And just like that, September is 1/2 done.

Anything 1/2 done at your house?    Post 'em.
Parent - - By dnaff [us] Date 2017-09-15 5:39 AM
A lot of my summer projects are still in the planning stage.  That may count as 1/2 done.   Ah well, I'll move them to the 'maybe next summer' list.

I made some pumpkin cinnamon rolls and even though I baked them longer than recommended they are gooey; half done.

Rest day here.  Packet pickup for tomorrow.  Errands to do.  Have a good Friday all.

What race are you running?
Parent - - By dnaff [us] Date 2017-09-15 6:48 AM
A 10k called Bridge the Community.  We live in a twin cities kind of area; 2 small towns separated by a river.  We start in the other town and come across a 4lane bridge and thru my downtown.  Circle around and run back across a pedestrian bridge and then down along the canal towpath, wind thru a beautiful park (hs cross country route) and back up to the other downtown.  $ goes to riverfront beautification.  5th year for the race.  I missed last year because of Misha.  Otherwise I've run them all.

Sounds like a nice race.

I haven't run a 10k in years. Of course a 10k is practically a long run for me these days.  I saw a 10k listed on-line (Dunbar Wine Cellar Classic) that sounded familiar so I looked in my race history and saw that I ran it in 1989. Ran it in 47:40 (7:41 pace).  I couldn't even do 1 mile in 7:41 now.

I thought about signing up but it's 40 miles from here and would have made for a long day.  A point to point race so you have to get there early to catch a bus to the start.  And I already committed to other things tomorrow.

Well yeah, 10k is my long run too:laugh:   Ok, I ran 7 two weeks ago in prep for it but that was just silly.

This is on the big bridge at 1/4 mile.   If you squint way back in the picture to the horizon you can almost make out the pedestrian bridge we come back on.

I like the idea and course for your race tomorrow.  Hope the weather and everything goes perfect for you.

What did Amy decide on her job offer?
Good luck at your race! I have a "race" this weekend too. It should be VERY interesting :meh:
Parent - - By dnaff [us] Date 2017-09-15 2:54 PM
She accepted it today!!   It's a company that manufactures electro magnets, coils and rf inductors (whatever that may be) and she'll be entry level in their research and development division.

Congratulations to Amy!

Yay!!!! Local?
Parent - - By dnaff [us] Date 2017-09-15 3:54 PM
40 miles away.
Parent - - By ironjen Date 2017-09-16 6:25 AM
Excellent news. Will she be moving closer to the job or commute for a bit?
Parent - - By dnaff [us] Date 2017-09-16 10:59 AM
I'd like to have her closer to work before winter because her car isn't very reliable.  I have a couple leads on apartments to call today.  But she'll probably commute for a bit.
Parent - By ironjen Date 2017-09-18 7:45 AM
Sounds like a good plan!

Congratulations

Good morning!

Yes my decluttering is half done.  I need to work on my study, laundry room and the bedroom closets.  But winter is coming so they may be winter tasks.

Gas prices are coming down!  Yea!

I am going to attempt to bake these later today.  http://cakescottage.com/2014/09/11/impossible-pumpkin-pie-cupcakes/2/

It's back to  helping with a mailing at church today.  I heard the ladies missed my "stuffing" skills last week.

Have a productive Friday!

Again I hate you...decluttering:cry::cry::cry::laugh::laugh::laugh:   Around here clutter would be a dream.

How was your Bible Study?  Our Wed night study was most excellent.   Check your PM box here.
Parent - - By dnaff [us] Date 2017-09-15 8:17 AM Edited 2017-09-15 8:23 AM
yes, how was Bible study?  Are you leading this one?   And the cupcakes look amazing.
Parent - By oncearunner [us] Date 2017-09-15 1:50 PM
Thanks Tom for your message.

Well we have 3 new people in our study and I am so happy.  One is a younger couple -- probably in their late 40's early 50's.  And at today's mailing, we may have picked up one more student!

Leading -- oh no, not me.  Our fearless leader Rudy is leading it.  I am too emotional and my voice cracks especially when something speaks directly to me, so I don't think that I would be a good leader.

Last night we just previewed the course and watched a short video.  We are using the Jeff Cavins series and if you have not listened to him, please do.   He is so knowledgeable.  He was born Catholic, left the church, became a Protestant preacher and returned home.  I read his book that details his journey.

I meet with some guys for coffee on (some) Saturdays around 10:00, but they decided they wanted to meet at 8:00 this week. That was going to make my planned "long run" hard to fit in before so I did the longer run today. My long run is just by time and I went 1:32 this morning.  In the next 7 weeks I want to do a couple 2+ hour runs so I will be "ready" for my half.

But it was a pretty good run. 8.46 miles and it was a minute per mile faster pace than my last long run a couple weeks ago.

I should have brought my headlamp. I forgot how dark it is at night.  I got to the park and the combination of fog and no sun was eerie.  I was going to start with a couple laps around the pond but it looked utterly black so I started on the roads where there are some street lights. There is a section covered over by trees and no lights. I could barely see the road. A couple deer just stood and looked at me from a few feet away. They didn't even bother to move.  And then came the skunk smell. I was hoping I didn't run right into the little bugger.  After 48 minutes I got back to my car and stopped for a drink. By then it was getting light and I finished up with 44 minutes of loops around the pond. I was surprised by how well I was feeling.

Now to work a bit. I may take some time off today. I'm just kind of bored of it all. If things are calm I will sneak out.

skunks and fog here too.  I like headlamp season.  thanks for reminding me to dig mine out.

Ran 8.17 miles this morning.

Kolbe is 8 today. I told him he is halfway to his drivers license. Family over for dinner tonight. Burgers on the grill and homemade fries.
Parent - By Dave59 [us] Date 2017-09-15 6:47 AM
Happy birthday to Kolbe.

My father in law will be 85 tomorrow. Just a slight difference in ages. We're taking him out to eat at Cheddars in Ashland, KY.

Happy Birthday Kolbe!    Hey, I see you and Dave both trying to out do Moose's 8's.
Parent - - By OldAndInTheWay Date 2017-09-15 8:23 AM

Parent - By Kymoose [us] Date 2017-09-15 1:23 PM

Cannot believe he is 8! Happy Birthday!

Sadly no run this morning.  Just could not do it.    I went outside, built a fire in the potbelly and sat with a cup of coffee and watched the sun come up.  Oh, and cooked some Spam on the fire.

I may go to a Phillies game tonight.  They are very entertaining right now with a bunch of exciting rookies who just started the last couple of months.  One rookie has hit 18 home runs and he just started the big leagues a month ago.

1/2 done.   Most of my projects are like 1/4 done, so I don't really qualify.

Halfway with September means fall break is around corner.  That doesn't even sound right.

I only ran 5 miles this morning.  Just seemed like a good morning to cut back.

We have Fall Festival at school this evening.   It's a huge annual fundraiser.  I don't know when I'll get home, but I only live 2 miles from the school so I never have a long drive anymore.
Parent - - By Grey Beard Tom [us] Date 2017-09-15 1:39 PM
Five.  FIVE.  V,   4+1  Did you see that folks?   You must be really cutting back, resting up for that fall festival.

We better make sure that  Mike is ok.

Mike -- are you feeling ok?  Anything less than 8 miles has us wondering about you.
