I was MIA yesterday. Took the day off work bc I woke up with a sore neck for the 3rd day in a row and a headache. As predicted the headache got worse as the day went on. I did get in for a massage yesterday afternoon which helped my neck. The lady was really surprised it didn't help the headache as she said she's usually good at that. I'm like nothing is going to cure this headache but prescription pills.

I had some wellness money to use at work and it had to be used by 3/31 so I'm able to get reimbursed for my massage - woohoo

This morning I was working on my laptop on the couch waiting for B to wake up and my neck started to hurt. I think I need to be conscious of not looking down because once I put a pillow on my lap it helped.

Grandparents sent B a graphic tee for Easter. In my mind I kept thinking I would send him in it Friday to daycare since it is the last day before Easter. Except I know that daycare is closed Friday for Good Friday but I never put two and two together. Oops.  At least I remembered to bring the Easter book today

The Starbucks on my way to work opened back up  I really good have used it this morning but I didn't know it was open again. Oh well.

Somedays I really miss the pre-kid me

Hope you can get that dang headache under control :hug:
Parent - - By Photocat [us] Date 2018-03-29 6:21 AM
I live in the Bible belt and the daycares aren't closed for Good Friday:wtf:

Glad you got the massage and you get reimbursed for it!

my daycare is at a church so it makes sense. It surprised me last year because I would have never thought of it. My work is closed tomorrow too so it works out.
Parent - By Photocat [us] Date 2018-03-29 6:42 AM
Oh yeah....both great and inconvenient.
Parent - By spiritbear [us] Date 2018-03-29 6:56 AM
Sorry about the headache. Hope you get to feeling better soon.

So, ya know the thing that runners fear happening to them while running? It happened to me. Rip and I were doing 2. We got to 1 and my stomach started turning. Another .3 and pretty much the only place there is to hide and take care of business so I hopped back behind that sign. Rip thinks it is hilarious. I'm pretty sure she will be telling the whole school today that I pooped my pants. But I didn't. She doesn't care:mutmad::roll:

Stayed up super late doing homework. I'm a bad student:meh: I'm so behind. Now my eyes are red and I need a IV coffee.

Payday tomorrow! Yay!

I need a nap.

Watched Roseanne. I rarely watched it when I was a kid but it was hilarious. Quite nostalgic:grin:

:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh: pooping during a run is funny as shit :laugh::laugh::laugh:

I told my mom our 2 mile run was really shitty and Ripley cracked up:laugh: Of course my mom was like "and did you have toilet paper?" No, mom. You know I didn't. I don't even carry water on runs less than 3 miles. She just said "See!" Yeah.:roll: Still not gonna............
Parent - - By flyguy (Stump Grinder) [us] Date 2018-03-29 6:28 AM
Lots of trail runners come home without a bandana or wearing only one sock hahahahaha

NEVER pick up a bandana, sock or glove on the trails
Parent - By Photocat [us] Date 2018-03-29 6:38 AM
Wow! I'd have never thought about using a sock! That is a great idea. I could have used that yesterday.

I was more worried I'd have to go again and there would be no place to hide before I got home. But I was fine after.
Parent - - By kelly_v Date 2018-03-29 6:45 AM
I've told M that about the sock and he looks at me like I'm crazy saying I've heard of people doing that. Although I feel like completing a run without a sock would be bad too
Parent - By Photocat [us] Date 2018-03-29 6:48 AM
I'd rather have a raw foot than a raw bum:laugh:
Parent - By kelly_v Date 2018-03-29 6:41 AM
:shocker!::blush::laugh:

we watched Roseanne the other night too. I also didn't watch it growing up, other than maybe a few episodes here and there. I was doing some reading about the cast and the Sara Chalke who played the lady who wanted to have the surogate actually played Becky for 2-3 seasons in the original series so it was funny she was brought back for this and in one scene Becky was like "hey we look alike". I don't think they look alike but maybe they did back in the day

You’re a real runner now.

I think I'd rather enjoy not joining that club
Parent - - By Photocat [us] Date 2018-03-29 7:45 AM
 It could have been the other club with it in my pants! Those race photos are always hilarious. I feel for them, though:laugh::laugh::laugh:
Parent - By kelly_v Date 2018-03-29 9:03 AM
I don't want to be in that club either :shocker!:

~It's Opening Day!

~137 is our total pre-registered for Saturday's race.  Should be well over $3,000 raised for Camp Quality

~“Baseball is like driving, it’s the one who gets home safely that counts.”

~Still have a hand-full of things I need before we time the race Saturday. Luckily practice is EARLY today so I have some time

~Tummy Ache this morning

~Wheel-measured and marked the course yesterday. At least I got in a 3.1 mile run-ish

I love that baseball quote!

Hope your tummy works things out.

Good way to get in a quick 5k:laugh:
Parent - - By kelly_v Date 2018-03-29 6:44 AM
will the weather be nice for the race?
Parent - By flyguy (Stump Grinder) [us] Date 2018-03-29 6:49 AM
There has only been 2 years out of 13, 14, 15 whatever we've been doing it that has been nice.

