Race name / distance: Titletown Ultra 6 hour / however far I run

Location Green Bay

Date 6/30 5:10am-11:10am

Goals The race is a 4.75 mile loop around the UW-Green Bay Arbortetum. I was initially thinking that I might get in 7+ laps (33.25+ miles) but I'm readjusting those goals as I look at the forecast - 79* at 5am climbing to 92* at 11am. That's bewildering even before you factor in humidity. 6 laps and a bit extra to an aid station (31.1 miles) seems more realistic if things go well.  Honestly, anything over a marathon and finishing feeling reasonably good will be fine with me. I'm really hoping for a cool breeze off the bay. I've packed a lot of Endurolytes and my cooling kerchief, which WILL be deployed.:laugh:

That is a crazy weather forecast.

Sounds fun!?

Be sure to carry a handheld bottle in those temps. Good luck, under an hour a loop is good goal.
Parent - - By The Beard (is wearing Arm Panties) [us] Date 2018-06-29 7:50 AM
The race doesn't have cups at aid stations so I was planning on having a hip pack with a bottle anyway.

One lap per hour equals a bit slower than 12:30 pace. Even in the heat, that seems doable. I plan on taking walk breaks to avoid overheating. I'm a pretty fast walker so hopefully that won't impact the overall pace too much.

Good luck!

Oh, I guess it's a loop course so take a personal cooler with lots of ice. And some snacks you like. You might be surprised about how that loop gets longer during the day but some early walking might help.

They had a ton of ice, which I made use of.

The heat index was 106*.

I had roughly 15 20oz bottles of Gatorade (shout out to clear pee throughout and after the event!), a Clif bar, a banana, six(?) GUs and about 20 Endurolytes. I took things easy and felt good throughout. Delicious pulled pork sandwich, pasta salad and chips after the race.

My official finish distance was 29.4 miles but I actually covered 30.3 miles in the time limit. You only could receive credit for distance at aid stations. I hit aid station 1 with about 21 minutes left. The next aid station was too far away for me to have a shot at reaching it so I walked the .9 miles back to the start area well within 6 hours.

I had been hoping for 50k+ up until I saw the forecast for today. Had the weather been like last weekend with a high in the low 70s and little humidity I think I could have squeezed out 7 laps (33.25 miles). I’m happy with my finish today considering the conditions.

Good job! Jeez what miserable running conditions. :meh:
Parent - By The Beard (is wearing Arm Panties) [us] Date 2018-07-01 11:55 AM
Thanks. There was a bit of a breeze, most of the loop was in the shade and mosquitos, which I had been worried about, were not an issue so it wasn’t all bad.

Nice!  Congrats on the 30 miles, clear pee throughout, and being able to keep food down afterwards, especially under those conditions.  Seriously

Nice!

6 full loops under those conditions is awesome. That's a lot of Gatorade. Clearly you could be a spokesman for the product!
