5.2 miles for me this morning. Nice day.
A short 4 miles on the local trail last night with the Lady. She was looking a bit tired from the warmer more humid weather so we took it easy and cut the run short.
Today, a midday heat acclimation run. 7 miles on the road into town and back. Felt pretty good the first 5 miles then the wheels fell off and I jogged it in, but I was too stubborn/stupid to shorten the route. First dash and splash run of the season. 70 degree pool water felt most excellent post run.
yes hot today! that pool must have felt great! impressed that you ran on the road in the middle of the day today.
Nice! This weather is weirding me out!
Yesterday morning I was so chilly I put on a wool sweater over my shirt and long pants, and by 3pm I was dying from the heat!
Heat acclimation is a good idea.

Add a 1.25 hour paddle in the kayak.
(I like wool!)

Nice day there and nice day here, pretty tropical but it felt good to really sweat for 6 miles.
Also a good day for our friend in Pittsburgh with recent brain cancer surgery...they took the staples out of his head, he enjoyed some of the lasagna that mrs. flamus left for them, he walked 6-7 steps and they scheduled him to start the radiation later this week.
4.2-ish miles for me today. My Garmin freaked out and logged more miles than I actually ran. It did the same thing Sunday.
Sunday I recorded my fastest mile ever of 0:00! Today I had a couple of 4-minute miles.
I think I need to reset my Garmin.
Humid and warm here!

You need to get on Strava.
I am on Strava, but it just imports my Garmin data.
So now Strava has 2 incorrect-length runs since I can't figure out how to change the distance manually.
I hope ypu get that straightened out. I have the most basic Garmin ever and enter a lot of my Strava runs manually.
that's weird. I've never had my garmin do that.
That was my initial thought!
Or.....maybe you are a secret superhero??
Did you happen to recently update your phone? I did and my garmin went nuts and wouldn't connect. Apparently I had to do an additional update and all is fine. Technology.
You are infinitely fast.
I had the opposite experience with my old garmin on the escarpment/sklyine trail at Hawk Mountain. It showed immediate pace of 99:99 during some segments up there on the rocks.
I've had similar issues and I do a reset and it's all good.

SDO from running. it's bike commute day, so 14 miles to work and another 14 back this afternoon. it's going to be mid 90s on the way home, I'm super looking forward to that
after I get home it will either be another dvd (this is week 4 already) or ladies tennis drills at the neighborhood club from 7:30 until 9pm. I need to brush up because mrbarney signed us up for mixed doubles again, and I need all the help I can get
ladies tennis drills at the neighborhood club
Enjoy the 90* weather!
2018-05-15 9:25 AM
I wish. we'll see if they even have enough takers to actually hold them.
I hope ypu enjoy whatever workout you end up choosing.
2018-05-16 7:54 AM
they didn't end up having tennis drills, so Cardio Power & Resistance it was for me. then I finished up, grabbed benji and met my mom out for a walk around the block. we made the mistake of putting a nice lazy-boy in her room and I'm pretty sure she's in it 90% of her day looking at her phone.
so I have to nag...remind, her that she has diabetes, and that she needs to get up and be active.
2018-05-15 11:08 AM
Ugh, 14 miles in that kind of heat would not be my cup of tea at all. What type of DVD workouts do you like?
2018-05-15 2:37 PM
we are doing Insanity with Sean T. it's the worst
it's one month, then one week of recovery and then another month. the scale hasn't budged (actually I'm up 2lbs since vegas this past weekend, oops) but running is easier.
I used to play tennis when I was young......I miss it.
Yeah, Jack asked Alexa this morning what the high was today? I told him for the foreseeable future, the answer is HOT.
2018-05-15 2:38 PM
10 miles in the stank. In a month, I will be grateful for only 77 degrees at 5:45 am
. Will go to boxing class tonight. Blazergirl is home from school now and she goes with me which makes it even more fun. Since she doesn't start her internship until next week, she has time to make dinner which is even more fun!
2018-05-15 8:29 AM
it was super humid riding to work this morning. yuck! and it just started pouring, so maybe that will help for the ride home
We had low 60s with massive humidity this morning and I thought of y'all in the stank
2018-05-15 9:38 AM
Gotta love having the kid home to make dinner
Tonight is a rare time when you can beat the crap out of your kid and it’s met with approval.
At an engineering firm in Addison....she worked there last summer and over Christmas as well. They have told her that as long as business is good when she graduates, they will hire her. Besides the "lady who answers the phone", she is the only female employee. Their chief engineer is a family friend who watches over her like a daughter and he says everyone just loves having her around. Even if she doesn't end up working there later, it is a very nice atmosphere for her to break into an all male workplace. Blazerman has started doing some contract work the firm, so it is a family affair!
2018-05-15 11:07 AM
Nice to have your daughter home! Will she be with you all summer or does she have to move for her internship?
Her internship is local, so I get to drive her crazy all summer!
Right? I can hardly wait for all my clothing to be stuck to me and literally wrung out. UGH!
Nice job and how nice to have dinner help!!
3 hilly trail miles and prenatal yoga

