Not racing, but SNF and I will be crewing and pacing for a friend/coworker who is running his first 100.  Unfortunately, the forecast calls for cold and rainy weather.
Parent - By jaszflamus (I like wool!) Date 2017-11-02 3:59 PM
Nice...have fun with it. He'll need the two of you more than ever if indeed it's cold and rainy.

A friend of mine finished his first 100 there (assuming that you mean Rio del Lago). He said that it was raining the first 18 hours:cry:. He finished in 27:54.

Santa Clarita Marathon
You can figure out the name and the distance from that.
11/5/2017.
I just want to finish, preferably sub-6. Haven't trained as much as I should.
Parent - - By gophergirl [us] Date 2017-11-02 7:49 PM
Enjoy  how many marathons will this be?
Parent - - By Arimathea [us] Date 2017-11-02 10:37 PM
Um...*runs off to check spreadsheet*...82 fulls, plus 30 ultras of various distances. That is presuming I finish. I DNFd the last two ultras and finished at Missoula 8 minutes before they closed the course due to heat.

Ran that one in 2006, pretty much hit my goal, despite it being very hot, hope you get cool weather

Currently using that 2006 shirt as my goto running gear

Have fun
Parent - By Arimathea [us] Date 2017-11-03 10:55 AM
Bright neon green? I wear that one fairly frequently also.

That was the year that a woman at shirt pickup kicked up an almighty fuss because the 5K shirts were orange and the half/full were green. Seems she didn't want to look like an ambulating traffic pylon. She wanted the green. They told her she would have to pay the difference between the 5K and the half -- and actually run the half. I suspect she stuck with the orange shirt.

For some years, though, they've used green as the theme colour for the 5K, red for the half, and purple for the full.

Finished, chip time 5:43 something.

Which, to my astonishment, was good for 2nd in my AG (women's 50-54). I guess all the others in my age group went elsewhere this year.

Glad it worked out! Congratulations!

Gobbler Grind 1/2

Overland Park KS (Kansas City suburb)

10/12

Sub 1:55

This was my first 1/2 and below 2:00 hours. It took over 10 years to get under 2 hours again which I did in 2016. Now I really want to try and get under 1:55. My faster running friends have made me want to do this.

Early gobbles! Good luck

I am running the Gobbler Grind marathon! We should meet pre-race and say hi.

Do you live in KC area?
Parent - - By noquitter [us] Date 2017-11-04 4:04 AM Edited 2017-11-04 4:07 AM
Yes I do. Have you done this one before?
Parent - - By rob26.2 Date 2017-11-04 8:56 AM
I've run this 5 or 6 times. The course has changed many times so I think I have run this current route twice. There is a fairly big uphill around mile 5ish but you get to make it up on a big downhill a couple miles later. The remainder is fairly flat.
Parent - - By noquitter [us] Date 2017-11-04 11:25 AM
Did you by any chance do it the year it was 6 degrees? Misery.  That course has changed several times and I haven't run it for 2 years. I hope you are right about the flat part.
Parent - By rob26.2 Date 2017-11-04 4:08 PM
Ha! I missed the cold year. I used to live near the route and I spectated for about 15 minutes then decided it was too cold to be out there.

Name:   Mt. Laguna Trail Marathon
Distance: 27 miles
Date: Nov. 5
Goal: Run hard and have fun

I've trained differently for this race. Much lower miles than normal. Emphasis on quality and recovery. Thinking I can run better on a targeted 50-55 miles per week over 70+. At 49 I need to put more emphasis on running economy and speed over aerobic development. That requires more easy and off days. We'll see.
Parent - By noquitter [us] Date 2017-11-06 6:00 AM
I hope your race went well. I would think 50-55  would require a large commitment especially if part of them were trail miles. 70 is beyond comprehension unless you have someone sponsoring you to run.: pbbt:
Parent - - By LDR (100 Mile Stud) [us] Date 2017-11-06 6:33 AM
Let us know how the new training regimen worked for you.
Parent - - By darbycrash Date 2017-11-06 5:56 PM
I ended up DnF ing. I've had a couple nagging issues(hip flexor, ankle) that didn't take well to a fall and runni g aggressively downhill on some rocky terrain. Shut it down at mile 13.

Fitness seemed good...similar to when I ran this race a couple years ago on 70-80 miles a week.  Probably better speedwise but I don't know what would have happened in the later miles.

My last two trail races have been DnF' s. Thinking I need a break from racing both mentally and physically. Maybe run some shorter stuff next year. The injuries will heal but I don't seem to have the desire to push through the discomfort associated with longer trail races. Mojo is missing. Not sure why. Just not into it even though I still love running most days.

I experienced a similar loss of mojo about a year ago.  Very little was going well and I spent many miles in my longer races thinking "never again."  Amazingly, this year has been much better.  I think cutting back my weekly mileage helped, as did doing a few more races.

Hope your love of running continues.
