What did you do today?
What’s the weather like?
Last concert or live music you saw? Any upcoming?
I have done nothing yet in the exercise department but look forward to some trail miles this evening with the Lady. Perhaps we will wander over to the Birdsboro Watershed. Yesterday's run was pretty decent for me these days. Some faster near tempo like stuff on the local trail. About 6 miles I suppose, multiple loops of small rollers. My creaky knee felt good once I got a few faster miles in but this is a pretty smooth surface trail so that helps.
Weather is fairly ideal. Low of mid to upper 50's at night, mid to upper 70's during the day, with scattered clouds and sun. No need for the AC in the house.
I had to think about that one. Not so much a concert as a house band at a honky tonk Tiki bar down in Crystal River, FL. A place called Crackers. Outdoors on the bay of Crystal River/King's Bay. Went there with my BIL and sister back in February during my FL trip. The music was awesome in it's rawness and loudness, mostly southern rock stuff, by a 3 piece group that appeared to have seen a lot of action. An eclectic audience was taking in the show, some dancing near their tables or bopping their heads to the beat. Waitresses were slinging 2$ drafts at a rapid pace. I was feeling the urge to get pretty lit but I was the designated driver so just had 2 pints. My BIL and I... we've partied there a few times in the past. It's always a fun place if you like that kind of scene.
That sounds fun. I opt for that kind of scene over anything big.
We went to Nashville on a girls trip last September and I loved all the honky tonks.
This weather is ideal but I'd like to see a little bit more of the sun
My creaky knee takes about 1.5 miles to warm up. I am just glad it eventually does warm up.
Lovely weather! Enjoy your trail miles tonight.
Sound like a fun time-the run and the music.

a honky tonk Tiki bar sounds right up my alley!

Bike commuting, likely 18ish miles by the end of the day.
2018-06-07 10:35 AM
I think bike commuting is a great way to work in exercise.

I don't remember, maybe the musical Beauty and the Beast last September. Nope.
2 dimes, a nickel and 5 pennies?
2018-06-07 8:31 PM
You are correct.
One penny and one dead bird for me today.
2018-06-07 10:22 AM
Nothing yet today, but Em and I are signed up for Orange Theory tonight. Currently 78 degrees and sunny.....which makes me think I should be spending my lunch break outside instead of sitting at my desk.
Going to see Luke Bryan, Sam Hunt, and Jon Pardi in a week or so. :giddy:
I see lots of people going in that place. What's it like?
I'm impressed! OTF killed me!
2018-06-07 11:51 AM
Legs still a little stiff after my work out last night. Cool morning.
Saw a duo called Betty and Ocho last weekend when I went to a pizza farm. Your typical acoustic guitar playing couple. Was enjoyable.
2018-06-07 4:43 PM
2018-06-07 4:49 PM
It's a farm that makes pizzas on random days. They can vary from basically a restaurant on a farm that serves pizza, wine, beer, soda, to a place they make pizza but you have to bring your own dishes, beer, side dishes. This
is the one we went to.
Is this a Minnesota thing?
2018-06-08 6:12 AM
(I like wool!)
2018-06-07 7:23 PM
5 miles along the river plus some capitol steps towards the end.
Another cool day, with temps about 68 despite the sunshine.
It's been way too long for a concert besides bar bands. The most recent we've seen were a couple in Hershey: Springsteen and then Billy Joel. That was the 3rd time I've seen Springsteen. Before that, The Who, also in Hershey. I've had to turn down a couple concerts in Philly recently because of schedule although my kid wanted me to go with him and I wish I could have...Muse and Avenged Sevenfold. I will see both of them at some point, two of my favorites.
2018-06-07 6:44 AM
Last day before Summer Break.
I promise I will start running again soon.
I'll be getting more upper body work today. We are just finishing Sheet Metal part 1, Riveting... Kinda bummed because I don't want to lose access to the tools and materials at school. This is a really fun section for me.
It doesn't count for much but I 'm surprised at how agile and quick I still am for being 48 and out of shape. My cat got out yesterday and I had to chase her down.
That sounds like fun! A break will be nice.
I remember working with sheet metal in middle school shop class. I made a toolbox. It was fun!
Those pet escapes can be hard on he nerves and the body.
we have an escape kitten too. She keeps us on our toes!
It's HOT. 80 degrees at 6 a.m.
5.2ish with 2 peeps
We must've seen 20 runners/walkers. Smart Texas peeps get out early.
The last concert we went to was Rhett Miller (Old 97s) and we're going to see the Old 97's at the FW Botanic Garden in a couple weeks. I really wanted to go to JT but I can't justify the cost.
Keeping pace with the Beard!
Wow, that's so hot for so early in the day!
A couple of my fiends saw JT and said it was fabulous.
too hot already!
That is early for the heat.
2018-06-07 10:31 AM
Dang, girl! That's way too hot for so early.
7 last night 4 this a.m.
It's 68 and we've been trending in the 90s.
Last night I went to the group run I posted about yesterday. It was kind of weird. I saw some people I knew and socialized before the run as well as afterwards, but the route wasn't super conducive to group running. It was a trolley track that had been converted to a running trail. The challenge was that it was in a fairly busy part of town and intersects with numerous cross streets. The run was at 6 which means rush hour traffic. Some of the runners turned around at 1.5 miles out to get 3. I kept going but got separated from some of the other runners at an intersection or two and ended up running by myself. I wanted to get 5 or 6 but due to so technical difficulties with my run app, I ended up running 7. Not what I planned, but it was a decent run.
Music: The last music event I attended was a modern ballet performance with DD for extra credit in a class she was taking at school. Before that I saw a U2 tribute band. Reaching here I know.
We are going to see Steely Dan and the Doobie Brothers in a couple of weeks.
That does sound like an odd group run. Well, you got some bonus miles.
Surprised that Doobie Brothers are still playing. I saw them once when I lived in the Dallas area in 1990 or 91'. They were sort of old then, well making the classic rock rounds at least.
I like the Doobie Brothers! Sounds fun!
11 miles in the past 24 hours - nice work!
Every time I run with a group I end up running alone so I stopped attempting group runs..
2018-06-07 9:11 AM
2018-06-07 9:21 AM
Normally it doesn't happen that way, but this was kind of an odd set-up. I don't mind running by myself, but I had been looking forward to the distraction of conversation. I am what I call a front of the middle runner. I am faster than average but not nearly fast enough to keep up with the fast group. I usually try to find another front of the middle runner to hang with, but I didn't have one last night.
I end up in nowhere land. Not slow enough for the back pack, not fast enough for the front pack. There doesn't ever seem to be anyone that runs whatever pace it is that I run
Nice job on the bonus mile!
Steely Dan and Doobie Brothers sounds awesome!
that group run does sound kind of weird. Bummer
Last night's workout was 8 miles on the bike to nowhere. It ended up being 8.x miles because I had to make the minutes an even 35:00. Which is the opposite from when I'm running and I like to make my mileage an even number.
Today's workout is 300 yards in the pool to nowhere.
The last concert I saw was Ryan Bingham at the City Winery in NYC. It was an acoustic show, and DH and I were literally right at the stage, and it was awesome. The last big concert we went to was U2 at the Meadowlands last summer, we got free tickets to our company's box seats which was also completely awesome.
No concerts planned for anytime in the near future.
I said ish today because my friend had the watch on, not me... I know nothing and it stresses me out. HAHA! Let it go!
Is the pool to nowhere just a regular swimming pool?
Although I am actually moving in the pool, I go from one end to the other, so I guess technically it's not "to nowhere"...different from my bike on the trainer in the basement where I am literally going nowhere. Thank you for pointing out that fallacy!
I guess a real pool to nowhere would be those fake pools that I see commercials for that are the size of hot tubs and just simulate you doing laps.
I would give my right arm (or child :p ) for an endless pool at my house.
I do time in the pool mostly because I don't count the laps.
That would be my preference, but the tri training program we are using specifies yards. So I just program the workouts into my watch and go until it tells me to stop. I would never be able to keep track of the laps!
I would like to see U2-hence the tribute band I mentioned in my post. They (the actual U2) came here recently, but DH insisted that the only "affordable" tickets were on the floor and he didn't want to be on the floor. Anyway, I didn't get to go.
Haven't done anything today and won't. Going to dinner with a friend after work and then get some mowing in I hope. Finally a little warmer today. It's barely reached 60 the last couple of days and it has been cloudy.
Walked 4 last night then the usual workout.
I think the last live music I saw was last summer..this guy Sean Farley. He was at a brewery in Watkins Glen. Nice sunny day. I ended up buying a couple of his CD's. Acoustic/folky stuff.
I typically buy a CD of a band who is playing a small place. It is my way of supporting the arts.
Pretty good. As of today, I have not run since last Thursday (walking every day). I am debating whether to pick it up again this weekend or start again Monday. I can definitely still feel something with certain movements, but the thing I am feeling has definitely improved as the week has gone on.
The only thing I dislike about walking is it takes so much longer than running.
Yeah. I will do anywhere from 4 to 6 when I'm walking but it takes forever.
Glad your hammy is feeling better!

2018-06-07 8:12 AM
Slept poorly last night and finally got up at 5:45 am local time - I had been looking forward to the chance to sleep in this morning but just was too restless to make that happen.
One of the stressors was that, as I was getting ready for bed last night, I wondered why the Air Canada app on my phone hadn't pinged me with a reminder to check in for my flight home today. When I checked - turns out that in my absent-minded, over-worked haze, I had booked my flight home for tomorrow rather than today.
I had to phone Air Canada this morning to change the flight. I expect I will wind up eating the $130 change fee.
My university is super-sticky about what we're allowed to claim. Oh well.
Anyway, I just got back from a half-hour run along the Vancouver seawall, which is in and of itself proof that life is good.
Gorgeous surroundings and I am feeling the benefits of my consistency lately - the fitness is building back.
Going to have a shower and then treat myself to a nice breakfast in the hotel restaurant.
Oh, and, most recent concert: a symphony concert a couple of weeks ago with my daughter. Music by Wolfgang and Leopold Mozart. Our annual symphony subscription is something she and I both enjoy very much - she knows much more about classical music than I do so I always learn a lot from her, and we both love listening to it. Not to mention our inviolable tradition of buying cheesecake at intermission!
Your run sounds awesome
What a great tradition
At least you got a nice run in!
Sounds like a lovely morning!
That sounds very stressful and expensive.
Glad the run was good though.
I love that tradition--we have musicals tickets and I would like to transition to the symphony when my kid is a little older.
sorry about the flight mixup. That is frustrating.
2018-06-07 1:11 PM
I did that with 2 separate flights last year. On one, I booked a month earlier (it was Feb / March so the days were the same in each month) and the second time I was off by a week!
That's a nice tradition you have with your daughter!
The symphony sounds fun!
10 miles with high humidity and 80 degrees at 5:50 am. It wasn't too bad until the last half mile....at that point I felt sick to my stomach. Better do some smart rehydrating today! Boxing class tonight.
Not counting the various HS musical performances I have attended in the past month, my last musical excursion was to hear a friend of a friend's band play at local brewery. They were a mix of cover and original stuff and quite good. (Classic rock and country) The last concert I went to was Zac Brown Band last fall.....that is the only concert we go to every year as I hate to pay for them and dealing with the crowds.
high humidity and 80 degrees at 5:50 am
That's the reason I don't go to many shows. The cost is downright scary. You can talk about experiences over things all you want, but but still it's a lot of money (even for a fantastic experience).
the weather just sucks now. Every run is a slog.
That weather sounds brutal.
Yes, the cost of concerts and musicals is prohibitive!
I bet that's a good show.
The crowds is a good point of why I like to avoid too.
Nice run in this junk!
I ran 6.5 miles today. I dawdled and didn't get out early enough and had a hard stop at 6:45. I need to work on that.
It is hot and miserable.
Last musical performance I saw was technically one of several kid performances. We have season tickets to the musicals here so that might count. One of my favorite live music events is this Friday, when the DSO plays in my local park. It is always amazing and I feel lucky that we can walk to see the orchestra and drink wine in the grass when my kid dances with her friends. Unfortunately, this year I think we might have to miss it-we have tickets to a fundraiser for the candidate for Senate we support! Fortunately that is also walking distance and there will be beer.
I get lost in the morning routine too. Who are these people who can roll out of bed and run?
No email before a your run!
If I am not meeting people to run, I tend to get distracted by doing stuff around the house. For the next few months, every minute counts to avoid the sun, so I need to stop doing that.
I hope we get a slight reprieve from the heat but it's not looking promising!
I haven't done anything in the way of working out yet today. I'll teach spin class this evening and am debating heading in early and swimming before it
This morning I organized spin classes for next week since I'll be away at least half of Saturday & half of Sunday for the Tri on Sunday morning. I RD our club's first race for this summer on Tuesday evening so I also wanted Wednesday morning's class "in the can" before the weekend. One of two playlists downloaded to my iPad ok but the other isn't completely copying
I can't figure out why it does this sometimes! It had been "good" for quite a while
It's weird because I also save the playlists to my old 4th gen iPod touch and it copied to that with no problem
yet again! I'm giving my iPad a "timeout" now
and will try again later.
It's about 75 here & partly sunny/partly cloudy. Weather for the race on Sunday is beginning to look crappy
60% chance of T Storms on Saturday and 60% chance of rain on Sunday. On Saturday afternoon I need to ride my bike from shuttle parking to the race site & rack it, pick up race packet. If it's just rain (no lightning) on Sunday, swimming won't be bad but that would put a damper (ha..ha) on the 23 mile bike portion.
I can't remember the last musical performance I attended.
Are you using iTunes, Spotify or Apple Music?
I think Apple is secretly trying trying to chase people away from iTunes and get them to go to Apple Music. I have tried to explain this to my DH when he decries that nothing works with iTunes anymore. I gave in along time ago.
2018-06-07 11:07 AM
iTunes. It's not a new issue but it had been working very smoothly for some time until today. Moving songs/playlist from iTunes on my PC to iTunes on my iPad is the issue. While I have deliberately not updated to the current IOS on my iPad (to keep an app I use to run the class from functional), the issue occurred long before Apple released the version of IOS not compatible with the app. It's mind boggling and a real PITA!
Bummer on the weather! I hope it changes!
Nothing, yet. Went to my daughter's Honors Breakfast award thing this morning, will have to run this afternoon. I have 6 miles planned, plus a 45 minute spin class.
The weather is, slightly overcast, sticky, high of 71°.
Hmmm. Probably the way way off Broadway production of Heathers we saw in February. I don't get out much.
Those are good plans.
30 minute bike this morning. It’s kind of fun to hit my running routes on a bike and just mow through the miles.
Beautiful summer weather right now - low humidity, highs in the low 80s, overnight lows in the 50s. Girlfriend is coming for a visit this weekend - with her kids (ages 3 and 5)! It should be beautiful for getting out to a playground or park. First time her kids will meet mine...fingers crossed
My oldest kid graduates from high school today
good luck with the visit!! and congrats to the high school grad.
oh wow! What are her plans for next year?
She’ll be taking a gap year - doing a program called City Year, in Chicago. Chicago is good because with the way she and I have been butting heads the past 2+ years...(a) we’re lucky one of us hasn’t killed the other, and (b) I really want and need to dropkick her ass out the door. Great kid, obviously I love her, and she’s going to do some interesting and amazing things with her life, but right now I also kind of hate her.
It sounds like a great plan for her. City Year is very cool! And yeah, getting some separation is sometimes the best thing for a relationship.
That parental relationship sounds about right! Harry was just like that two years ago, and he's not over it yet.
You think you're old? My youngest graduates from HS next week!
Good luck with the kids!
Good luck with the meet and greet!
When I was injured I biked my 7 mile running route. When I got home, I look at the clock and thought well hell, that wan't even a workout.
Fun weekend coming up
I didn't get a run in this morning as planned because I'm too sore from ballet yesterday to run. My two hobbies don't get along.
I will be going to another ballet class tonight.
Last concert was a long time ago but last live music was an incredible Doors cover band at a festival in Huntington Beach on Memorial Day.
Have you tried ballet while you are running?
actually, I practice my turn out or balance on demi pointe every time I stop at an intersection. Aren't you sorry you asked?
Awesome. I think
Rob26.2 must go Google for some definitions.
I imagine ballet makes everything sore!
yes! and there are new and exciting injuries which are different than my running injuries.
Does ballet make you sore like barre or would that be totally different?
I've never taken a barre class but imagine it's the same since we do most of the class at the barre. I am just guessing that ballet is stricter to classical form and technique and maybe barre classes incorporate more straight up exercise?
I did some stretching and strengthening exercises at noon.
I’m taking some downtime this week to recover from my busy spring. Actually, looking back at my records it has been a busy 12 months with 7 marathons since last June. No wonder I’m feeling pretty beat up.
I saw 2 different Pysical Therapists yesterday to get some help in getting my various aches and pains in check. I liked the first guy better than the woman I saw at lunch but may do a session with each to see what exercises they give me. Both didn’t see any major issues but have some things they think will help get me running more like I’d like to be running.
It’s hot here - 90’s for the next week at least. I will ease into some heat acclimation running starting this weekend.
Last live music was when a friend was hosting an open mike night at a restaurant near us.
Time for a high mileage checkup.
2018-06-07 1:50 PM
I think I need a new transmission.
Enjoy your downtime! You've done A LOT!
2018-06-07 11:39 AM
I did 9 miles. Overcast, 70 with a nice breeze when I ran. Our humidity has generally been lower this summer, which is nice.
Also, I signed up for the Tulsa Route 66 Marathon.
So I finally have a race on the horizon. Now I need to find one in late Sept. or Oct.
How timely... Mrs. Rob and I are going to a free concert tonight featuring The Romantics.
The last concert was Sarah Evans. Mrs Rob got the tickets from StubHub and we ended up in the front row, dead center. It was a little uncomfortable being that close to the stage; I felt like either she was staring at me or the entire audience behind me was staring at me.
There were times I could have reached out and touched her foot. #thislittlepiggy
We have a nice group going to Mohawk Hudson in NY on Oct 7. Spin, Doughboy, and I will be there and Chris is trying to talk John H into doing the full.
I enjoyed Rt 66. Did you do the Center of the Universe detour the year we ran it?
Yes, Rob, come join us!
I did not go to the center of the universe. The detour is too close to the finish.
My first concert ever was The Romantics! :DetroitBand:
Lucky! I'd love some low humidity!
Enjoy The Romantics!
Spent most of the day helping a close bud with demolition and repair at his lake cottage.
Later 2 gallos on the track .
Last concert was Bruce and friends last summer at MetLIfe stadium. It still blows my mind that Bruce can perform full throttle for 4+ hours.
