10 miles with the middle 6 at tempo effort. I say effort and not pace because I honestly have no idea what my proper tempo pace is right now; I haven't run a non-cross country race since July, and that was still hilly and the day after drinking and dancing too much at my friend's wedding. I averaged around 6:10 pace for the 6 miles, which I guess is pretty good. Ideally, I'd like to be under 6:00, but I have learned not to force fitness and just let it come to me.
Parent - By Beastie Girl [us] Date 2017-11-09 3:44 PM
Nice pace

Parent - - By IB [us] Date 2017-11-09 12:50 PM
Think I will take a day off from running, right hamstring isn't very happy. I did walk about 2.3 miles at a very fast clip after just missing the bus this morning.
Parent - - By noquitter [us] Date 2017-11-09 8:46 PM
That's looking on the bright side. Kind of an opportunity walk.
Parent - By IB [us] Date 2017-11-09 11:16 PM
I do very much enjoy my opportunity walks (thank you for the terminology). Had I been in possession of the book I am currently reading I might have sat down, but without it I figured the best course of action was to move my body.
Parent - - By Buggy [us] Date 2017-11-09 1:35 PM
6 miles last night at a decent clip.

Hopefully another 6 miles tonight. It's currently 21 degrees with 22 mph winds, so I'm steeling myself. Feel like temp is 5 F. :meh: it's forecast to warm up next week, though. We may even flirt with 50 degrees :shocker!:
Parent - By classicsnerd [us] Date 2017-11-09 2:07 PM

Parent - - By Buggy [us] Date 2017-11-09 9:13 PM
I ended up deciding that indoor cross training sounded a lot more appealing tonight. : pbbt: I'll have plenty of opportunity to run in the frigid temps this winter with a winter marathon training cycle.
Parent - - By noquitter [us] Date 2017-11-10 6:30 AM
I dislike early spring races for that reason though I always feel a pang when the first one comes and goes if I'm not signed up. I run with a couple of groups here and they have helped me get through runs that would have been almost unbearable otherwise. In absence of that I run indoors but prefer outdoor misery  with the right company.
Parent - By Buggy [us] Date 2017-11-10 6:33 AM
I don't do treadmills, so if I'm going to run, it's outside. Although I certainly grumble, I generally don't have issues running outside year round when I need to. Last night was one of those nights when there was no compelling reason I needed to run vs doing a different kind of workout.
Parent - By Beastie Girl [us] Date 2017-11-10 8:24 AM
Last winter was the first time I trained for a spring marathon and I have to admit that I felt pretty badass getting in my long runs in all kinds of crappy conditions.
Parent - - By Xtreme Taper Date 2017-11-09 4:45 PM
Late afternoon run with the Lady on the hilly trails of Coventry Woods, finishing up just before darkness. About 6 miles I suppose. Pretty slow, with one graceful fall towards the end of the run. Went to jump over a tree limb on the trail and my plant foot caught a rock or root hiding under the leaves. So the jump did not go so well, unless you enjoy a good fall as part of your jump. Banged my shin on the log pretty hard, but hey at least it wasn't my knee.

5 miles with two friends. 46 degrees and not windy. Perfect run!

Hello??? Details on the puppy rescue?
Parent - - By redraider0528 (Fashionista) Date 2017-11-09 11:59 AM
Well, he was probably less than a year old. Handsome black lab with a red collar. He saw us and took off running FAST towards a main street. I kept seeing him stop and then bolt again.
Caught him outside a glass studio visiting the shop dog. Called his parents and they were out looking for him. He went over a couple miles.

Around 11 a.m. I saw a post on our nextdoor page that someone saw a black lab with red collar running over in my area (4 miles from where we ran). I certainly hope it wasn't the same one.
Parent - - By blazer85 [us] Date 2017-11-09 12:10 PM
I hope it was different dog as well.  If not, that makes me mad!:mutmad:
Parent - By redraider0528 (Fashionista) Date 2017-11-09 12:13 PM

So I think I'm catching on to this post reply thing.:wtf:

4 yesterday. Enjoyed my day off thoroughly.

