Do you play game cards? If so, what and how often?

10.2 miles with 6x 4 minutes hard/ 2 minutes easy
Also, no, I'm not smart enough to play card games. I can never keep all the rules straight in my head and end up getting frustrated.
(I like wool!)

I used to play card games a lot, with friends and family. Almost never nowadays since my friends and family don't.
Running, it was 5 miles along the river at lunchtime in icy crunchy snow left over from Sunday's snow-ice-rain.

Yes. Cribbage, Quiddler, Five Crowns, Gin, Hell, Uno, Solitaire, Exploding Kittens, Cards Against Humanity, etc. usually multiple times per week. Some games far more rare than others, Hell for instance is pretty much only played around Thanksgiving or Christmas when her family gets together. Many years ago there was a regular Friday night poker game I took part in.
No. I think cards are boring unless they are gift cards.
I did weights class and was completely exhausted afterwards. I sleep like a rock after this class.
Today I plan a treadmill run of approximately 4 miles.
Drinking makes card fun.
It would be more fun drinking and using gift cards.
When I start drinking and using gift cards, I end up using credit cards.
Have a good run!
I survived without death from boredom.
10 miles with a few hills this morning, will go to boxing class tonight.
Since my kids were little, whenever we went out to eat, we would play cards (Crazy 8s) while we waited for our food. This tradition started before we all had iPhones, so it is a habit and we still do this. Sure, we call each other an idiot if someone plays a bad card and we argue, but we are interacting and I love our together time. We now typically play Rummy. When Blazergirl is home from school.....so we have four players......we make time to play Euchre for an hour or so. This is a Midwestern card game and luckily, have found some other transplants here in Dallas to play with on occasion.
I think it would be refreshing to see a family playing cards in this day. Nice tradition!
I can not count the number of times other parents come over and tell me it is nice we are playing cards instead of being glued to phones and they wish their family did that. Uh......take away your kids' phones and start carrying cards!
I’m going to do this! We have never given our kids phones at dinner but they are getting past the coloring pages. Cards would be great!
Nice 10 miles!

10 Miles with 7 @ MP.
Started out feeling crappy, but somewhere along the line I started feeling really good! I felt great when I finished.
Love that. Getting a wild rice stuffing recipe in the crockpot took longer than I thought, so now I'm late for work.
Also behind in packing and getting moving stuff done. So have a great one everybody, gotta roll!
Oh, I don't play cards. Played a little poker in college, we would play for pennies or quarters, depending on whether we got paid from a shit job recently
. But I had a terrible poker face, especially after a few beers. I did try Cards Against Humanity, that game is kind of fun.
Getting Stuff in the crockpot is the part that makes it hard.
Sounds like a good run!!
That game can be fun if you're with the right people
Easy 5 miles in 25*. It was a beautiful morning and it's getting light at the end of my runs now!
The Nabisco plant must have been baking this morning since it smelled like cookies on that side of town.
I don't play cards very much anymore. In college we played Euchre (but I hardly even know her!
) and Spades. I used to play Canasta with my family during summer breaks during high school. And a long time ago we used to play Pit as a family too.
That reminds me of growing up in Buffalo and the General Mills place and how it would smell like cereal.
Cheerios! I would be driving near the plants and smell cheerios!
On one of my routes, we pass a bread shop. It always smells so good.
That Nabisco plant is a killer. I've been smelling the baked goods there for many years.
I like the idea of smelling cookies while I run.
8 screw shoe miles (3 with the dog). My longest run in a month.
The hammy tightness started about 6 miles in but it was fairly minor. I would just stop every 1/2 mile or so and shake it out. At this point I am thinking I probably have some scar tissue in there so maybe a massage is in order.
As I was running with Bogey we came up on a spot on the side of the trail where the snow was scrapped away down to the weeds. He put on the brakes and started smelling everything. I glanced at it and thought that a fox or something must have snatched up a mouse or rabbit. Then I looked again and noticed the pattern in the snow was like a small snow angel. Then I realized that the impression was from an owl that grabbed some breakfast. I could see a perfect impression of the wings and tail of the owl in the snow.
The rest of the run was uneventful.
Very cool on the owl!
And YAY for the hammy!
Yeah! for the longest run in a month!
The owl sounds really cool!
Glad you had a good run!!!
I play in a couple of poker games. One is the neighborhood game we refer to as “nerd poker”. I’m the heavy drinker at 1 beer and we play from 8:30-10:30 once a month on a weeknight and end promptly at 10:30. The most I’ve ever won is $15 and the most I’ve ever lost is $10 - in an entire night. The other one is a more raucous game which takes place on Friday nights in the space above the host’s garage when the host gets around to organizing it. More booze, we usually play past midnight until whenever everyone gets tired, some people smoke some green stuff (makes it easier to win money off them), etc. My highest win/loss for a night is around $100 ahead / $60 behind.
6.3 miles this morning.
lol, "nerd poker." Both games sound fun!
HA! The raucous one sounds more fun!
I'm not overly shrewd when I drink and would probably lose a lot of money.
4 miles in lovely crisp weather (25).
I used to play cards some. I used to do a lot of things... then I had a baby
Ran 6 last night. Try for 8 or so tonight.
Looks like an all day snow event tomorrow, so except for shoveling once I'm home, there will likely be no other work out.
When we were little we would play card games..kings corners, crazy 8's, concentration, slap jack. My mom and brother had a regular routine of playing rummy.
We also play King's Corner. Blazerman is NOTORIOUS for missing plays in this game.
you're in upstate NY, right? So much snow....
Hope you have a good run!
Looks like it will be a day off today
Had intentions of swimming this morning but I got involved with some stuff at home this morning & the oven installer is scheduled to be here early this afternoon. NBD.
Busy workout morning tomorrow with 6am & 11am (as a sub) indoor cycling classes.
The oven saga continues
2018-02-06 12:15 PM
I forgot about the card question. So no, hardly ever. I think the last time I played cards was with my DW a couple of summers ago when there was a neighborhood-wide power outage.
Is your oven functional now?
2018-02-06 6:07 PM
Yes! Had to be on @ 500 degrees for about an hour to burn off the "new" smell. Going to take some getting used to! Apparently it takes some time, quite some time, to pre-heat but it signals when it gets to the set cooking temp (display changes from "PhT" to the set temp). ...and it has this fan that continues to run (at least it's quiet) after the oven is off until it cools down.
5 miles - it was hard today / cold and gray weather
I enjoy cards. In college, my roommates and I played the hell out of skip bo. My kids enjoy uno.
Hey, you got it done!
My sister in law introduced us to Skip Bo over Thanksgiving. It's fun!
Our college card game was 99 (very similar to Uno) but mainly because of the drinking requirement.
Funny, I saw the game you mentioned and we used to play that as a drinking game.
6 miles with some hill repeats.
My running has been a little “off” for some time. Lingering niggles have altered my stride and I feel like I’m clunking along instead of gliding. I saw my ART Dr a month ago and she found my hips way out of alignment and worked some magic to get them back in line. Things finally started feeling better over the weekend and I did a long run and didn’t feel any pain after. I decided it was time to throw in something more than an easy run. Our local marathon is a double loop course and has a hill just after mile 1 that is repeated at mile 15 and that second time is where things start getting rough for most of the runners. I went to that hill and did 5 repeats. The hill is about 1/3 of a mile and not too steep so a good test. Overall, things went well so I feel that I can continue with the hill workout. It was about 60 degrees when I was out there so pretty nice.
We are in a card group that meets the first Friday of every month. The full group is 8 so the games are built around that number. Our usual game is Up and Down the River but we mix other things in. This past Friday we hosted and our new pastor introduced us to Shanghai Rum.
That's nice to hear your running is feeling better
2018-02-06 2:44 PM
2018-02-06 2:43 PM
It’s not as bad as the one at mile 12 / 25, but it is rough that second time.
i am always amazed to hear all these different card games that i have never heard of.
glad to hear things are feeling better!
Up and Down the River? I'm kind of afraid to ask the origins of that name.
2018-02-07 9:13 AM
I guess the name comes from the fact you start the first round with 7 cards (it all depends on the number of players) and drop down by one each round until you have a hand with just one card. Then you go back “up the river” and finish with a hand of 7 cards. I had never heard of it until we joined this card group so it may have other names like most card games do.
Glad the hills aren't causing you any pain!!
Your pastor sounds like a LOT more fun than my granddad who was also a pastor
, a very stern one Yeah, I played a lot of cards with my grandmother, but it was always when Granddad was out of the house.
6 snowy miles with Molly
Online poker because it's legal in my country
Sometimes! In 2018 I'm doing really well but that means I'm up about $150. I hit good and bad streaks though and never play for much.
during high school, my friends and i played a lot of hearts and spades. I haven't played in years and years.
when i visited my friend in San Diego last year, i played crazy 8s with her kids.
I had to be taught how to play again.
met running friends at track this morning!
one of the gals had slipped and fallen saturday (on a boat.... ouch!) and may have broken her elbow. She told her husband she was going to join us and "just walk" but ended up keeping to the easy miles as we did a workout.
the track was good. I finally felt like i had some speed back. just over 5 miles total with 2 x 400, 1 x 800, 2 x 400. I was avoiding strength work with back/hip issues but will ease back (har har) into that this evening.
DH made chocolate chip cookies and a italian plum galette yesterday. it's a good thing i've been bringing running miles back up.
Sounds like a good workout!
Ouch on your friends elbow!
Nice of you to learn crazy 8's! Kids love that.
The desserts sound like good motivation to add mileage
5.5 miles at a good pace. There was a lot of sweating, and I worried that I might have a fever. When I got back and checked the outside temp, it was 73 degrees and probably humid since we've been socked in by clouds for days. That would explain the sweat though.
I enjoy cards. I used to play with my grandmother whenever we would visit. Mostly she liked canasta, but if we could get enough people, she really liked whist, too. When I was a ski bum, we could play poker all night. It was especially fun because our crew had people from all over, and they all had their own crazy-ass version of poker. Dealer's choice, so you never knew what was coming

3.4 miles. Awful footing. It was like running in flour.
