I took longer getting ready than usual and the roads were slick so I ran a bit shorter than usual. 4 miles for me today.
Parent - - By Xtreme Taper Date 2018-01-10 7:36 AM
Redraider is going to crush you!!

For me, nothing yet. I skipped the gym last night (work thing) so will do that today and will try to match your 4 miles this evening.

When I am not meeting someone in the morning, I lollygag so much, it is a wonder I ever get out of the house to run.

8.35 miles with 12x 1 minute on, 1 minute off. Felt pretty good and was almost running somewhat not-so-slow on the faster sections. Sunny and warm today; I was overdressed in a t-shirt and jacket (and shorts).

Another moderating day out there, about 40F, but I seem to have caught a head cold so took the day off. I'll probably be out tomorrow if it stays out of my chest.

I did get the Lady out for 4 on the local trail this evening. We do figure 8 loop-de-loops to get an appropriate amount of time since the area is small. Fairly warm I guess, 40's, but felt chilled as the woods is still mostly snow covered.
Parent - By Spingoddess [us] Date 2018-01-10 5:39 PM
Today did feel damp and chilly.:meh:
- - By classicsnerd [us] Date 2018-01-10 7:48 AM
so I went crazy yesterday and ran 5 miles on the TM instead of 4 :shocker!: today will be only 2, to make up for the big day yesterday, plus yoga.

Yes, adding and extra TM mile is a bit out there! I am trying to get back to doing some yoga moves for my creaky body.
- - By blazer85 [us] Date 2018-01-10 7:56 AM
5 miles. My left quad was super cramped for the first mile and I almost stopped, but it loosened up.

Update on my blather from yesterday about the woman who posted on my neighborhood's Facebook page complaining that the bike path was muddy......the day after it rained hard for several hours. She wanted to know who was responsible for "taking care of" this matter. Well, after many more morons complained on this Facebook post about mud after a rain, this matter has been added to monthly HOA meeting agenda so it may be discussed.:laugh: I thought I lived in a lovely town.....instead, I live in hell.

I believe the entire path must be dug up and re-engineered!

Hope the cramp is nothing.

I taught cycling class this morning & did hip & shoulder exercises afterwards.

Running club meeting at 8:00 tonight.  We're having a book author come & talk about her book & her journey from "a minivan driving mother of 4 young children to a triathlete", Women Who Tri   A women's only Tri club began in the town she lives in (semi-local here in South Jersey) and within a few years grew to 900 members!  While many but not every member lives in the town, its population is less than 1,700.  Should be interesting.  We have many runners in our club who also do triathlons and we've tried to promote the meeting widely to other running & tri clubs and on social media.  We'll see how the turnout goes.

Heat wave here today!  The high temp will be almost 40!

10 miles before work.

It's time to get back on schedule so even though one of the guys is traveling home from Disney today (he ran the Dopey Challenge over the weekend) I got the other guy to join me this morning. It was his longest run since we ran Kiawah about a month ago so we took it pretty easy. I joined the Fleet Feet group last night for their speedwork in the park so my legs were a little tired. The speedwork was interesting as we ran along a path with spotty lighting so I had to watch my footing in some spots. I think the bigger loop was about an 800 and the smaller loop was about 400 and we did 4 of each. Not a bad starting point to get back into some speedwork, but I would have liked 1-2 more loops of each.
Parent - - By classicsnerd [us] Date 2018-01-10 1:39 PM
The dopey challenge sounds nutty!
Parent - - By nooner [us] Date 2018-01-10 2:07 PM
It is nutty!!

You run a 5K, 10K, half and full marathon over the course of 4 days so it's about 49 miles. The hard part is waking up before 3 AM all 4 days to get to the start line on time. Oh, and they charge you about $560 for the entry fees.
Parent - By Arimathea [us] Date 2018-01-10 2:35 PM
Even worse if you live on the West Coast which means you have to wake up at a time your body is saying "it is not even midnight yet!"
Parent - By classicsnerd [us] Date 2018-01-10 3:51 PM
That race fee :shocker!::shocker!: no way
Parent - By Xtreme Taper Date 2018-01-10 5:04 PM
Belated condolences on your father.

I like speedwork on estimated distances.

Did my cardio/strength last night.  I had done a 30-min run in the morning, which I don't normally do on Tuesdays, and definitely felt the extra workout.  But, got in a good routine nonetheless.  Coming out of the building, I discovered that the temperature had dropped sharply and there was a nasty strong wind blowing, and I really wanted to take the bus home rather than walk (about a 35-minute walk home).  But then I thought, "I MUST GET TO 10,000 STEPS! TEAM 2 IS COUNTING ON ME!  I MUST WALK HOME."  But I really wanted to take the bus.  So I looked at my step counter, and lo, it said 10,502 steps for the day.  So I leapt onto the bus, guilt-free!

Had a prolonged argument with the bed magnet this morning.  It was cold: -23C with a windchill of -33C (that's -10F and -27F, respectively).  My usual cutoff is -32C, including when it's that cold with the windchill.  So part of me was arguing that I was tired, and it was too cold to run anyway, and I should just stay in bed.  I got up and looked outside and verified that it was indeed windy.  I sighed and felt sorry for myself.  BUT!  The "Must train for half marathon" side of my brain finally won out and I went for a 30-minute run in fresh snow.  Wasn't that bad, actually.  : pbbt:
Parent - By Beastie Girl [us] Date 2018-01-10 10:49 AM
Nice job getting out there! I've been wimping out with the bike to nowhere lately, but you are right, it's never that bad when you actually get out there!
Parent - By Arimathea [us] Date 2018-01-10 2:34 PM
Good job beating the arse anchor!
Parent - By Xtreme Taper Date 2018-01-10 5:06 PM
Ok, you win for the coldest cutoff.   :shiver:

The magnetic force for those temps in my case would be a bazillion teslas.

Yoga!
It was so great today! I poured buckets and felt very challenged. I wore my garmin in there and burned 319 calories. That's about 75 more than normal. Wow!

8.25 at our nearby National Wildlife Refuge, Santa Ana.  It's a great place to run, except it's very lonely.  I hardly see anyone except Border Patrol agents there, and today, I didn't even see them.  DH came along and got in his steps walking while I did my run (the refuge doesn't allow bikes :mutmad:) He saw quite a few birds and some javelinas.  I saw a lot of birds with my peripheral vision, but I had to force myself not to look because that's how I trip and fall :meh:  When we finished, I got out my binoculars, and wouldn't you know, we couldn't find any :wtf:

It was another 45 degree morning, so shorts and long sleeves and again, no gloves :shocker!:.  Gawd, that first mile was chilly.  So was part of the second mile .  Then I finally got in my groove and the miles, 8 of them, clipped by pretty well.  No stopping or slowing, so a good, sustained, kick-ass effort.  Tomorrow is supposed to be awfully windy, so I'm glad to have the miles in the bank today and look forward to being a sloth on Thursday.  LR will probably be Saturday.
Parent - By cowboyjunkie Date 2018-01-10 1:04 PM
That sounds like a cool place to run and walk.

1 mile + about 200' then my left hammy really tightened up. So, I shut it down, will take tomorrow off and see how it feels on Friday.

Starting to build up for Umstead? You are doing that this year, right?
Parent - By cowboyjunkie Date 2018-01-10 8:24 PM
Yeah. Doing Beast 50 miler next month as a training run. Trying to get some consistent longer runs in on the weekend.
- - By Arimathea [us] Date 2018-01-10 2:34 PM
I did manage to get a second run in last night, 3 or so, and 3.5 this morning. Cold and clear now. And an unexpected 1.2 walk because the train stopped at the MacArthur Park station (enjoy the earworm, folks) since there was a train broken down at the next station which was mine. We were all told to get off and that we should wait on the other side of the platform for a train. I decided not to wait, hiked up the stairs, considered taking a bus, then decided it's not that far so I could walk. And did.

Good running. Explain to us about this California cold?!
Parent - - By Arimathea [us] Date 2018-01-10 5:21 PM
Comparatively cold. Nice, actually.

And remember there is a lot of California. You have heard of a rather ill-fated group known as the Donner Party?
Parent - By Xtreme Taper Date 2018-01-10 5:26 PM
Yes... I lived in the high desert once for a number of years. It really did get cold up there on some winter days. Snowed a few times.

Hey, when did the forum come back up? I did 2 back to back 45 minute spin classes this morning, ran 8 miles easy yesterday. Loving the spin bike, but am having some trouble getting my shoes to fit right.:wtf: Then walked a million dogs:roll:, came back home and sat my butt down in my comfy chair. I'm still here.

Today I lifted weights and did some half-hearted intervals on the ET.
