4.3 hot and humid miles for me. Ran by the carnival and area where the fireworks will be shot from tonight. I also found a nice wooden Adirondack chair with a “free” sign on it. After my run I went back and got it. Tightened a few screws and it’s like new.
In conclusion, FREEDOM.
Awesome score on the chair!
I'm glad that chair worked out for you. I found a box of books with" free" on them one time and they were worth having. Free does not always mean worthless.

6.1 miles - 3.0 miles of warmup (36¢ / 3 coins) & 3.1 miles of 'racing'.
Crappy day, just barely met my goal of sub 21 by running 20:54 which landed me in 6th place in the 50-59 age group & 85th out of 920 people with finishing times (there were quite a few walkers). I didn't run much slower last year when this race was nine days after Western States. Can't believe I'm beating myself up over a 5K.
Congrats on the race!
I would love a sub21 5k right now! I think you did well, and I always found I had to focus for a few weeks beforehand (intervals) to run a decent 5k. I totally the self analysis. I do that almost every time.
1 quarter, 1 dime, 1 penny (too easy)
Oh I've beaten myself aplenty over a whopping 30 seconds in a 5K
I'm sorry you didn't get the result you were hoping for. 5Ks are rough

ONE QUARTER, ONE DIME AND A PENNY!
nice job in the race.
5ks are awesome...the first 2k
the last 3k are the suck.
I'm actually thinking of running a bit faster and shorter distances too
Especially now the heat really gets to me after 30 minutes of running (doesn't matter if I run fast or run slow), might as well run hard for 30 minutes.
Big day for me. I ran a race for the first time in almost 4 years. I have a love/hate relationship with racing and it definitely more hate than love. I love to train and want to race, but... (Insert a million excuses) anyhow I chose a 5 miler 1:30 out of town. Not sure what to expect. I only run 3-4xweek and half indoors in AC on a TM. Those runs have been awesome. Outdoors in muck? Notsomuch.
Negatives - Heat index was 90* and you could cut the air with a knife
the conditions were rough. I felt I was running in quicksand after about 10 min. I also had this great idea to have a Spotify playlist to keep my pyscho self from getting too negative. It was great for a mile. Then it died
I fiddled with it for half a mile and gave up. I later guessed we lost cell service on the island.
Wins - I showed up and didn't chicken out. This is huge! And while the second half was slower, I passed one dude and didn't get passed at all. That is huge! I almost caught the girl in front of me until she sprinted at the end. So I wound up 3rd overall lady (behind 2 twenty something's) in 35 min out of 200 people. Found out the gal in almost caught usually wins these things and is a 19 min 5ker and won last year in 32. It was brutal out there.
And a bonus. I took a pic of a kids science/play center we used to frequent and sent it to my family. Got a reply from DS1 "you're in L? So am I!" He was bored at school/work and drove down for breakfast/food. So he came by and picked me up. I got him gas and gave him $20 for food. (sucker!)

Excellent job. That’s a speedy five mile in nice weather. In the conditions that you faced it’s really impressive. Congrats.
I'm probably happier now that I see I was 18th/222 male&female - only one of the 17 ahead of me was older. And he was only 3 years older and a local legend. Mostly young whippersnappers. (easing back into my rocking chair)

That is speedy
Good for you on the race! Glad you got to hang out with DS1. That's is a bonus!
Thanks! It was a nice surprise
Welcome back to racing speedy!
And very sweet that you got to see your kid too.
Except now I'm $50 poorer. I was telling a colleague with younger kids how it definitely doesn't get cheaper as they get older.
Great work on the race!! Lots of wins there.
I taught spin class this morning..abbreviated holiday schedule & no one else wanted to teach the one cycling class on the schedule so I took it. Had a "baker's dozen" riding so just over half full
Almost 90 degrees here before noon
This weather blows!
9km with Molly her friends and my friend
Very jealous about the chair....I have one of those but it's that hard plastic shite. Nothing better than getting wood!
Getting used to this post vs reply mess. I couldn't figure out what you were talking about re: the chair
Wanna see my version of wood?
I am not going to click on any link you post related to question
I was just going to say you can sit on it but that isn't going to help

3.5 miles for me today. Hot as fuck here.
I feel your pain
July running is hard to warm up to.
4.5 awesome FE miles for me along the Venice Beach boardwalk with the beautiful and awesome redraider.
We instantly hit it off and had a great run (she was kind enough to run at my grandma's pace : pbbt:). She got to see first hand the crazy jungle that I call home.
I'm jealous of both of you! Glad you two got together.
It was so great to meet you!
appreciate you coming to me and then letting me talk your ear off!
We had so much ch fun in the crazy jungle yesterday!
Nice FE run... yes, I've been on the boardwalk many times. I suspect it's crazier now than in the mid to late 80's!
yes it is.
thanks, everyone!! If any of you venture anywhere within a 4 mile perimeter of my house, I am happy to meet you.
Back from a heated 4th of July race. It was hot. How hot was it? Well... I had one of my worst times for this race ever and won my AG. I find this amazing since I have had much better efforts at this race and never even had above 4th in my AG. Super pleased because I didn't go out too fast, didn't walk and didn't barf. All good things.
I also beat all of the people I was secretly hoping would not beat me too badly.
That's a plus.
Afterward, I met a friend for a manicure and a pedicure.
Now back to trying to cope with two hysterical dogs whose patriotism does not extend to fireworks on the 4th.
"didn't barf" - excellent! Congrats on the age group win. (And beating the people you didn't want to beat you too badly.)
Always a fear in the back of my mind on days like today.
Ha! Sounds like we had similar days. Way to hang tough
Congrats on the AG win!
And on meeting all of the rest of your goals, especially the not barfing one!
Yay.. AG winner! I hear you on the dogs. THe Lady is the same way.
8.3 miles on the greenway along the Neuse River. To say there were a lot of people out on the 4th is an understatement but thanks to the long distance and various activities it wasn't too crowded. (kayaks, fishermen, people walking, cyclists, runners)
At least you had a lot to look at.
Glad it was a good run
you probably saw more people out there than I see in a year!
This is better. Keep working on improving your dailies.
Paddleboarding, followed by kayaking. During my kayak segment I stopped at a launch ramp by the lighthouse to chat with a group of 5 guys who were getting ready to launch. They were heading out for a 12-mile day trip out and around an island in the bay.
Then a BBQ with the parents of 3 other girls who are the same age as and friends with my older daughter. It was fun but a little off-target for a few reasons: (a) Three couples + me = awkward; (b) The other 3 girls each have one older sibling and no younger siblings. So the other parents are all about to be empty-nesters, planning out vacations, etc. Meanwhile I've got 2 more teens who will be with me for another 5 years, and I'm probably jumping in as a future stepdad to 2 kids who are currently 3 and 5; and (c) I was the youngest of the adults by several years.
I have found every stage of life (except for adolescence
) has something good to offer. I'm sure they are envying you that you still have your kids at home and so much ahead of you to some degree. Of course, being an empty nester isn't too bad either. Still that probably doesn't help you if you are trying to keep the conversation going.
No miles today due to heat and humidity; this old bod just can’t take those conditions . Instead, all afternoon at the lake to swim
Later .watched our local Double A team route the visitors, followed by a great fireworks show . A full and happy day .
Nice.. proper way to deal with a hot summer day.
