Let's assume I might be in the market for an electric or hybrid car.
What are currently some of the best options in the < 40,000$ range :wtf:

I'd like a hybrid that doesn't look fugly like a Prius or something.

Used BWM i3?
Parent - - By Tommeke Date 2018-07-11 12:58 PM
i3 is an option but i'd rather have an hybrid than full electric.
I drive around 70 miles a day.

miles?   lol
Parent - - By Tommeke Date 2018-07-11 1:14 PM

Parent - - By Tommeke Date 2018-07-11 5:27 PM
looks like we'll meet again in the totally useless match for 3rd place
At least that game will probably be more attractive than the finals.

2019 Insight is #BOSS
Parent - By Tommeke Date 2018-07-11 5:28 PM
I have the impression we don't have Insights in Europe. Maybe they are only on the US market?
Can't find it on the Belgian Honda website.
Parent - By Tommeke Date 2018-07-12 4:18 AM
okay, so they currently don't have it, but I see older Insights from 2014 on the used market.
Will have to wait a bit for the new Insight to hit the market here, I guess.
It looks pretty slick
Parent - By Tommeke Date 2018-07-14 4:25 PM
I don't think they will launch the 2019 insight here but will use the same engine in the civic and cr-v

The new Prius's look better and drive better than the originals.  The gas mileage is pretty nuts too.

If you haven't been in a new model Prius, you should at least check it out.  You can also get the plug-in Prius (Prius Prime) which gives you about 25 miles of battery range.  Charge at home and at work, and you'll use almost no gas. If you have charging at work it's probably free.

You should at least take one out for a test drive.  It meets your budget and is a well built car, even if you think it's fugly.

Well the aesthetics came a long way since it's inception but it still has that funky boxy tail.
The interior looks sharp though.

The third generation Prius liked good in my opinion. I’ve gotten used to the new one but, man, that rear end is ugly. (hee hee).

I do like the futuristic interior of the new one, especially upper trims that have the big, almost Tesla like, touchscreen.

I just don't like the MPG numbers. it hardly beats my 2016 Peugeot Diesel 1.6 (if at all).
As Tahoe says, if you drive mainly locally you could go electric, but I mainly do longer distances.

Hybrids make more sense in the US where high mileage diesel options are non existent.
Parent - By Tommeke Date 2018-07-18 9:58 AM
They're starting to tax the crap out of Diesel here (they already taxed the crap out of it, but now are taxing it even more and more), so in the long run Diesel for cars is no longer an option.
Used market is already in pretty bad shape for diesels, as more and more cities start to ban them (depending on the Euro norm of the car, but it's only getting tougher).

my wife just bought a PHEV BMW X5 wDrive...but it costs twice your budget :meh::roll::cry:
Parent - By Tommeke Date 2018-07-11 5:26 PM
it's a company car so I'm bound by budget, not that I would spend that much personally anyway
