About to head out for 5 miles on the trails of Coventry Woods with the Lady. Cool and crisp here right now but the frost is starting to melt.

Sorry I can't root for your Buckeyes, but I'll enjoy watching the game no matter who wins. And I'm sure that your run with the Lady was enjoyable.

What, are you playing favorites to the Beard?!   :mutmad:  : pbbt:

Run today was good. Things are up and down these days but I will take the good days. Maybe I call JT, see what he does to rehab in 5 days from the scope. Crazy.

8 miles to, from and around Central Park for me today.  Nice day in NYC
Parent - - By redraider0528 (Fashionista) Date 2017-12-02 10:37 AM
Nice run! Is it decorated for the holidays?
Parent - - By triplejake (The Vampire Lestat) [us] Date 2017-12-04 9:07 AM
Yep, decorations are out in full force -- ran by the big tree in Rockefeller Center and the shop windows at Saks, among other seasonal things.  I think my favorite is that they but big wreaths around the necks of the lion statues outside the library.
Parent - By redraider0528 (Fashionista) Date 2017-12-04 10:57 AM
Awesome! I bet it's beautiful!
I just told my daughter this a.m. that maybe I'd take her to NYC around Christmastime when she's in second grade.
That was prompted because her feelings are sad about her brother and Dad going on a father/son trip this weekend.
Parent - - By Spingoddess [us] Date 2017-12-02 11:29 AM
Do you live in NYC? I run in Central Park quite often! Love it!
Parent - By triplejake (The Vampire Lestat) [us] Date 2017-12-04 9:08 AM
I don't, but come up for work a few times a year and always try to run there.  It is pretty cool -- especially like the bit coming down the west side in the 70s where you get a view of the pond with the skyline in the background.
Parent - By blazer85 [us] Date 2017-12-02 11:47 AM
Sounds like fun!
Parent - By indie [us] Date 2017-12-02 12:49 PM

That sounds like delightful run!
- - By Spingoddess [us] Date 2017-12-02 9:41 AM
6.5 miles with my running pal Jackie. We both registered for the same half-marathon in March, it's hilly, so we tried to hit every hill in the 'hood. Lots to do today! How hard is it to use a chainsaw?
Parent - - By indie [us] Date 2017-12-02 10:34 AM
I have one of those hedge trimmer chainsaw things and have destroyed many a plant by over enthusiastic trimming.
Parent - - By Spingoddess [us] Date 2017-12-02 11:31 AM
  We used to have one, was my FIL's original one from like 1965. Didn't last long. But today I need a real chainsaw, I have to cut logs in half, they're too big for the woodburning stove.
Parent - - By blazer85 [us] Date 2017-12-02 11:48 AM
Could you use an axe?
Parent - By Spingoddess [us] Date 2017-12-02 5:25 PM
An axe or hatchet works well for splitting the logs into halves and quarters vertically, with the grain, but it takes forever when cutting against the grain, like through the width of it. Sorry, not sure how to describe it. Once they’re halved, then Philip can split them with a wedge and a hammer, but he’s afraid of the chainsaw.
Parent - - By redraider0528 (Fashionista) Date 2017-12-02 10:37 AM
Hills for breakfast!
Chaninsaw? :shocker!:
Parent - By Spingoddess [us] Date 2017-12-02 11:33 AM
And they were delicious!

 Yeah, comes off a bit creepy at first glance! I have some logs to saw in half.
Parent - By noquitter [us] Date 2017-12-02 4:36 PM
No ideas on the chainsaw but it's great to have likeminded running partner.
Parent - - By Xtreme Taper Date 2017-12-02 4:43 PM
Ha, I can just see you with a chain saw!

What half are you doing? I thought most of jersey was flat?
Parent - By Spingoddess [us] Date 2017-12-02 5:27 PM
E. Murray Todd half on March 4.
Parent - - By Ed [us] Date 2017-12-02 6:05 PM
"North" Jersey has some substantial hills!  Especially Northwest Jersey.

Heloo, poster from marathons (though I have peeked in here over the years and know some of you). XT pointed me here.

I am digging myself out of a non-running hole. It's been fits and starts. But today is a new day and I am traveling next week for work, so running in a new place should help. 3 miles this morning. 60 and sunny. It's been some weird weather here. I still have my tomato and pepper plants thriving and it's December. :shocker!:
Parent - - By redraider0528 (Fashionista) Date 2017-12-02 10:36 AM
Texas? Nice run!

Yes, DFW area.
Parent - - By Spingoddess [us] Date 2017-12-02 11:34 AM
So what marathon are you registering for to motivate yourself?: pbbt:

Yeah, everyone seems to have moved over here now. Still doesn't feel quite like home- no offense to all the wonderful L&O peeps- I have trouble with new things.
Parent - By indie [us] Date 2017-12-02 12:44 PM
None. I am signed up for a half in March. I am at the point where 3 miles seems a long way.

I left winter, slush, sleet, snow, and biting, freezing cold wind which makes your face hurt nine years ago and LOVE 80 degrees.

Understandable.

I am with Blazer... I prefer 80s over bitter cold but we have a lovely start here to late fall/winter in southeast PA. If it would stay like this it would be perfect. Have a good long run tomorrow.

Texas sounds like my kind of place.

