5.2 miles for me. Bike commuting today.
Parent - - By Xtreme Taper Date 2018-06-05 7:01 AM Edited 2018-06-05 7:03 AM
5 late yesterday evening on the local trail, finishing up at sunset. It was almost dark in the woodsier parts of the trail. I kind of like that. The Lady was shagging it last night. Perhaps she does not believe this a proper running trail. Due to her slowness I was dusted by some young gal on the spur back to the trailhead where my car was parked. I wanted to kick my old legs into gear to show her I was not AARP trogger, but the Lady was on leash and having none of that.

Planet of fitness at lunch is the plan, with 6 or 7 miles this evening on a trail TBD.

Took SirB to the vet last night for shots and checkup, and a good ear cleaning. Vet saw something in his eye that he suspects may be a melanoma. But he is not sure. I held SirB a lot last night. He is 14+ now. I have not told my wife, though I know I should.

I don't even know. They kind of stopped reading books and it's more get together groups. Seemed like my wife was the only one who kept reading the books.

300 yard swim last night. It was my first time doing a structured swim workout. I had to slow WAY down since the rest periods were so short. But also the workout went very quickly since I wasn't lollygagging on my rest periods. : pbbt:

Likely only a dog walk tonight after work and errands. DH and I had set our alarms to run this morning, but neither of us has been sleeping well so we bailed. It's only 8 days out from the marathon, so that's ok. DH also said that <gasp> his knees are feeling better since laying off the running! :shocker!::roll: He has been having knee pain for years (potential patellar tendon tear), and the doctor (and everyone else including me) told him the only way his knees would feel better was with total rest, and only now that he's been resting and his knees feel better does he get it. :meh: He is even going to cut back on the mileage this summer while we are tri training. :shocker!: He might have actually learned something! : pbbt: He really should listen to me more often.
Parent - - By skigirl Date 2018-06-05 9:23 AM

Parent - - By donnasaur [us] Date 2018-06-05 9:58 AM
that knee pain sucks though. It sounds like it isn't really going to get better...
Parent - By Beastie Girl [us] Date 2018-06-05 11:46 AM
It's an overuse injury. Basically the doctor said he has a bunch of micro tears in his tendon from overuse, and if he keeps overusing it there is the potential of the tendon fully tearing. So of course DH is choosing to run until the thing tears. But if he backs off and lets some of the micro tears heal, at least the pain should lessen for a bit. It probably will never heal fully.

The ole "rest & recovery" thing is hard for even us old people who have been running since the '80s to get into our noggins from time to time.

Haven't posted a daily for a few days so here is my catch-up:

Friday: ran to Pilates.  Plan was to run home as well, but it was *bucketing* rain when the class finished, and I was too lightly dressed to withstand being out in that :delicate:, so I signed out a car from a carshare program I belong do, and drove home.  It was the right choice but blew my hope of getting in 10K steps every day last week.  : pbbt:

Saturday: went to DD's softball tournament in the morning - they played well, and won the two games I was there for.   Skipped her third game as friends of ours were having a get-together and we needed to send a family representative.  Ran to our friends' place, which turned out to be more of a run than I expected as the trail system between our houses had been ripped up in three separate places for construction, so I had to dipsy-doodle around to figure out a way of actually getting to where our friends live.  I eventually arrived, and was well-fed for my troubles.

Sunday: crazy-busy with non-running stuff - I'm taking a graduate course next week that has been compressed into three days so there is a *tonne* of reading to do and I needed to focus on that.  I had hoped to get out for a run or a walk but didn't prioritise that enough for it to actually happen.

Monday: back-to-back meetings from 7:00-1:00 followed by zipping right out my office door to the airport for a flight to Vancouver.  Arrived here in time for a phone meeting, then went out for a run by the ocean.   So beautiful, and a nice treat to be away from home for a while - my allergies have been in hyperdrive and I have been taking allergy meds around the clock for weeks now.  Don't need the meds here.

Today: got a nice sleep-in (went to bed at 10:00 and set my alarm for 8:00 :bliss:).  I have a meeting at 11:00 at a place that's about an hour's walk from my hotel, so I'll walk there and back and that will be the exercise for the day.
Parent - - By blazer85 [us] Date 2018-06-05 10:12 AM
Today, I shall use "dipsy-doodle" at least once in conversation because you just made it sound fun!

I could hear thunder rumbling when the alarm went off and the big dog, who is a barometer which hates storms, had climbed up into bed and sat on my pillow/head , so I decided today would be an elliptical day rather than run 10 miles.  Since I had run the last seven days in a row, this was probably doubly wise.  So, I watched two episode of Scandal while ellipticalling for 90 minutes.  Will go to boxing class tonight.

