Up Topic General / Letters and Opinions / Gift ideas for 17 yr old girls
- - By mutiger [us] Date 2018-07-11 7:29 AM
I  need to buy gifts for 17 yr old girls whose birthday is coming up. They were raised in Mumbai/Bombay, India...and from a fairly affluent family. I dont know the girls much....but the dad is my buddy from about 25 yrs ago and I was at their parent's wedding in a best man sort of way (there was no formal best man in India). What are some good ideas for the girls? I'm going to be in India...plan to buy on Amazon prime and gift them in person.

That's tough. A gift card would be simple. : pbbt:

What about a classic piece of jewelry? A necklace?

Make sure it is 22ct gold though.
I heard a story from a Taiwanese woman who is married to an Indian guy (both affluent as well, living in North-America) and his family came over to visit.
So she bought some jewelry as well, but it was like 14ct (or 18ct) gold.
Afterwards her husband told her they were complaining to the family back in India that they were given lesser quality gold

So those things are tricky, they know their Gold

yeah...no gold for sure!
Parent - By mutiger [us] Date 2018-07-11 9:12 AM
hmm....I'll either have to buy an amazon gift card, or one for a store in India

A personally autographed photo of myself would be a real unique gift idea ….and affordable at $19.99 + S&H
Parent - - By mutiger [us] Date 2018-07-11 9:12 AM
free 2 day shipping?
Parent - By Mookiethedog Date 2018-07-11 11:04 AM
The free 2 day shipping option costs $29.99 for the photo.

I know your people are real gold bugs so this is a much more affordable way to go

What's the handling part entail?
Parent - - By Mookiethedog Date 2018-07-13 2:02 PM
The envelope...the reinforced piece of cardboard....walking it to a post office......buying myself a pint....etc:hug:
Parent - - By neustkg (Important) Date 2018-07-17 6:15 AM

Clothes from Brandy Melville.  Don't know their size?  It's no problem, Brandy Melville only sells one size.

Tech hardware, or paywall media subscription? You know better than me what is out there but it still might take some research to see what would be cool for a 17yo.

Crotchless panties, or perhaps edible undies.

money or gift card  thats pretty much all they want unless they specifically want something and you know about it.

Call me crazy, but you might be more qualified to understand what a teenager from Mumbai would like.  : pbbt::hug:

I doubt that even my wife does not have a clue

call Time Warner cable during non-business hours.  You will probably get someone knowledgeable from Mumbai who can help.  : pbbt:

I googled things and it may sound like a stereotype but unless the internet is lying to me this young lady would just love an assortment of various teas!

sos...no jewelry...they are Indian and live in Mumbai and hang out with high society  No clothes because I dont want to deal with teenage girls' sizes :meh: Purses and sunglasses...too many choices, too many damn colors, they will want brand names and you get knock offs in bombay for a fraction of the price you pay here.

Also, I was running out of shipping time since we leave tomorrow.

So I ended up buying at Macy's online (and pick up at store) - Michael Kors fragrance gift set, Kate spade watch = together $125. (good for both of them and they can both use either) I have not told mrs mut yet :shocker!:

I give my dh's nieces and nephews cash money for birthdays and holidays. I feel like teenagers want money more than they want me picking out something for them. Is that an option?
Parent - - By mutiger [us] Date 2018-07-13 8:55 AM
I think their parents give them plenty of cash....for them its more of a cool thing to show off to their friends and say my Dad's friend from the USA brought us this stuff.
Parent - By BrookieCookie (Canadian Beaver) Date 2018-07-13 8:56 AM
I see well I'm sure she'll like what you got her!
Parent - By insistor (needs a bigger dick) Date 2018-07-13 1:44 PM
They probably would rather have that on Venmo than in cash : pbbt:
