Very nice sunny day in PA today for 5 miles along the river in my NEW SHOES! ok they are the same model (Asics Nimbus 19) as my old ones but new shoes always are fun to sniff out of the box, and to run in for the first time.

Good workout at the gym.

2 miles and weights.

The place was packed with lots of serious intense exercisers for some reason. I was motivated by the energy and feeling good until I looked in the mirror to do a form check and realized I had my shirt on backwards. :blush:It was pretty obvious given most race shirts do not list the sponsors on the front of their shirt and the race on the back.

Any way not sure whether I felt good due to the strength of my coffee or SDO yesterday but I'll take it.

Too funny!!

The year I ran the Philadelphia Marathon, the race shirt was printed backwards. There was a slogan that should have been on the back that is on the front and the logo is on the back.

4.5 miles on trails before work.

The regular Friday morning group was pretty small so it was just 3 of us. Very foggy, but I can't blame that for my two falls within the first mile. :mutmad: Mostly, it was me blabbing away and not paying attention to the trail. Neither spill was very hard and there was no blood shed so it was mostly my pride getting hurt.

The first Friday of each month is our card / game night with some friends and one of the other couples offered to host even though it is probably our turn. Good thing, as our house is still in Christmas decorating mode with lots of boxes sitting around waiting for my wife to unload them.

I will be helping with the local home brewers competition tomorrow afternoon. I'm not a judge, but help keep everything organized and tabulate the scores for the beers at my table (while getting to sample).

(a) If there wasn't any blood, you didn't really fall.
(b) What card game do you play?  I feel like a card game tonight!
(c) I look forward to seeing your beer check-ins on Untapped!
Parent - By nooner [us] Date 2017-12-01 11:17 AM
The game we play mostly is called Up and Down the River. (I'm sure that there are other names for the same game) I've brought up Eurce and they dismissed it as too easy. :wtf: The one couple would love for us to be playing Bridge all the time, but there is too much thinking involved with that for some of us. We only have 6 tonight so it may be a night to try some new things. We also play Mexican Train dominoes and other various games.

Most of the beers I will taste tomorrow will be home brews so check-ins are probably not going to happen on those. The competition is held at a place with about 100 taps so I will sample something at the end of the day to make sure I get to taste at least one really good beer.
Parent - By redraider0528 (Fashionista) Date 2017-12-01 12:26 PM

Didn't run yesterday - needed a day off.

This morning I wanted to squeeze in a run before my day started - I'm out of town for a three-day training session.  When my alarm went off, I had to spend several minutes arguing with myself about whether I actually was going to run or not.  The bed magnet was strong and it felt pretty compelling to just turn over and go back to sleep.  Finally convinced myself to get out of bed, and got dressed for running.  Then I couldn't find my #(#*((*#? room key.  I spent at least 15 minutes looking for the damn thing.  Between that and how late I'd gotten out of bed, I really only had time for about a 15-minute run, and considered giving up.  But no, I was dressed for running, and even a 15-minute run is better than nothing.

Got myself out onto the street.  Lightly raining, so I wished I'd worn my hat with a brim rather than a fleece ear warmer, but whatever.  Headed for the paved trail beside the ocean, which required going down a slight slope.  Which was muddier than I realised, so WHOOOM suddenly I was flat on my back with mud down my back and legs.

Ran my intervals - 6 minutes run/1 minute walk, so one interval out and one interval back - with a cramp in my right shin muscle.  Ow.

Anyway, it's done.  : pbbt:

6 miles around the 'hood this morning. Sunny, crisp day. I'm trying to alternate different types of shoes now, see if that helps the chronic overuse injuries that come and go, so I wore some new Brooks Ghost instead of my usual Altra Paradigms that I have grown to love. They felt heavy, but a lot more cushioned. Kind of bouncy. Then some weights and stretching. I forced myself to do squats, even though I hate them and I know they will make my hip sore.

Day 5 of the Diet. My world is a gray film of despair- but some cream in my coffee cast golden rays of sunshine in my kitchen.

Philip and I go look at a house near his dad tomorrow. It's an ok house, nice piece of property, but the bank owns it now (long story) and it looks like a total hassle to go after it. Did I say near his dad? I meant, right across the street.:meh: :killme: :channelEnid:

Do you feel a lot better with your diet? Remind me what you're doing? No sugar?
Parent - By Spingoddess [us] Date 2017-12-01 6:35 PM
I do feel better! I always forget how bad those energy crashes are until I stop ingesting added sugar.  But basically I’m just trying to stop a holiday weight gain by not drinking alcohol and not eating shit.
Parent - - By noquitter [us] Date 2017-12-01 1:05 PM
I'm terrible with diets. Let me rephrase that. I'm terrible with diets that require giving up foods I like. I'd rather just eat less and exercise more.
Parent - By Spingoddess [us] Date 2017-12-01 6:51 PM
Eating less and exercising more doesn't work so well for me anymore. And I'm pretty maxed out on the time I spend exercising during the week, though I could do more on weekends.  But I never give up anything 100%, I think it's not sustainable for the long term unless you give yourself a cheat day every so often.
Parent - - By ironjen Date 2017-12-01 3:23 PM
JUST SAY FUCKNO!
Parent - By Spingoddess [us] Date 2017-12-01 7:04 PM

As much as I want to, my FIL is offering to kick in a substantial amount of money toward the house, so we could get much more than we would be able to otherwise, if we move to his town. It's a sweet deal, and given their ages, it probably won't be for that long-- although my FIL's Aunt Millie just died a few months ago at age 103.

Then there's my MIL, the real reason we'd move there. My FIL has refused to hire a nurse or health aide to help her, and she can't use the shower herself anymore. It's been months. She can't drive anymore and he won't drive her. They never cook, they order pizza every offing day, it's just bad. We've got to be closer to help out.

HIIT circuit/weight training with the Mean Trainer this morning.  I thought I was going to die.  But afterwards, I felt so strong....like I could lift up a truck, so there is that!    Then I did 50 minutes on the elliptical to work off the beer I drank last night.  Going to try running again tomorrow and hope my niggly leg holds up well.  Ideally, I should only do 3-4 miles, but I know I will likely do 8-10 with my skinny blondes because I miss running with them so much and our weather is finally awesome.
Parent - - By redraider0528 (Fashionista) Date 2017-12-01 12:11 PM

The 10 miler I did two weeks ago set me back a bit, so I have only been running two days a week the past couple of weeks.  I will force myself to stop if I need to stop....I did that last Sunday without too much whining.  Next marathon is now three months out, so I need to be smart if I want to get to the starting line.  And I appreciate you looking out for me!

I did a 2,000 m row then class.

5 rounds of:
5 power cleans (oof, those were heavy)
10 tempo push ups (2 down, hold 1, up 2)

then 4 rounds of 4 weight room type exercises

2,000 m row

I went to the gym this morning & walked 1 mile, did hip & shoulder exercises and swam 600 meters.

I do the age-graded scoring for a "Grand Prix" road race series coordinated by the local USA Track & Field (USATF) Assn.  Ten races beginning last Feb and ending with the three (Full, Half and 8K) races associated with the Philadelphia Marathon.  The race timer was late (this past Monday for races held the weekend before Thanksgiving) getting me a results file but I still prefer this/him waiting until any necessary adjustments are made vs. having to redo stuff.  I had preliminary results for the 3 races out on Monday night, received feedback I only missed one runner.  Added him in and began tabulating the final individual and running club standings yesterday.  Last things I need to do (today?) are merge about 200 runner's results from the last 3 races into individual standings from the previous races and then save all my spreadsheets as PDF docs and post them online.   The last (manual) file merge is a bit tedious so I better get to it!