I don't know what I did to my work computer, but, when I signed on this morning, the font was noticeably bigger.  It is as though my computer is alive and knows I squint at all day long.......spooky!
Parent - By redraider0528 (Fashionista) Date 2018-06-05 10:46 AM
The thunder started here about 3 a.m. so it had moved through when we left at 6. Guess it was pokey!
Parent - By brneydrnnr (barney cougar) [us] Date 2018-06-05 11:04 AM
it was lightning just as I pulled within 1/2 mile of work - I was quite glad to get into the building. but then we never got any rain here in Richardson.
Parent - - By Beastie Girl [us] Date 2018-06-05 11:51 AM
The dog is wise!

If you push CTRL+ the + button, your font will get bigger, CRTL + the - button your font will get smaller. Or if you have a mouse with a scroll wheel, CTRL + scrolling the wheel will make your font bigger or smaller.

HA! I enjoy lawn mowing. I just don't like the edging part.
Parent - - By Ed [us] Date 2018-06-05 2:05 PM
Two hours of my life I'll never get back

3-step process; mow, edge, blow clippings & other debris off patio, sidewalk, etc.  Edging isn't bad unless/until the spool runs out of twine   I have had no success with the gas edgers so after having a manual one : pbbt:: pbbt:: pbbt: and a plug in electric one a few years ago I got a 40 volt battery powered edger and it's great!  A year before that I got a high powered electric blower and I wish that was 40 volt battery too because I need to hook up two 100' extension cords to get to the far corners of my property. Rolling & unrolling the cords is a PITA!
Parent - By redraider0528 (Fashionista) Date 2018-06-05 2:14 PM
Yeah, we have an electric blower thank goodness.

Now that we have a pool, mowing in the backyard takes longer.:cry: Gotta clean out the grass clippings because I can't find the bag.

7.25 treadmill miles today. Husband is traveling so that is my only option, I was glad hear the thunder-it meant I wasn't missing an outside run.

I think I mentioned we have a lot of travel this summer. It is mostly good, but just stressful since every time we need to make sure that we have the logistics covered. We are going away this weekend for my ILs anniversary party :meh:then to see my parents for a week in late June and a vacation late July. my husband has a ton of work trips and I have at least two. Fortunately the second one is where my brother and SIL live with their new baby, so I think I can take my kiddo so she can get some time with them. I just feel like my summer weekend are already getting booked up and are going to fly by!
Parent - - By redraider0528 (Fashionista) Date 2018-06-05 10:53 AM
Nice treadmill run! I guess it's fixed?

My kids are bored this week. I told them this is likely the only week they'll feel that way. We don't have as much travel as you do but they've got two camps this month, then we travel early July two weekends in a row... then overnight camp for them ... then to Colorado for a week and then school starts! It's going to FLY.
Parent - - By donnasaur [us] Date 2018-06-05 11:04 AM
it is fixed. I don't really like my TM that much, but I am glad I have it.

My kid is in camp every week we are home. This week she is in two half day camps and comes home for lunch. I realized yesterday that I had her doing something different this week, next week and the week after and that she doesn't know any kids at any camps. So I changed some of the schedule but now I have her double booked for the week of 6/18 and need to see if I can cancel. She wants to do it, but I think she will be sad if she has to make new friends every week.

My kids went to The Pines for 5-6 summers and loved it. It wasn't fancy, but they always said it was their favorite week of the summer. I never went to camp and was almost jealous my kids had that experience.
Parent - By redraider0528 (Fashionista) Date 2018-06-05 1:45 PM
Oh! That's great to hear. I have heard so many good things about The Pines. I'll definitely have to look into it. I didn't go until I was in 8th grade and by that point, I hated it... I really want my kids to go and enjoy it.

walked 4.3 last night and the usual workout after. It was so nice last night when I walked the kitties. Breezy and sunny with puffy clouds. McDuff climbed the willow which is usually pretty hysterical as he is not very graceful  He nearly tumbled out a couple of times. Anyway, something similar tonight. It's very fallish out there today.

My co-worker trapped 5 kittens and their mom between last night a and early this afternoon. He got the mom and two babies last evening. There was a little wet calico in the trap this morning and just a little while ago, two grey tabbies. He and his wife do a lot of rescue, so they are in good hands. The kittens look to be 5 or 6 weeks old and while scared, I think they will be easy to socialize. He said the mom is pretty pissed..she's a black cat. Anyway, it reminds me of the fosters I had a few years ago. They were also found here at work but they were bottle babies and we were never able to trap the mom. I found homes for the five kittens and am still in touch with a couple of the adopters
Parent - - By blazer85 [us] Date 2018-06-05 12:47 PM
I admire what you do for all the cats and kitties.
Parent - - By cowboyjunkie Date 2018-06-05 1:03 PM
I really don't do that much. I've fostered three times in the last few years. I did find out while helping at a race last weekend that one of my fosters from last fall was finally adopted . This was a young adult kitty that needed a lot of socializing. I visited him a few times after he went back to the shelter but I was so glad to hear he was adopted.
