5.3 chilly miles for me.
Parent - - By Buggy [us] Date 2017-11-07 7:57 AM
Nice! I wish I had the gumption to run in the mornings.

On second thought, no. I prefer sleeping. : pbbt: Seriously, though, I have issues with getting my HR up for any kind of quality workout in the early morning. I can do long runs, but not quality speed, hills, etc. Anyone else have this issue?
Parent - - By classicsnerd [us] Date 2017-11-07 8:14 AM
I'm a much better morning runner.  I'm soooo tired (even when not pregnant) between, say, 4 and 7.  I just lose all my mojo - for work, for exercise, for life - between those hours  But until my baby learns how to sleep :cry:, I am stuck running mid-morning.  I'm very lucky to have that option now, since I WFH.
Parent - By Buggy [us] Date 2017-11-07 9:23 AM
I wonder if it has to do with normal body clock cycles? I get my best sleep between about 6-9 a.m., when I get the chance to actually sleep during those hours. Unfortunately things like normal working hours get in the way. OTOH, I am wide awake and alert in the late afternoons.

Packed to run, but wimped out of the rain, sleet and snow and ate at Arby's instead. Probably would have done better than to get the two-for-six-bucks beef, bacon and cheddar plus fries.

7 miles for me last night. It was a good run, but I'm not a fan of dark by 5:30 :meh:

Tonight is an USDO: last night just before bed my two boys (twins-sophomores in hs) finally remembered to tell me that tonight is the cross country banquet. :meh: And it's a potluck. Since I'm obviously not making anything at this point, I hope everyone likes the vege tray I pick up on my way home from work
Parent - - By classicsnerd [us] Date 2017-11-07 8:13 AM
oh, teenagers.  Is the banquet for parents too, or just kids?  I like to think that my parents enjoyed going to those things, but they probably hated them
Parent - By Buggy [us] Date 2017-11-07 9:24 AM
It's for parent, too. I don't mind the banquets. I've kind of gotten used to them after 3 kids. : pbbt:

Nice run! Dark by 5:30 is just wrong.

Good run!! I'm not a fan either... feels like midnight outside and I just want to sleep.

Well, my morning run has been delayed. Armed person on campus at TCU. Shit. Apparently it was a road rage incident between two shuttle bus drivers but still. My kids school was on hard lockdown and now soft but TCU has given the all clear.

I'm going to try this post instead of reply thing, since that seems to be how y'all roll on the dailies over here.

Running did not happen yesterday.  DH is still in bed recovering from Friday's surgery so that makes timing complicated.  Today should work for getting out.  I'm going to get some work done for a couple of hours then sneak out for maybe 6 easy miles.  The weather has really finally cooled down - high today is 52.  That makes this fall lover very happy.  It only took until November 7th to actually get fall  And in four weeks it will be freezing, I bet.  Oh well.

happy days to all!

got the run in, but it ended up being only 5 instead of 6.  My 1st trimester tummy was queasy, so I cut it a bit short.  Still, when pregnant, any run is a good run!  Actually, that's true most of the time.

35* this morning, first run in long tights since spring! 8 x 800 at the track, targeting 4:10 pace with 1 min recoveries. My splits were 4:04, 4:03, 4:03, 4:05, 4:03, 4:04, 4:03, and 4:06. I need to work on keeping more focus in the last repeat. I tried today but I think I was looking at the sunrise. 1 mi w/u and c/d for 6.3 miles on the day. Then I went directly to vote!

My left shin is a bit sore now, but it felt fine on the run. I ran in an older pair of shoes that don't look like they need retiring, but maybe they do.
Parent - By Buggy [us] Date 2017-11-07 9:27 AM
Nice job on the 800 repeats!

Sore shins post-run is usually one of my first signs it's time to replace my shoes.

Also trying to get used to post-instead-of-reply ....

Today was a gym day.  Yesterday I did the usual run but had to cut it short.  I was late getting to the trail because I zoned out and drove to the gym instead.  I actually put my stuff in the locker and started the weights before I remembered.  Is this a senior moment?

I will be back out on the trail tomorrow (assuming I remember), when it's supposed to be about 20 degrees cooler.

It went well.  I ended up running with a young lady who ran xc in college.  She was merciful unto me   8 miles as darkness fell.

the cemetery we run in closes after dark.
we got locked in and had to climb the fence to escape.

it might have been 6:45 at the latest.

Parent - By LDR (100 Mile Stud) [us] Date 2017-11-08 10:00 AM
Yes - there were several (3-4) carloads of people at the back of the cemetery honoring a lost loved one during our last loop.  I'm trusting they all got out before the gates were closed.  If not, I'm not sure who'll they'd call

1 set hip exercises plus a 1.0 mile walk so far.  I know I could have typed that without the ".0" but it was my first post surgery walk to reach at least a mile and I wanted to put the integer on the left side of the decimal! : pbbt:   Also, I took the cane along for the walk but didn't use it after about the first 50 feet!:happy:

WTF!  Fall has arrived!  It was 45° when I went out at 10am this morning.  It's supposed to rain later  so walk #2 is TBD.

You are doing great!  How are you on stairs?
Parent - - By Ed [us] Date 2017-11-07 12:17 PM
Stairs - up is easier than down 'cause you lead with the non-surgical leg.  "Mr. cane" or hanging on to the railing is a must!

Thanks!
Parent - By dnaff [us] Date 2017-11-07 12:38 PM
we visited our neighbor this past weekend.  I think he is one week  more post surgery than you.  He went downstairs with his cane until the last 4, then he tossed the cane to his wife and even finished with alternating legs.  It was quite a victory moment!
Parent - By redraider0528 (Fashionista) Date 2017-11-07 12:13 PM
You're doing awesome!
Parent - - By Beastie Girl [us] Date 2017-11-07 2:14 PM
My mom is now fully transitioned to the cane! You are still beating her overall though. : pbbt:

Can you do laps inside your house for walk #2?
Parent - By Ed [us] Date 2017-11-07 6:18 PM
I'm younger (somewhat) than your mom.

I live in a split level house.  There's not enough open space on any one level for laps to be other than mind numbing and dizzying!  The rain started before I ventured outside so since I "passed" my DW's driving test yesterday I drove myself to the gym & did 11.25 laps of the "track" surface around the fitness floor = 1 mile...sans cane! So, a successful 2 miles for the day!   One of the trainers saw me as I finished so I had to give her an update & then she picked my brain about getting certified to teach indoor cycling.

Feeling the DOMS from my Sunday x-c ski excursion - my biceps and quads are letting me know they're not used to that type of activity.  They'd better smarten up because there's lots more skiing ahead.

Heading to the gym after work for cardio intervals and strength training.
Parent - - By Beastie Girl [us] Date 2017-11-07 2:15 PM
 Love the DOMS when it's my first time back at something!

What do you do for cardio intervals?
Parent - By skigirl Date 2017-11-07 5:15 PM
I change it up - there's a set of stairs in the gym so for one cardio interval I'll run up and down the stairs a few times.  I also will do an interval of 500 m on the rowing machine.  Or, seven minutes on the treadmill, booting up the speed with each passing minute.  I've also thought of doing a skipping interval, but I always forget to take my skipping rope into the gym with me.  : pbbt:
Parent - By redraider0528 (Fashionista) Date 2017-11-07 5:04 PM
I have no access to a treadmill anymore but I miss it sometimes because I had a pretty good interval run.

A bit under 5 miles at noon.

I was solo today and usually that means I run faster than normal because there isn't anyone to talk with so I tried to keep it under control. Did well through 3 miles then bumped into a guy I know who was also running solo so I joined up with him. He's younger and faster than I am so the last almost 2 miles were quicker while trying to talk.  His office is a few blocks from mine so I was ok with coming up a bit short of the 5 miles I had planned.

I shared some beer with a few of the guys at work a couple of weeks ago and one of them said that he had a bunch of leftovers from a beer club he once belonged to. The past two days I have come into work to find beer in my office. So far, 2 six packs and 4 20 ounce bombers with the promise of a little more.

Nice runs!

4 easy miles this morning, first post-NYCM run. Felt good! Here's a mini-NYCM report: Great race, easy logistics, almost perfect running weather (a tad humid), fantastic views, cool course. I ran with my running partner and good friend, and we agreed at the start to run the whole thing together. Our A goal was 4:15. I had a good training cycle, felt great, and usually Jackie and I are about the same pace. Then Jackie started with bad quad cramps early, like mile 11. She told me to go ahead, but to me, leaving to run ahead for a time that wouldn't even be close to 4 hours or a BQ just would be a real dick move, and it wasn't worth it to me. So we ran slowly. I always kept her in my vision, but I would run a little bit ahead, then run in place:roll:, then run a bit ahead... it wasn't even intentional, it was just that running so slowly all the time was as uncomfortable for me as running fast. It seems I just have one pace, and it's pretty mediocre.: pbbt: Anyway, at about mile 22 I just stuck next to her all the way to the finish, which was an amazing experience. We finished in 4:40:21. The thing is, now I have tons of energy leftover, since I felt like I jogged the whole race. So I'm contemplating two races, both are in two weeks. One is Philadelphia Marathon (is that sold out yet?), and the other is the NYC 60K in Central Park. I'd like to race a marathon, but I don't want to get up at 3am to drive down. And the 60K is so much closer, and I've run it three times before. I really like that 60K. Hmmm.

I ran 6 after work last night. First night where it was dark when I finished. I picked up an almost all white, very light weight windbreaker type thing when I got up my bib for Stonecat last weekend. It was on sale and I thought it would be a really good thing to wear this time of year..very bright. Usual workout thingy afterwards.
