Welcome to day 2 of 2018.  Good golly it's cold!!  It's 30 degrees colder in Kentucky than in Anchorage, Alaska right now.

Post away...

I got up at 4:00, drank a cup of coffee, put on my superhero running outfit then walked out into the -2F air.  Everything warmed up except my fingers which got colder until mile 4 then went numb.  Ran a total of 5 miles.

It's a teacher PD (professional development) today.  Loads of fun.  Kids come back to school tomorrow.

Melissa's grandmother passed away yesterday.  She had been weak and not in good health the past two years.  My kids were fortunate to have known their great-grandparents.

I am glad I don't have to work outside today.  Thankful for a warm building.

well, have fun at school.

I'm sorry for your loss.  How old was Melissa's grandmother?

sometimes I put hothands in  my gloves.
Parent - - By Kymoose [us] Date 2018-01-02 6:35 AM
Thanks.  She was in her mid-80s.  Melissa's grandparents on her dad's side are ages 98 and 96 and live at home taking care of each other.

I need to get those hothands.  I used them once for a January marathon.

I finally found mittens that keep my hands warm.  They are fleece lined wool with a thinsulate layer in between.  I've seen them from $10-$65 so shop well.  I paid $12.  And after yesterday I can attest they are good to 20 below.

name please of gloves
Parent - By dnaff [us] Date 2018-01-02 7:38 AM
no name brand.  I've seen them at REI, Dick's sporting goods, Walmart, and Macy's.  Mine were in the discount pile at Macy's.

Thank you.  I went to Amazon and found them priced between 12-20 dollars.

Condolences to Melissa, you and family on the passing of her Grandmother.  Your children were very fortunate to have met their great-grandparents.  A true blessing!

Good Morning! 2* so far. I told Josh I hope this early cold means spring will arrive sooner. I'm ready.

I've got a busy day. errands. school. library.  I took out a book I was excited to read and never read it. It's due and there is a hold. oh well.

I'm going to run at nine am. There it is in stone. must be done.

Silly question: did anyone make an resolutions?
Parent - - By dnaff [us] Date 2018-01-02 6:35 AM
Have a good run.  Layer.

Not sure you remember Swifty Susan who posted here, but she posted a FB story about a year of no shopping.  I enjoyed the article and while not exactly a resolution, I'm going to see how far I get with it.  Groceries don't count.  Things like new tires or a car battery don't count.  Running shoes don't count.
Parent - By runnergeel [us] Date 2018-01-02 6:54 AM
like whoa. I love marshalls
Parent - - By Kymoose [us] Date 2018-01-02 6:38 AM
No resolutions.  I do set goals.  One is to read more books.

Happy running.
Parent - - By dnaff [us] Date 2018-01-02 6:40 AM
and share the good ones on here.
Parent - - By Kymoose [us] Date 2018-01-02 6:54 AM
My goal has always been to read 100 books in one year, but I never make it.  I start well, but that's a lot of books and I don't have the time.  If I could make it to 75 that would be challenging, and realistic.

Journaling daily.  Up at 4:00 to read before I run.
Parent - - By runnergeel [us] Date 2018-01-02 6:56 AM
what are you reading now?
Parent - - By Kymoose [us] Date 2018-01-02 10:56 AM
A book written by R.C. Sproul, a pastor/theologian who died just two weeks ago.  A friend of mine gave me the first book he wrote as a Christmas gift.  Sproul was a man I admired.

I mostly love biographies.
Parent - By runnergeel [us] Date 2018-01-02 3:00 PM
I love historical fiction. My latest was The Blood of Emmitt Till. I was hoping to bring myself out of my comfort zone with this story.
Parent - By runnergeel [us] Date 2018-01-02 6:54 AM
yes. always looking for the next great read
Parent - - By oncearunner [us] Date 2018-01-02 6:54 AM
No resolutions here either.  I make goals like becoming a better person, having more fun, reading more, etc.  When I made resolutions, I felt bad if I didn't keep them. So now I take it one day at a time.
Parent - By runnergeel [us] Date 2018-01-02 6:57 AM
I have to keep things simple. I need to go back to pilates. working on it
Parent - - By DottieO Date 2018-01-02 11:25 AM
No resolutions for me. I will try and post more often and do yoga almost every day. Dies that count?
Parent - By runnergeel [us] Date 2018-01-02 3:01 PM
heck yes! I need to be here more too
Parent - - By Dave59 [us] Date 2018-01-02 11:36 AM
No resolutions here. I'll keep trying to use my time better. (Less TV and use the time for better things.)
Parent - By runnergeel [us] Date 2018-01-02 3:01 PM
that's one I'm trying. keeping myself busy. always something to clean
Parent - - By dnaff [us] Date 2018-01-02 6:39 AM
Beyond cold, but the moon is so beautiful!!    I love having my family home.  I equally love my solitude.  Today is the first day since 12/21 that I have the house to myself!!!  Looking forward to a really great day.