Since I don't dare do a long run as I ease back into running, I am just tried to get the time in with various stuff this morning. 15 minute warm-up on the elliptical, 7.5 mile run with my skinny blondes then immediately went to boxing class. Was only 2:15 of exercise, so not quite long run time, but good enough. Leg feels good!

Going to get a haircut today.
Parent - By indie [us] Date 2017-12-02 12:46 PM
Glad your leg is feeling better.

I walked 3.1 miles this morning.  Yes, it was in an actual 5K that allowed walkers : pbbt:  The race is in memory of a member of our parish & parish elementary school community who was killed serving in Iraq 10 years ago.  He was between the grades of my two kids in school and participated in the intramural soccer program as my son did and I coached for a few years.  So, I knew him then and from the occasional encounter in his short adult life.  Funds raised go to a scholarship at his alma mater (Seton Hall Univ. in North Jersey).

I didn't stick around after the race (it began at 8am) as I was scheduled to volunteer at a bone marrow donor registration event at 10am at the local running store.  Fortunately both the race site (1 mile) and running store (3 miles) are close by my house so I had time to go home, shower & change in between.  The event was held to support a guy with a blood cancer who is a local running & triathlete coach and coordinates an open water swim most summer weekends at a local YMCA camp lake.  Those registering would be for anyone needing marrow and even though the odds are statistically low someone registering at today's event would match this specific guy (he'll need bone marrow after several rounds of chemo), there was a great turnout during my shift in the first 2 hours!

I still need to do two sets of hip exercises sometime today.

Who’s Bucky?

12 miles this morning and then running around like a headless chicken picking up a kid from an hour away, bringing said kid to dance rehearsal, consoling said kid through a full-blown meltdown when the outfit she needs for a Monday night performance wasn’t available on Amazon, having the day saved by another dance parent who bought 2 of the out of stock outfit, bringing another kid to get a new phone (this was in my self-interest so I can call/text him when I need to), picking up kid from dance, buying more dance gear at a bricks and mortar store, and finally home.

Why did I subject myself to all that? Well, check out this promo video for the show my kid is in on Monday night: https://youtu.be/9mBJeR8Fj4I
Proud papa moment right there

Putting up the Christmas tree, then over to the neighbor’s holiday party for a little while, then a date tonight:cool:.

For as long as I lived in Maine before and now moving back I think I will never get used to it being dark at 4:15 pm. In Kentucky I lived far enough west of the Eastern Time zone and pretty close to the Central Time zone to enjoy a light sky until 5:30 pm or so. Of course my kids went to school in the dark  but I still enjoyed more light, even if it was only an hour more.

As is usual since I worked last night and work again tonight I won’t get a run in. I almost always get my 10K+ steps in so l might be up for the step challenge  Even on school days I get my steps in.

One more class and one more final and this semester is over.

Parent - - By PuddleThumper Date 2017-12-02 5:07 PM
our sunset is at 4:20 these days. It's dark when i go to work and when i come home. I can't wait for the solstice! But i do enjoy all the lights that are up at this time of year.
Parent - By Ed [us] Date 2017-12-02 6:14 PM
Today is the earliest sunset we'll have, 4:35pm.  Yesterday is was 4:36.  It stays at 4:35 until 12/14 and then starts gradually moving later.  The days are still getting shorter because sunrise is later, 7:04 today and moves to 7:22   by 12/31 before it starts rising earlier.

5 lovely miles! This week has been beautiful for running.  I've run 21.1 miles in 4 runs so far! Planning to run 6-7 tomorrow, depending on how I feel.  That will be my biggest weekly total in some time. Also got some work done this afternoon.  Took P to "gymnastics" (i.e. rolling around on mats) this morning, then she and I went for a walk before her nap.  DH has been on P duty from nap though dinner, hence getting to run and get work done.  Now we're about to go out to get burgers at a gastropub nearby. P still manages to do pretty well at restaurants, but I know that won't last much longer!
Parent - By Xtreme Taper Date 2017-12-02 4:46 PM

Yeah for a good running week!
- - By PuddleThumper Date 2017-12-02 5:04 PM
4.25 miles with 2 at a pace that caused me to feel slightly ill. It was the first race of the 2 mile series. I've gotten a lot slower this year and wanted to do this series to push myself out of my comfort zone. I was hoping i'd be around 7:30 pace. Started well and not too fast and ran pretty even splits which is good. it's easy to get sucked out very fast at this race. 7:41, 7:45. I managed to stay focus through the second loop and pass people. Not bad!

It's a fun series and was designed to get HS kids to train through the winter. There is either a XC or road 2 mile race every 2 - 3 weeks. Just $45 to do all 6 races and there are a lot of kids and families and all ages of runners out there. Can't beat that! The last time i did the full series (in 2014), i set my all time 5k PR. Not sure i'm gonna duplicate that feat but it sure was fun being done with a race in 15 minutes.

it's been raining ever since. Holiday madness starts tomorrow with a buffet. then for every weekend in December, there is a holiday party or two to go to. i'm going to enjoy a nice quiet weekend and just catch up with some work, knit and relax. I hope to go and run trails tomorrow. I talked a friend into it too.
Parent - By Spingoddess [us] Date 2017-12-02 5:32 PM

Enjoy the relaxing weekend!

I think that's a good way to stay on track during the winter months. You must be doing something right if you felt nauseous. : pbbt:
