More than I expected! I thought I wasn't even going to hit 40 this week. I won't say I'm feeling good (45mpw at 33 feels like 85mpw at 25) but I'm glad to be back running consistently.

Arimathea, 30.11

First double digit run (outside of a race) in a long time on Saturday. Schedule has been crazy.

It's starting to look less and less likely that I'll make my yearly projection.  I'd have to average about 50 miles a week to do so, and it's been difficult to get in consistent miles, especially that many miles.  Sorry team, I'm letting you all down here.

Had an MRI last week.  Some discouraging things, some requirements for additional tests.  As far as the back issues I've been struggling with for the past couple of years:

Degenerative changes lower lumbar spine with severe degenerative changes L5-S1 and Modic type I degenerative endplate edema.

That at least corresponds pretty closely with the issues I've been having.  Don't know the full ramifications yet, but am getting some pressure to dial it down.  At this point I'm just counting any miles I can get in as a bonus and we'll see where it goes.

Dang! That is something to contend with for sure. Just dial it back and enjoy what you're able to do. Hope you start to feel better soon.

Glad you got it done so soon. You'll be back sooner than you think if you take the rehab seriously and also don't rush it.

For my second one, deep pool water running (with a floatation belt) was an invaluable substitute for land running both mentally and physically and worked really well for me in the rehab along with the exercises. If you have access to that somewhere, I highly recommend it although it's almost as boring as a TM (a waterproof mp3 player helped).

My best in your rehab and recovery!

Scope is not done yet, this Thursday. I have a pool in my backyard you know.. 8 foot deep. I've actually tried pool running a few times but more like tredding water since I don't have a floatation belt. I get sick of it after 5 minutes.
Parent - By jaszflamus (I like wool!) Date 2017-08-08 5:39 PM
I wouldn't recommend treading water without the belt...too much of the wrong kind of strain on your knees. I did mine at the Y so at least there were other peeps around but yes it's boring. Although with an mp3 player and the fact that you actually move forward when wearing the belt and "running" I could tolerate it for an hour and also run different kinds of workouts. Consider it.

I'll be thinking of you and my best wishes on the surgery.
