Ran 6 last night. Not too bad as the winds were just picking up when I was finishing the run. I would have run longer, but the footing was kinda tricky in spots. My road hokas don't have much traction. Kinda wish I had brought my trails shoes.
Rest day today. Massage this afternoon.
My kitty Grady came up and nuzzled me this morning and then boop, the alarm went off. I was awake anyway, but her timing was perfect!
Fed the birds before coming to work. Amazing how they can survive in these conditions.

Impressed that you got out there in the bomb cyclone
3 miles for me this morning.
I was a little overdressed. Not cold at all but I am so worried about slipping and tearing my hamstring again. Very slow going.
Good job on the 3!
Enjoy your rest day!

Birds are tough! Enjoy the rest day.
Gym action planned for this evening, maybe some bike to nowhere, arc trainer, and egads a mile or two on the TM.
Walked the dogs at lunch out and it wasn't too bad... when the wind wasn't blowing.
Frozen lake run on the trails tomorrow is the plan with my partner in crime.
Not the TM!
Probably not, but it's possible. Heck I might just stay home after work and take a nap!
I'm looking at 16 miles on the tm Sunday if it doesn't warm up and/or get less windy, but I'd rather do that than be outside in this now.
5 miles this morning. The roads are a little more narrow than usual with the snow banks. And stupid me forgot to wear a reflective vest! But the worst part was the invasion of the “runner’s sanctuary” (Comm Ave carriage road) by some giant plows. I mean...I know they’re the ones who clear the carriage lane...but why did they need to take a break with their convoy of monster trucks blocking the entire lane? And then why did they have to start moving, but super-slow? :spoiledrunner: I couldn’t run on the carriage lane for fear of one of the drivers not seeing me and then turning me into a pancake beneath the wheel of his monster truck. I ended up running on the main roadway and it was kind of terrifying.
A runner in Connecticut, near Doughboy, was killed last year when one of those giant snowplows didn't see him.
Be super careful! This weather is why the good lord invented treadmills!

Believe me, I'm incredibly careful. The last thing in the world I want to do is leave my kids f**king orphaned because of my stupidity. I literally stopped running for about 2 minutes while the monster trucks decided what they were doing.

13¢ (4 coins)
56º overcast with occasional light rain at 1345
(I like wool!)

Yep it was kind of freezing but my run at lunchtime was short with a break to pick up our office birthday luncheon meal towards the end. 3.5 miles in shorts with a few you're f'ing nuts
looks to make it worthwhile. Mrs. flamus agreed that I'm f'ing nuts after I told her I ran today, and I didn't even tell her that it was in shorts. It actually was quite refreshing.
I think today sounds like a great day for a rest.
Rest day. Actually beautiful here but still, I rest.
2018-01-05 12:41 PM
I love rest days. They are my favourite part of working out.
Walked a mile, did shoulder & hip exercises, swam 1200 meters...all inside at the gym
It was 9° here when I got up this morning
Supposed to be progressively worse the next two days with a low of 0° for Sunday morning
Things start to improve here temp-wise Sunday.

Chilly Cheeks 12k trail race is up here in Reading on Sunday. Thankfully I am not in trail racing shape! Still, it might be fun. I ran it one year in crisp 0 degree temps and wore shorts. Ha. Those were my hardcore days however.
We are supposed to get more snow Monday
2018-01-05 4:23 PM
10% - 20% chance late Monday afternoon into the overnight...but what does the weather app on my phone know?
This winter is really being ruined with all this cold weather. Thank goodness for gyms!
SDO running. Did circuit training at the boxing gym this morning followed with just 10 minutes on the elliptical. It is always a fun crowd at that class....two were my son's 6th grade teachers and one is close friend. We all whine together.
My boss made me meet him for breakfast this morning so we could do my annual review which went like this......"If 2018 is like 2017, then I will be tickled." That was my entire review.
That's the way to do an annual review!
2018-01-05 12:39 PM
And you got free breakfast, score!
2018-01-05 4:24 PM
Good job! Really!!!!!
My boss tends to give me feedback when things go wrong and when things go well. In between not so much. There are not really any surprises come review time. I think if people communicate like they are supposed to, reviews are kind of silly.
Most likely a rest day unless I feel motivated to bike to nowhere tonight.
45 minutes on the bike to nowhere last night while watching Psych. DH and I go to the bike shop tomorrow to pick up his new bike!
He has decided to try a triathlon this year, and all he has now is a mountain bike (which is hella loud on the bike trainer
), so we bought him a road bike. I was going to get a new bike too, but the bike shop owner instead convinced me to bring my bike in so he could look at it and see if it was in good shape, and if it is then he would recommend maybe switching out some components to give it a refresh instead of buying a whole new bike if I don't actually need it.
I definitely like this guy! Elliot at Ridgewood Cycle, for the NJ locals.
Did you watch the Psych Christmas movie or series? I love Psych!!!
We watched the movie over break, and we have been DVRing a bunch of episodes. There was a New Year’s Day Psych Marathon so we have plenty more to watch!

Seriously. It's only 70F and it's almost noon.
Just had my first complete eye exam since I was under 18
(48 on Sunday)
I have slight farsightedness and an astigmatism in the right eye. Bifocals are on the way.
Good move on the bifocals. I could smack the eye doc who discouraged me from getting them, suggested separate reading glasses instead- so now I never have the right glasses when I need them.
I need new ones anyway, and I am so insisting on bifocals, or whatever they call the new kind with no line now.

I followed the more common path of resorting to reading glasses until I finally had to go to the eye doctor.
I did Insanity again today at lunch and it kicked my butt
I've been spending the rest of the day avoiding work by instead creating and refining a handy dandy budget spreadsheet I created to tend to our family's finances, as per my New Year's Resolution.
60 minute endurance spin class. It was tough, but also an exercise in maintaining a specific heart rate zone. It was fun, and interesting to see that in spite of the buckets of sweat from the workout, my effort (HR) wasn't near what running at a comfortably hard pace is.
I walked 12 dogs today
, and if I didn't double up with all of them, they wouldn't have all gotten done. I was pretty warm in my husband's winter coat and my fleece tights under fleece pants, except for my fingers- dang, I remember skiing for hours in bitter cold as a kid, and I don't know how TF I did it- an hour outside today and I had to wrap my hands around a hot coffee for a while.
Time to make sausage and Melissa Clark's recipe for Roasted Cinnamon Potatoes. TGIF!

I stayed inside and lifted. Inverted rows are kicking my lats! Or something.
5.25 in 52 degrees and only a slight wind from the north. NO GLOVES
Really sore from yesterday's work out. Busy, busy day!
52°! I am so jealous! I don't even want to run the garbage to the curb tonight, it's so cold.
3.2 this morning, solo, and 6.16 on the TM at lunch. Still holding to the eating plan. This weekend will be the test of Dry Veganuary.
4.3 TM miles and 30 min of yoga. 5/5 on my January challenge!