We are at -18*. Yesterday was -19*.  I sense improvement.

Today is day one of a 30-day-yoga program.  Arms and abs too.  Running is on hold until we get above 20*....next Wednesday maybe.
Parent - By Kymoose [us] Date 2018-01-02 6:48 AM
Solitude is nice.  I need to do yoga.  I just need to stretch more, um, start stretching.  Maybe that should be one of my goals.  Flexibility exercises three times a week.
Parent - By runnergeel [us] Date 2018-01-02 6:55 AM
I agree with all you have said. I miss my kids already but am happy to do as I wish today. I  hate homework.

brrrr. you stay in girl

-6 here. WC is -19 and the sun is out so we’re going out at 1000 for some food shopping. We’re getting a big storm early Thur into Friday so I’m going off the island on Wednesday so I can get to work without stress. It’s my last weekend before vacation, anyway.

For several days we’ve had sea smoke along with the frozen ocean. You know how clouds and fog are atmospheric in origin? Sea smoke happens when the water temp is very cold and the prolonged air temp cause a weather phenomena where evaporation can’t occur quickly and a “fog” forms on the water. In extreme cases huge cloud banks form offshore but unlike fog or clouds you can see over it. It’s very cool. Today with the sunrise the sea smoke/clouds were pink.

With few exceptions I’ve at least managed to get in my 10K steps daily but running isn’t happening just yet.

Well I bundled up and went out for a 1.19 mile walk.  Felt good to be outside.  Then I did my workout video, plus a 30 second plank and one push up (got to start somewhere!)

Have a good day all!

-2° when I got up. I went to the gym and ran 3 on the treadmill. Still quiet at the gym today but I imagine the after work crowd will be packing it it. I'll find out tomorrow when I stop there after work.

The cold makes the air very dry. I bought a dehumidifier on Sunday and have pumped 3 gallons of water into the air but I don't know if it has made much of a dent. I have an indoor humidity reading of 18% (up from 16%) but I don't know if the device is accurate. I looked online for other ideas on getting moisture into the air. One suggestion was hanging your laundry to dry instead of using the dryer. I was washing some towels at the time so I hung them around to dry.  Not sure if it did any good to the air and now my towels feel like sandpaper.

Our house in Michigan had a dehumidifier hooked right on the central heating unit and it worked good, especially when we upgraded the heater and dehumidifier in our last few winters up there.
Parent - By runnergeel [us] Date 2018-01-02 3:54 PM
towels need a dryer. big time. the internet lies I think.
Parent - By runnergeel [us] Date 2018-01-02 3:57 PM
4 miles today. 3 on my TM and 1 at pt.

My foot is sore today. she tore me up. I think maybe because she is a cowboy fan. not sure. I told her I love my eagles.

It's cold in central FL. and windy. Folks here are bundled up like Eskimos. Temp is 44 but winds are 16 mph with 23 mph gust.
So, Tuesday is a riding day and since I do the pre- ride announcements and lead rides, I HAVE to show up regardless of the weather. Only 4 riders show at the 9:00 AM start. :shocker!: We decided on a short course and tried to stay out of a head wind. Right! That didn't work.
Only saw one runner and no other riders. Hmm! Maybe they were the smart ones huh?
Run safe!
Parent - By dnaff [us] Date 2018-01-02 10:30 AM
That's too cold to be on a bike.
Parent - - By DottieO Date 2018-01-02 11:28 AM
Be careful out there! That’s pretty windy for biking :shocker!:
Parent - - By Ron274 [us] Date 2018-01-02 3:00 PM
Actually ran after the ride, and some strength work in the gym. The lower legs rebeled at first but I persevered.
Parent - By runnergeel [us] Date 2018-01-02 3:55 PM
nice work Ron!