2 today. All my taper miles have been treadmill. Hope that's ok, but I've been busy so it's that or nothing with the time change and all.

Parent - - By noquitter [us] Date 2017-11-09 7:47 AM
Gobbler Grind 1/2 marathon. It's the first goal race I've had in ages. Last year= lots of running goals so this year was mostly recovery.

Gym day - the usual stuff.  New PB for reps on the bench press.

Mid 40s and windy this morning.  Maybe summer is finally over?
Parent - By noquitter [us] Date 2017-11-09 7:48 AM
Congrats on the PB! Weights are a good indicator of improvement.

Nice work!
Parent - - By blazer85 [us] Date 2017-11-09 12:08 PM
I guy I work with, who is our age, just had to have shoulder surgery as he was working on his PB on the bench press.  Be careful!
Parent - - By BigTex [us] Date 2017-11-09 12:11 PM
I am EXTREMELY paranoid about shoulder injuries.  So, even though I have a lifetime goal in the bench press, I quit trying to get closer to it.  I figured that if I just stopped at 75% and kept trying to increase the number of reps I could do, then maybe I could sneak up on it.

Now that I can't count weekly miles, I need to try to get better on something.   Can't admit that I am just a hamster on a treadmill.
Parent - By AgelessDave Date 2017-11-09 12:43 PM
I gave up on my lifetime bench press goal long ago....now I am resigned to just being old, slow, and weak.....

3.05 w/ Benji this morning - wore a light windbreaker over my long sleeved shirt and had to ditch it halfway - too toasty!  saw 1 other runner (decked out in jacket, hat & gloves), 1 walker and 1 dog.

I had a long sleeve on top of a tank top with crops. I did have my earband and gloves but had to take the gloves off one mile in.
Parent - - By blazer85 [us] Date 2017-11-09 12:07 PM
47 degrees is when I put on a long sleeve shirt, though I am still in shorts.  I wear gloves into the 50's as I am a delicate little flower!

82 minutes on the elliptical (the time it took me to watch two episodes of Scandal on Netflix), then PT, then 3.3 miles on the Altra-G.  I ran at 85% of my weight at 8:40 pace with no discomfort at all.  My PT has said when I can go outside when I can run at 90% of my weight.  I really could have done that today, but since she correctly envisions my twice a week PT sessions will end very, very soon, she likely kept me at 85% to ensure another visit or two.  TRANSLATION:  one or two more billing to the insurance company.   They are not running a racket, but I don't see me going more than one more time for good luck.

Will go to boxing class tonight.
Parent - - By classicsnerd [us] Date 2017-11-09 2:11 PM
ok, you are a serious machine!  I am so in awe of how much you work out, when injured or not.  How many days a week do you do boxing class in addition to a major cardio workout?
Parent - By blazer85 [us] Date 2017-11-09 8:32 PM
I usually go to boxing class three nights a week. It is fun and I have boxing friends, so it is a fun social thing to do after work.

I'm on episode 6 of Stranger Things. I really want to binge but have to wait on my husband.
Parent - By blazer85 [us] Date 2017-11-09 8:33 PM
Ugh, I hate when I have to wait for my husband with a show. We are half way through Mindhunter and he keeps having to watch "a game", so we are stuck on episode 5.

One mile walk & one set hip exercises...so far.  Should repeat the same later this afternoon.  A bit milder out than yesterday but now it's overcast & they are calling for a low tomorrow night in the 20s :shocker!: and

Have to write up minutes from the running club meeting last night & email to our members.  Mostly to let them know who has been nominated as officers and have any other interested folk "stand up now or forever hold their peace"...by our December meeting.  So far one nomination per position & hope it stays that way so we don't have to actually run an election! It's been >15 years since we've had multiple candidates & had to vote.
Parent - - By blazer85 [us] Date 2017-11-09 12:15 PM
My one and only time of being nominated for a board position, led to my three years as Treasurer of the lacrosse booster club.  Those three years taught me I never want the "honor" of being nominated for anything again!
Parent - By Ed [us] Date 2017-11-09 1:00 PM

In the mid 90s I was nominated as president, got elected and was not really prepared for it.  A few years later I did a year as VP but unfortunately, our president who had a management positon in Verizon (it may have been Bell Atlantic at that time), got put back in the field working 14 hour days when the rank & file went on strike.  So, he missed a bunch of club meetings and I wound up filling in.  I did a 2-year stint as pres. after that, skipped a year and have been secretary ever since...about 15 years now.  It's not so bad.  I "inherited" my other job as RD for our summer race series as the series founder & original RD became disabled and my co-RD passed away.  That job is a bit more work but concentrated in June, July & August.

5 miles for me, nice and easy, on the beautiful trail near my house.  I'm really so lucky to live so close to it. Perfect weather for a run - 50, mostly cloudy, little breeze.  Shorts and long sleeve T weather.  Tomorrow's high is only in the high 30s! :shocker!:

Aw, thanks for asking about the hubs.  He went back to work today. I haven't received any calls so I'm assuming he's fine.  It is his first day without oxycodone, so wondering how that's going!

Where do you run at night?
Parent - By cowboyjunkie Date 2017-11-09 7:01 PM
In the neighborhoods/residential area around the campus where I work. I have various routes from  there including trials in the nature preserve on campus. This time of year though it gets too dark to incorporate those into a run . I usually go over to the place where I work out right after that four days a week to do weighs and stuff since it's pretty close by..
- - By DottieO Date 2017-11-09 3:35 PM
No run today but we walked to every house on the island and double checked the water lines so we won’t have frozen valves. I actually checked nothing  but went along for the company and it was a pretty day for a walk. 12K steps!  The fire dept was here all day finishing up the tent/shelter for the fire truck. It’s so big but the color is a dark green that I think will be quite camouflaged when the leaves are out. Every time I see the fire boat I think that would be a great gig  and way more fun than working in a hospital.

Sorta scheduled day off. I had an off-site (2 hours away) client meeting this morning so I skipped my run since I didn't want to get up at a time that starts with 4. So I switched my day off from tomorrow to today.

First corporate volleyball match of the season tonight! I might not play since 1. we have like 15 people who said they are coming, and 2. I have a history of injuring myself and I am getting married in 17 days and don't want to be in a cast or on crutches for it.

We are getting a cold snap for the weekend, our high tomorrow is in the mid-30s and it's supposed to get down to 20* tomorrow night! :shocker!:

i'm back from vacation and ragnar relay on the big island in hawaii! we had a great time! the running in the relay? Pretty tough because it was so hot. that's ok because it snowed in Seattle (where i live) while we were gone. haha! I'm really glad to have done the relay however. it was a beautiful course and a very nice team and just quite the destination event.

i had a bout of heat exhaustion before the race even started. I think it was heat exhaustion. I thought i was coming down with the flu but didn't have any congestion. Fortunately, i was able to recover enough to start the relay although i still felt like i was still recovering. I had a lot of support on my very long legs during the relay and can vouch for ice down the bra and under the hat as helping a lot to stay cool. : pbbt:

We got back early tuesday. Today is my first day back to work. While i was gone a coworker who had unexpectedly gone out on leave of absence jsut before i went on vacation died. :shocker!: we have no idea what happened. I feel very badly for him and his family but frankly, he was a useless coworker. i feel bad for thinking that it really is just easier now. :meh::cry:

I biked on the roller trainer for 20 minutes this morning (I want to bring back cross training during winter...)  and i will run a few miles this evening with the group. It's 45 degrees and raining and windy. :meh:

:meh: Day 9 after my cat bit me. All the punctures are healed but my foot is still very bruised. There's still pain from the top of my foot to my toes if I flex them.

Eric, the feline moron, got into a fight with the cat door last night. It was his first experience with one. He'd push the flap and it would swing back... Clearly an act of war. Each time, he'd start hitting the flap a few times , then back off. : pbbt:
