The drive to Milwaukee SUCKED SUCKED SUCKED. It was snowing and I don’t think any road crews had been out yet. Probably 3-5” of snow most of the way.  I was going 45 mph the whole way - glad that I left so early.

4:01:38. 95 laps.

I felt good overall, probably started a bit too quick. Hit a bit of a wall with 25 laps to go and then started cramping up with 8 laps left. I'm happy with my time and enjoyed the experience, though I'm not going to rush into an indoor race anytime soon.

Chalk it up to experience I guess. I don't mind indoor running, but 95 laps totaling 26.2 sounds wretched. Glad you got a time you could be happy with and enjoyed it

Congratulations!
was the track 444m long?

That's what I get too, or 485 yards. He will explain, I'm sure.

Yes, the running track is outside the speedskating oval (400 m) on the ice rink, so it's a weird distance per lap. It's a thin rubbery surface over concrete, one-way only, and occasionally interrupted by a zamboni crossing. I used to live about half a mile from there & used the track frequently in horrible weather (35 and thunderstorms...bleh).

It's the only race that I'll probably ever run that has a "Zamboni Crossing" sign on the course.

They had pulled the Zambonis into the center of the facility so that they didn't need to cross the track during the event.

Congrats --how did  the experience compare to a  car show ?

Insane! In an awesome way, of course. Congrats.

Congratulations! Nice effort and time and I don't blame you for not rushing into another indoor race soon, at least a marathon.

Wow that is a lot of laps.  I bet it felt like a marathon

I think that's a pretty impressive achievement. Yuck on the drive - that sounds scary

Wow. Congrats!!!   I can't even imagine driving in those conditions, much less following it up with the insane athletic endeavor that came after it.

:shocker!: Nice work!  95 laps indoors sounds crazy hard, and I'm someone who likes 12 and 24-hour races!

The laps seemed to fly by at first. I was covering them in 2:15-2:24 for quite some time. That wasn't so much the case later in the event. I slowed to around 2:40-2:50 per lap later in the run and had a few 3:10-3:20s for laps where I had a gel.

What was really weird about it was that I had virtually no idea of how many miles I had run, I was solely going by laps. The lap count and lap splits were clearly shown on a monitor at each lap so that was easy but there was no mile indicators. It was kind of neat.

Results are up...

Official time 4:01:35
Overall place 26/75
Gender place 20/30 (stupid fast young guys)
Age group place 7/19

Not bad.

> (stupid fast young guys)

I hate it when those fuckers show up.

This must be the same location that I recently saw on television for some sort of pre-Olympics speed skating competition.

Yes, the trials were there.

A couple of guys (not Olympian) were training during the race. Man, they fly over the ice.

What was the surface like? is it a running track or concrete?
I would think running on a track would give you a slight advantage bounce-wise and better shock absorption :wtf:
Parent - - By The Beard (is wearing Arm Panties) [us] Date 2018-02-12 6:46 AM
Basically concrete. The track material was hard and thin. Not bouncy at all. I’m pretty sore this morning.
Parent - - By blazer85 [us] Date 2018-02-12 11:05 AM
Did they have you change directions at times?  The one in MN has the runners do that in an effort to be kinder to the muscles (I think that is the reason).
Parent - By The Beard (is wearing Arm Panties) [us] Date 2018-02-12 11:35 AM
Nope. It was left turns all day.

It was only a three lane track so there really wouldn't have been room for it. Runners were told to run in the outermost lane. Slow runners, those taking walk breaks were supposed to be in the outside lane. The middle lane was for those running a decent clip. The inner lane was for passing. I was worried that it would feel crowded but it never did.
Parent - - By Mickey [us] Date 2018-02-12 9:22 PM
Congrats! That track is hard to deal with on a short workout - a marathon would be mind-numbing!
Parent - By The Beard (is wearing Arm Panties) [us] Date 2018-02-13 3:25 PM
There were a fair number of people that ran the half on Saturday and the full on Sunday.

No thanks.