Beard: Please...put out some questions in the Dailies. Or let one of the Marathons people start the Dailies. You can even start with something like “Tell me about your (a) current car, (b) favorite car you’ve ever owned, and (c) dream car.
5 miles through the woods this morning. 3 loops plus a little out-and-back.
Does anyone have a good core/strength routine that can be added at the end of a run and done in ~5 minutes?
Yup, I think I need to add some burpees into the mix. I semi-regularly do push-ups and planks.
Do the full push up with your burpee and not the sissy ones and you hit a lot of muscles.
hi Tim! How are you?
donnasaur! So good to hear from you on here. I’m good - very good actually. Older and slower but at a happy place in life after a rocky last several years. How are you?
I'm old slow and soft too
2018-05-15 11:07 AM
2018-05-15 12:08 PM
I will echo "planks". At the risk of sounding dramatic, building up and doing planks daily can change your body. Start out as long as you can and then every other day, do it ten seconds longer. My longest plank was 6:15 so there is your goal.
2018-05-15 12:08 PM
Plank for 6:16 to beat blazer’s record
. But she’ll still kick my ass in a boxing gym.
I read your post quickly and read "questions in the dailies" as "quesadillas" and then I was sad that you weren't actually talking about quesadillas.
2018-05-15 12:11 PM
Tuesday, not quesadilla Tuesday.
Except I’m throwing that into total disarray by picking up burritos
for dinner on the way home tonight.
No wonder Beard doesn't understand the correct daily process- you never answered with what your current car is, or your favorite car, or your dream car!
Planks, or Rodney Yee's Yoga for Abs dvd. The latter really helped me get to my first BQ.
9 miles this morning. It was hot and humid and miserable. Blah.
we are in the home stretch with school stuff. It is good, but there is so much 'come to the school' activity at the end of the year. The kiddos have done a 3 week lesson on entrepreneurship and the culmination is tomorrow, so I need to go for that. It is cute though. the class designed a lemonade stand, built it, painted it and tomorrow will sell lemonade to parents.
7:30pm conference call tonight.
2018-05-15 11:06 AM
Hi! I don't think we've "met" previously - I came over from Women's. How old are your kids?
I feel your pain on conference calls - I often get them at 6:00 or 7:00 am.
I'm not a morning person so interacting with others at that time of day can sometimes be a real struggle.
hi-I used to post in marathons. Only 1 kid, she is 6, finishing up kindergarten.
I love mornings and usually work from 5-6am. 7:30 pm I am already tired from the day!
good to meet you!
7:30? Is it an international call?
So cute about the lemonade stand!
yes, it is with Korea.
the lemonade stand is adorable, it will be fun to see the end of the project.
I am so grateful to have only two more school obligations, plus graduation, that I have to attend EVER! EVER!!!!!
I am grateful I only have one kid! There are so many obligations and activities.
It is so sticky!!!
That sounds like a cute idea!
Yep, we have so much going on too... just signed up for field day this morning.
I saw your sister graduated with her Master's this week? Awesome! Congrats to her! Hope all is well with you, N and R!
Yup-her second masters! Totally crazy. Things are good-what’s up with you?
2018-05-15 11:04 AM
Hi everyone - I've been lurking but not posting. Work has been really stressful for the past few weeks and so I've been busy, and also sometimes when I'm stressed I tend to withdraw, which isn't necessarily the healthiest coping strategy.
At least I have been exercising regularly, though, as another, healthier, coping strategy.
I have a work conference yesterday, today and tomorrow. Slept about three hours last night - woke up at 12:30, flipped and flopped around until after 5:00 am, then managed to eke out another hour or two.
Not sure if it was due to stress, or just sleeping in a new place - I often find it hard to sleep in hotels where you can't open the window.
Yesterday was my normal rest day - today is usually the day I get in one of my harder workouts of the week. The conference stuff started at 8:00 am and goes right through to a dinner that ends at 8:00 pm.
I think I may skip the dinner in favour of hitting the hotel fitness centre. I'm sure I will get frowned at for skipping the dinner but the thought of twelve straight hours sitting on my butt is not appealing.
where are you traveling?
those late night conference dinners are torture. Hope you can skip
Ugh, conferences like that can be so soul-sucking. I vote for skipping the dinner.
I suspect you won't be the only person skipping the dinner. I hope you get a workout in and a decent night sleep.
I hope you can skip and get in a workout! I bet that will help you feel better.
2018-05-15 4:44 PM
I've gotten in the habit of getting up early when at conferences and getting my run in before things start. I never have the energy in the evening, and by going first thing I make sure I get to bed early and behave myself (as much as is possible, at least). It also makes me less anxious during the event as I'm too tired to really care.
50 min spin and 41 burpees
Wow! I hurt just thinking about one burpee!
2018-05-15 2:40 PM
that's a lot of burpees!
I figured I'd do my age a few times a week!
Will try for 7 or 8 after work. There is a tornado warning until 8 p.m. Of all the weather stuff, this one scares me the most.
Walked 5 last night and then headed to the gym for the usual.
McDuff gets an echo-cardiogram tomorrow. He needs to fast for 16 hours. Somehow, I think this is gonna be harder on me than on him
Yep, tornado warnings are scary. Hope all stays safe.
Best wishes for McDuff
Does that area usually get tornadoes?
2018-05-15 5:58 PM
2018-05-15 6:00 PM
Typically no. But several years ago, one touched down very close to where I use to live. I am up on a hill now and I can look over to the hill where I use to live and my neighbors have talked of how they watched it skip along my former hill.
eta, we will get warnings and watches from time to time in the summer, but they rarely hit here. The one was cancelled today so I was able to get out for about 6 after work.
Back home after 2+ weeks vacation and starting to get over jet lag and airplane cold. Trying to do 3 Gallos, but the weather folks say T-storms along with tornado warnings.
A Viking canal cruise from Budapest to Amsterdam. Everything was top notch ( always wanted to say that
). Saw much, ate more , walked many kilometers . This was to celebrate our 50th in 2013 , but my numerous health problems caused many delays ; finally the docs said go for it.
I would highly recommend Viking to one and all .
I was very impressed with all the countries . Their infrastructures put us to shame. I love the USA , but sometimes during our travels, I began to question who won the war .
Sounds like an awesome trip
that sounds amazing! belated happy 50th
How nice!!! I'm so glad y'all got to go!
USDO for me. I was almost leaving the house for the gym to swim and I got a call from the Co. I hired to clean/re-sand/seal the pavers on my backyard patio that they would come today "after noon" to power wash
He originally had me in for the 1st week of June but said it could be earlier. So, I was going to do it later on today anyway but I made one of the few trips up on my roof with the leaf blower to get all the maple tree helicopter thingies & oak tree "sheddings" out of the gutters. Also had to clear everything off the patio and clean up the mounds of crap that came off the roof. Since I still had time, I cut the grass in the yard again and bagged it to suck up some of the crap falling from the trees.
They got here around 1:30 and are power washing away. After today it will likely be several days or a week before the sanding and sealing steps since we're supposed to have rain just about every day for the next week
Good day to be working with water! It's already in the mid 80s. After the T Storms forecast for dinner time, it's supposed to drop back into the 60s overnight.
I bet it'll look pretty when it's all done!
Bummer on the rain though!
I have some lawn work here, if you're interested!
I hate yard work so much that I'm always impressed by people like you, who just tackle it.
Since most of the trees are in the back, about 99,000,000,000,000,000 of those helicopter thingies accumulated since I last mowed it . three . days . ago
The power washer guys are done & gone. Our patio hasn't looked this nice in years! They need dry weather to re-sand it (isometric sand fills in between the pavers) and more dry weather for sealing. If this was last week they could have been done in 3 straight days. I see rain in the forecast until next Wednesday
This weather sucks. I'm supposed to crew a friend who's doing a 72-hour race near Sparta, NJ, this weekend.
I have some helicopter things, but mostly I get those long stringy things, clumps of 3-4 inch long greenish things.
2018-05-16 9:04 AM
I have lots of BOTH
6 miles on trails this’s morning.
We have a vendor in for all day meetings today so I knew that a lunch run was out of the question plus we are getting a bunch of rain from a sub-tropical system off the coast. It was humid and 70 so was pretty awful, but what we have to deal with for the next few months.
Meetings today are concerning our upcoming merger with another firm. We will be adding about 350 people and 7-8 offices in Florida. Things are going to be crazy for the rest of the summer as August 1 is the first big milestone for integration.
Glad you got your run in early!
Wow, huge merger! Sounds like you will have a lot of work on your plate in the near future!
So, you will have to run 7-8 marathons in Florida! Good thing I still need the state!!
2018-05-15 3:51 PM
I may re-think my “run a marathon in every city where we have an office” goal if they keep this up.
We’ll see what you come up with for Florida as that should be fairly easy for me to work in as most of them are in December / January and aside from Hawaii, I don’t have any others in January.
60 minute really hard "endurance max" spin class this morning. If one can be in taper when one did not really train for a marathon, then I am in taper mode right now.
Running Buffalo on Labor Day Weekend Sunday. It's usually too hot there for me to race well, but this has been such a strange weather year. If the forecast looks good I'll give it my best shot! Lots of house stuff going on, in addition to the regular inspection the buyers are doing a chimney inspection, a sewer line inspection, and a second oil tank sweep that is in add-on to the one I had done when we took out the oil tank last September.
But whatever, it's their dime, so they are welcome to inspect anything.
And I had my usual 8-10 dogs to walk today. During my last walk, my husband texted to say his boss bought his entire office ice cream. But I got a free poop bag at the dog park and a blood blister from where a nasty terrier bit me, so there!
Nice job on your spin class... I'm so curious what all you do in yours!
I like the variety Peloton has, You can choose from 20, 30, 45, 60, 75, or 90 minute classes, you can choose which instructor you want (though not every instructor teaches every type of class), and you can choose the type of class- General (hard, has a mix of intervals and high resistance, etc), interval (some tabata), heart rate max, heart rate endurance, Power Zone max and Power Zone endurance. Power Zone training is just going by output number instead of heart rate- great workouts but kind of gimmicky name. I'm an endurance junkie, so I usually go for the 60 minute HR or PZ rides, with a 90 minute ride once a week or so, and a general or interval ride once a week.
Yesterday I took my class over Stage 1 of the Giro d"Italia since it's going on this month. Stage 1 is "just" a 9.7km Time Trial with some hills & flats but we rode it 4 times, first time just a "tour", 2nd time as "B" riders, 3rd as "A" riders and the final time as Pros. Each time was more difficult...a bit more resistance on the hills and faster cadence on the flats. Giro d'Italia Stage 1

Great idea for a ride!
ETA: This Italian tour rides in Jerusalem?
2018-05-15 4:48 PM
Yes, first 3 stages this year were in Israel. Even the Tour de France has 2 or 3 stages outside of France.
Cool! I may have to try that!

8.2 miles today including 8x600@BQ-2:00 pace
