Today was a perfect day for a run. 56 and calm. And you? What's your weather like?

5 miles with a buddy

6.4 dark miles today. I think it was 55 or 58 degrees - perfect, except for some strong wind gusts.

That sounds like Tuesday here. It was BLUSTERY!

- it's funny, but I can walk or run in the dark in unfamiliar corners of the state, or other states, but getting outside my own front door before daylight is a tough hurdle for me.  Go figure...
- kudos for getting out there

5 miles with myself in another misty drizzle but even cooler than yesterday, about 63F. It felt good, again.

- it was almost warm, humid, overcast, almost misting rain, but wonderful for running!
- ten miles, no walking, each mile under 9 minutes; I haven't had a run this strong for a long time!
- new Nano on shuffle

I did some deadlifts and other awful stuff. My DL is slowly coming back. I hope I didn't just jinx it tho.
Parent - - By redraider0528 (Fashionista) Date 2017-10-12 12:46 PM
I still struggle with deadlifts. I know I don't keep my shoulder blades pulled together enough... therefore my upper back goes weak and my lower back aches.
Parent - - By BrookieCookie (Canadian Beaver) Date 2017-10-12 1:17 PM
My old boss used to tell me to try to think of breaking the bar in half with your hands while you grip it to engage your lats and help get the upper back firing. Maybe that will help? For me it's my glutes I have to do a lot of glute activations before I start otherwise my low back takes the load.
Parent - - By redraider0528 (Fashionista) Date 2017-10-12 6:25 PM
Yeah, that makes sense ... maybe I need to try more glute activations :mischief:
Seriously though, I feel like if the weight is light I can control it but add a bit more on and it goes to shit... and I know I'm capable of doing more.
Parent - - By BrookieCookie (Canadian Beaver) Date 2017-10-13 10:50 AM
Try Glute activation for sure. Banded hip press or even clam shells or whatever. If your glutes aren't firing your low back takes the load.

Wow.

I did a double today...not because I'm awesome but just due to logistics.
I ran 2.7 with the pups, in the rain (that's about all the big one is good for ) and then I drove to where I really wanted to run and 3.8 on my favorite trail, sans pups but plus crazy, attack turkeys
Parent - - By redraider0528 (Fashionista) Date 2017-10-12 6:25 PM
 how are you feeling?
Parent - By runnergirl4 (BJ Queen) Date 2017-10-13 10:00 AM
Good! I was a wreck after that encounter but a bottle of wine and rehashing the whole event with DH made for some really good belly laughs. About 5 minutes before the 'attack' I got a video of them just running along the trail ahead of me because I was thinking it was fun and all

I have a hilly half in 20 days and I'm completely not ready...lots of miles for me in the next 15 days I think!
Parent - - By brneydrnnr (barney cougar) [us] Date 2017-10-13 7:46 AM
I saw your turkey pics - how crazy is that!?!
Parent - By runnergirl4 (BJ Queen) Date 2017-10-13 10:02 AM
I know right   we have them all over but I've never run into them up on the trail. Ugh, I hope they're gone tomorrow!
Parent - - By The Beard (is wearing Arm Panties) [us] Date 2017-10-13 7:58 AM
I don't run there as often as I'd like but it's pretty much a guarantee that you'll see a bunch of turkeys if you run in the UW Arboretum.

Occasionally I'll see some in my neighborhood - there's a wooded area in the general vicinity that they come from. These "urban turkeys" give zero f*cks, standing right in the middle of the road, blocking traffic.
Parent - By runnergirl4 (BJ Queen) Date 2017-10-13 10:03 AM
That's how the neighborhood turkeys are...they'll just stand in the middle of the road, slowly meandering along. These guys were vicious!