Right now forecast is for slight chance of showers before 8am and racetime high of 50
Parent - - By spiritbear [us] Date 2018-03-29 6:59 AM
Race numbers are looking good. Maybe you’ll get close to 200.
Parent - By flyguy (Stump Grinder) [us] Date 2018-03-29 8:27 AM
Fingers crossed!  (I'm hoping for 199 so I don't have to use any of the next series of bib numbers hahahahaha)

--Iowa is still having issues with his stomach. He has another appointment with his primary care next week. I told him to request a referral to a specialist. Then he later tells me that when they did blood work at the ER his white blood cell count was high. Family doc wasn’t concerned. :wtf: Uh, I realize that could be elevated due to stress or fighting an infection but it could also be related to some really serious things too. My confidence level in this doc is zero. :meh:

--The old man that lives across the road from us said that whenever he raises his garage door Sarge comes running over. Tom gives him a treat. Sarge takes it back to our place and lays down in his favorite spot and eats it. About an hour later Sarge goes back to visit Tom and hangs out around his place until about 3 until he comes back home and sits and waits for me.

--Everybody tells us we need to get some pigs to pack the pond so it will seal. Add that to our list of projects. : pbbt:

--Trying to psyche myself up to get appropriately dressed and head in to town for a run. It’s cold, windy and misty. I’m fine with that kind of weather but I typically handle it much better if I get caught in it as opposed to having to start out running in it.

--Coffee with MJ and Ana this weekend.

--Need to reserve a car and book hotel rooms for FL trip. I’ll need to wait until 30 days before on a couple of the hotel rooms because I’m going to use my points and that’s all the further I can book ahead.

So nice of Sarge to be neighborly:grin:

I hope Iowa's doc is helpful and gives him a referral.

Will power makes the runner! Enjoy the feeling of being tougher than everyone else and getting a nice, windy, cold, and wet run in. Beats the treadmill!

So, how does one pick a marathon? Seriously. All I look at is the topo because I want as few hills as possible.

What other things should I consider?
Parent - - By kelly_v Date 2018-03-29 7:46 AM
location (local or do you have to travel. If have to travel, how convenient is it; those chasing 50 states would have different criteria)
course (flat/hills, trail vs road, is there something unique about it that may interest you)
time of year
start time
race size
price

For me it was mostly about location and price. I wanted something easily driveable that wouldn't cost an arm and a leg. I also preferred flat although it wasn't a requirement.
Parent - By Photocat [us] Date 2018-03-29 8:01 AM
Well my mom wants to Half in every state. I'd just like to race in every state. Currently looking at the downhills and pancake flat races. A lot of west coast options. I'm thinking with 6hr run in July I'll be pretty entrenched in a marathon plan. So would think September or October would be prime time to make an attempt. Or switch it to a half:blush::laugh:

Beat the Blerch looks awesome until the first half was uphill:mutmad:

My mom needs a new state so we'll have to travel. And probably won't drive, but it depends.
Parent - - By spiritbear [us] Date 2018-03-29 9:38 AM
Leading Ladies I think is in August. It is a downhill race. South Dakota. You may also want to consider a rail trail race. Deadwood Mickelson Trail (although first half is actually a gentle incline), Virginia Creeper or Frisco (Springfield, MO). They’re all going to be relatively flat. Run for the Ranch in Springfield, MO is also super flat. It’s 8 loops. Lincoln, NE and Tulsa Route 66 are flat races too.

I picked a number of my marathons because of the state. Price was a factor. I’m not going to spend $150+ on a marathon. Just won’t do it. Logistics is another thing to consider--getting to and from the destination, navigating once you’re there or the lodging. Charleston, SC was always on my list but I could never get reasonable travel there.

Obviously, you’ll also need to look at any time limits if that is going to be a concern.
Parent - - By Photocat [us] Date 2018-03-29 10:05 AM
:blush:Yeah, preferably those that state "till every runner finishes" Someone has to be last.: pbbt:

I was supposed to do DMT half a few years ago but was injured. I went with my mom to support her.

Tulsa is on my list. I'll check out those others. I found a website with all the time limits on a lot of races and another with all the topos. Very helpful.

Why do some list the fact that the RD is a 50 Stater? Does that imply a well organized race? Or something else?

Also - thanks for not saying 'if you can't under 6 don't bother'. I went to the marathon board and they are all listing weeks and months like yours. I'm at 12/week. I used to be at 25 back when I was fit and faster. I'll get back there. But still, thanks!
Parent - By spiritbear [us] Date 2018-03-29 10:24 AM
I ran a technical trail marathon that had a 5 1/2 hour cut off. :shocker!: I was sick and didn’t make the time limit (5:43 or something like that) but thankfully they gave me credit for the race. So, it’s important to be aware of any rules each race may have. Many are no time limit or 8 hours. None of the Mainly Marathon events have time limits. You may like those.
