears. The babies are cute but yes, Momma is always close!

swam 800 meters last night, surprised that I still knew how to do it - and OMG...it's so hard
but I'll keep it up since
SDO from running - went to the gym again w/ mrbarney and did legs. didn't get home early enough to bike to work, so no cardio yet. swim meet tonight and we don't usually get done until almost 10pm. ugh.
When was the last time you swam? 800 meters is far if you've taken some time off.
I've been swimming for just over a month now and I'm only coming up on 750 yards as my long swim.

I think it's been about 2 years - it certainly felt like it
it was a 200 meter warm up, 16x25s and then a 200 meter cool down.
it took me like 25 minutes to get it all done, so I'm sure not fast at all.

I have no trouble swimming... dog paddle style, or in a floatie with a beer. Oh, wait. Real swimming. I tried that for a few months. Got sick of the pool, did not kick well, and was surprised how long it took to go half a mile!
5.04 miles this morning. This run sucked less than most of my recent runs, yay! I tried the new shoes again but I tied them tighter, thinking that perhaps the issue was my orthotics moving around and making my feet hurt. I didn't have pain, but the toes on my right foot were numb most of the time. Is that better?
750 yards in the pool tonight.
10 miles on the bike last night. Bad idea to hit the bike path right after work on a nice day. Too many assholes out who weren't paying attention.
The worst was this one guy who was walking toward me, made eye contact with me, and still let his dog cross right in front of me so that the leash crossed my entire path and I had to slow down drastically and almost stop.
It's a good thing I was leading because DH does not have my patience and probably would have hit a few people just out of spite.
So I think I'm over that fatigue from the past few weeks or so since my runs are feeling better and I have more energy during the day. I am back to having insomnia instead of sleeping really hard too so that's back to normal too.
I'm glad your runs are improving! I thought of you today because even though I was moving along pretty quickly, my legs just felt DEAD!
Was the dog on a flexi-lead? Those are the work of Satan.
I hope you get the shoe thing figured out. I have actually worn a few different shoes my last few pairs. Very daring since I was in Brooks Adrenalines for years. It's stuff like this that makes people want to buy up lots of pairs of the same shoe in the same model rather than advance to the new improved version.

Nice job Beard - Your running has really cranked up a notch the last few months !
I'm going to the gym for a bit to do some light weights. I managed to sneak a trail run in during the kid's soccer last night. Charlotte is quite the little spitfire on the soccer field lately. I might get a run in later on.

For sure - I just tried to work anything not sore so it was basically core and some body weight exercises.
Slow and steady - the strength will come back.
I covered the 9:30am spin class for an instructor who is on vacation this week. Had a reasonable turnout of 15 women. We'll see how many riders I get for 6pm class tonight
Did some core (incl. a 2 min plank), hip & shoulder exercises after class.
Nice to get a good turnout. I saw your reply the other day about the declining enrolment. It does become a vicious cycle - a fitness place doesn't get as much business, so they don't upgrade their equipment, so people don't come as much because the equipment's old, and so on...

I have a piriformis issue (I think) that is not getting better (more than a month now) and I think I've got to move on from Dr. Google to someone slightly more qualified.

1:07 run. Wasn't supposed to be that far. Ran down some paved trails through linear parks and found myself at the reservoir much faster. Had to run all the way to the water for a pic.
then on the way back I apparently took a different spur and was off course. Used the phone to get me home just fine, but it took a few minutes longer than expected. Too many trails! And sidewalks everywhere?! WTF is this crazy place?!
Hiked 4 awesome miles in rocky mtn park yesterday. Picture postcard perfect wherever you looked. Then decided to visit Cheyenne so the kids could say they were in WY. Not as impressive.
but we had fun taking pics in odd spots saying we are probably the only people from our city who ever took pics there. Road tripping anywhere is super fun for me. Today, we just took a tour of the Broncos stadium. So cool, even if not a broncos fan. DS2 was a huge one a few years ago. Not as much now, but as I said. It was neat. Now it's DHs turn for fun. He's in some vintage arcade. I'm in the parking lot.

My workout yesterday was speedwork (which auto-correct always wants to change to spadework
) on the TM: alternating between a minute walking and a minute running, starting at 5.0 and then working up in 0.1 increments to 6.0. I know that for the rest of you this is laughably slow, but, for me, this is speedwork. I was pleased by the fact that I feel like I'm getting fitter.
Today before work I did 20 minutes of very slow running on the TM, and some weights. Would have been more weights but I lolly-gagged getting out of bed and didn't have time for much.

30 minute swim this morning followed by an afternoon session of mild lifting and 20 minutes on the ET.
This evening I am taking the lad to tae kwon do. I'll sit in the car and read.
