I can’t believe that it was 49* a couple of mornings ago. It was -3* when I ran today.   Full ice beard. 12.1 miles.

Nice going with the cold.  I would have been home with coffee. (There should be a picture of your beard.)

Talk about a bait and switch. :mutmad:

I ran one mile as a warm up prior to meeting up with some guys to do some fast running. They are insanely faster than I am. I managed to hang with them during the two mile warmup, which was my tempo pace. Then they were going for four miles of tempo & they left me in their dust. I did manage to pick up the pace for a couple of miles but my right glute let me know that I was pushing it just a bit too much. So I cut it short, jogged back to where we had started and it didn't take long for them to come back around. I did a fairly decent job of hanging with them for three quarters of a mile during the cool down, which again was a fast pace for me. Hoping that running some with these crazy fast guys will help me out.

Running with faster people is a great way to get faster, but it is a bit discouraging at times too.
Parent - By Xtreme Taper Date 2018-01-13 1:14 PM
Oh oh oh... 2 pennies!

Yeah, my best friend can pretty much jog at my cruise pace anymore. Good luck with the faster running. I need to start that up soon.

I found a quarter today and only picked it up because of you.

Nice!!!  I need more time with the fast guys around here, but most of them run trails, which I've sworn off for the foreseeable future.

Good run ice Beard!

Seven miles for me and the Lady on the trails out at the lake. Apparently the ice on the lake is no longer safe. They had signs posted to stay off the ice. After a run in short sleeves last night it was back to layers as temps were in the upper 20's with cold gusty wind. Parts of the route were sheltered from the wind so actually quite pleasant. Squishy and muddy in places from the snow melt and rain yesterday. Best run I've had in quite some time, not in terms of speed, but in overall feel.

Glad you had a great run!

Best run in quite some time :cool:

I imagine an ice beard is more annoying than ice ponytail....which I hate.
Parent - By LDR (100 Mile Stud) [us] Date 2018-01-13 2:52 PM
A friend here was telling me that a young lady's hair got iced up and actually broke off during a race last weekend :shocker!::shocker!:
Parent - By Schantzie [us] Date 2018-01-13 3:22 PM
-3 :shocker!:  That is an amazing run!
Parent - By triplejake (The Vampire Lestat) [us] Date 2018-01-13 3:29 PM
Just 3.6 miles for me today.  It was icy in the morning, so a bit late when I finally got out there.
- - By old turtle Date 2018-01-13 11:24 AM
9.5 miles for me. 47 degrees at the start and 45 degrees at the end. Winter is returning.
Parent - By noquitter [us] Date 2018-01-13 11:55 AM
I'd kill for that kind of weather. It was 12 which seemed warm compared to last week.: pbbt:
Parent - - By Xtreme Taper Date 2018-01-13 1:11 PM
Nice, but please .5 more next time ok?!  : pbbt:

And yes, boo hiss to the return of winter.

 (I was actually aiming for 10.25 - didn't happen.)
Parent - By blazer85 [us] Date 2018-01-13 1:54 PM
Still good temps for running, so that s good.
Parent - By Schantzie [us] Date 2018-01-13 2:30 PM
It's kind of mean for the temp to drop as the run progressed :mutmad::mutmad:

Nice :cool::cool:

Made it 5.6 with the Saturday group by tacking on a little extra. Of course I tacked on a little extra with goal of getting to 6 so I ended up going back out for .7 and made it to 6.3.

It was cold but once you are out there, no reason not to keep going.

I agree about the cold.....once you are "used to it", you may as well keep going!
Parent - By LDR (100 Mile Stud) [us] Date 2018-01-13 2:48 PM
does one get "used to it?"

asking for a friend
Parent - By Schantzie [us] Date 2018-01-13 2:29 PM
I can talk myself into additional fractions of a mile, but for some reason, not entire miles.  Good for you for toughing it out in the cold!
Parent - - By LDR (100 Mile Stud) [us] Date 2018-01-13 2:49 PM
I talked myself into heading just one 1/2 mile beyond my original turnaround.  Once I turned back into a bit of a crosswind and had snow stinging my face, I was glad I hadn't allowed myself to go any further beyond my original goal
Parent - By noquitter [us] Date 2018-01-13 3:44 PM
You turned around just in time it would seem.
- - By Schantzie [us] Date 2018-01-13 1:04 PM
Got in my LR of 16.25, 46 degrees with 11 mph wind from the north :mutmad: As with many runs, the most difficult part was simply the first mile   I started with in shorts, l/s shirt, gloves and an ear band.  When I stepped outside the pick up, I decided to add a s/s shirt too.  After 4 miles, I was able to give up the second shirt.  It took a lot longer to give up the gloves.  Props to DH for riding his bike in the cold and keeping me company.
Parent - - By Xtreme Taper Date 2018-01-13 1:13 PM
Dang, that sounds cold for down there. Nice work on the LR... it's done!
Parent - By Schantzie [us] Date 2018-01-13 2:25 PM
You are right about the colder temps.  I know I can't complain too much with the conditions many of you-all endure, but our summers here are absolutely inhumane, especially for running.   In return, I expect a nice, temperate winter.  Is it asking so much?
Parent - - By blazer85 [us] Date 2018-01-13 1:57 PM
I am amazed by the fact he bikes with you! not happening here.
Parent - By Schantzie [us] Date 2018-01-13 2:22 PM
He'd go crazy just sitting around.... that's something that I never have trouble doing
Parent - By LDR (100 Mile Stud) [us] Date 2018-01-13 2:47 PM
Congrats on the LR.
Parent - By noquitter [us] Date 2018-01-13 7:20 PM
Good job on that long run! It's nice when someone keeps you company.

1 walking mile at the gym + hip & shoulder exercises.

Had almost simultaneous conversations with some folks who have ridden in my indoor cycling classes.  One of my 6am riders and one of my 6pm riders, who are elementary school teachers...at the same school, told me they are both coming to the 9:30 am class I'm teaching on Monday as a sub...since school is closed for the MLK holiday.

It's 30 degrees colder than it was 24 hours ago and will be worse tomorrow. Winter : pbbt:
Parent - By blazer85 [us] Date 2018-01-13 1:57 PM
That is a big temperature drop!

Yep on the winter stuff. Yesterday we ate lunch outside. Today the high was 45. Tomorrow the high will be 38...and so it goes.
Parent - By noquitter [us] Date 2018-01-13 7:21 PM
I don't start counting warm days until March. Even then it gives one false hope.
- - By blazer85 [us] Date 2018-01-13 2:02 PM
26 and breezy when I started and 35 when I finished my 17 miler today. It was sunny, so it was actually a nice run. 1 mile by myself, then I picked up and dropped off various skinny blondes until mile 15.....the last 2 miles solo were super slow.

When running wth the final blonde, we spent 3 miles trying to recall the name of the book, The DaVinci Code..  Don't you hate when you can't remember something so trivial and it drives you crazy?!
Parent - By Schantzie [us] Date 2018-01-13 2:27 PM
Nice LR!  Looks like you're back in the game!!
Parent - By noquitter [us] Date 2018-01-13 7:21 PM

6 miles   Only my 2nd run of the year   County Line Rd wasn't too bad, but I had to pick my spots. :meh:

I hear gunshots as I type this.  I hope it isn't the turkeys I saw in the field behind the cemetery.  They were huge!
Parent - - By Schantzie [us] Date 2018-01-13 3:24 PM
Run, turkey, run!!!!

What's keeping you from running?  Is it weather or something else?
Parent - - By LDR (100 Mile Stud) [us] Date 2018-01-13 6:40 PM
I had two issues that developed on my 12-hr run Dec 30th, so I was determined to try to rest for at least a week.  I did do 10 miles on Tues, and the pain was tolerable, but not gone.  But honestly, the ice, snow, cold, winds, and damp, dreary days are playing just as big a role in keeping me indoors.
Parent - By blazer85 [us] Date 2018-01-13 8:25 PM
All those things are helpful when you know you need time off.
Parent - - By noquitter [us] Date 2018-01-13 7:22 PM
Hopefully you will see the turkeys on a future run.

4.5 miles for me today.  Trying to ramp it back up.

It was in the high 50’s when I started my run this morning. It’s now 25 and it’s supposed to go down to 9 tonight.

How this played out for this morning’s run: 13 outdoor miles, then I got soaked by some rain and the temperature started to drop rapidly. So I finished the run with 3 miles on the treadmill. Total 16 miles.
Parent - By LDR (100 Mile Stud) [us] Date 2018-01-13 6:42 PM
Good job getting the miles in.  The temps look frigid for the next 10 days here.  Hope they pass more quickly for you.
Parent - By noquitter [us] Date 2018-01-13 7:23 PM
Man that's tough. I hope you weren't still cold on the TM.

75 minutes of spinning today. Tomorrow I have a 5K:shocker!:, it's supposed to be really cold and windy. Why do I sign up for these things? Today I took my daughter to the mall, and, for the first time in her almost 18 years on earth, she loved it! She feels so good about herself, she's already lost a little weight and is excited to start exercising next week. She was shopping for clothes and make-up, something she has never ever wanted to do. I had such a great time just watching her.:laugh: I am so thrilled with how much the surgery she had has benefited her self-esteem- and it was not even a month ago!

Have a great weekend everybody!
