August already -- wow!
What is on tap for today? It is hump day - the weekend is almost here!
14.24 miles this morning. 10 mile progression run. 10 seconds faster each mile. 9:10-7:40. 4 miles easy.
Sticky and a bit skanky.
Nice. You are maintaining your race fitness with those kind of runs.
thats the plan. planning on doing one last fast-ish marathon in October. workouts have felt easy. Heart and lungs are working nicely. just have to keep the old legs happy.
well hello there...
7.5 miles at GA. Late start. Trying to catch up on some missed sleep. Run felt good today. Most likely the best run to date. More humid than yesterday but not unbearable.
Someone has to bring down these averages.
No traffic since school hasn't started yet. Humid though. Usually the August heat and humidity don't kick in until the first day of school. (no a/c in the buildings)
What school system does not put a/c in their facilities?? Apparently the one next to you. I didn't have a/c in my gym at my last school for the first couple of years. Talk about hot. It was a big metal building and we had two huge box fans that were of little help. I had no problem making the kids sweat in my class.
I can smell your gym now.

My high school class was at the end of the day. I was thankful those kids were not in the morning or early afternoon.
Where we live the a/c rarely goes on after August. It is too big an expense for something that would only be used for 10-20 days. And 2 of the buildings are circa 1920.....radiator heat. No ductwork for a/c. Retrofitting would be an astronomical cost. And then there's the fact that Illinois is broke and hasn't funded it's public school obligations recently.....
yeah girl. I hear ya. it's a shame. they always take from the kids.
Ran another 3 this morning at the park.
President Trump is coming to town tomorrow and the supporters and protesters are getting ready. The downtown (such as it is) will be pretty much shutdown tomorrow. The only thing sadder than see people waste their lives going to rallies and participating in "marches" are the people who waste their lives protesting them.
Wasting away in protestingville.
Looking for my lost common sense.
Some say it's the Trump man to blame
But I know....It's my own darn fault.

No run report.
Just chasing kids around the yard. Wrapping up in the mountains of NC. It's been great, but I get on the big silver streamliner and head back to Delaware. Overnight train, change in DC.
Grandaughter Anna is an honorary Freshman in the high school marching band. She is one a few 8th graders invited.
Bandcamp....8-4PM for 2 weeks. Each day starts with a run, calisthenics, stretching then formation marching. The PE teacher leads it. Anna Faith is enjoying it. She plays flute She is eager each morning.
Tom in the mountains of Western Carolina.....I don't want to leave......

Hey, now that's the way to kick off camp each morning. Those darn PE teachers always sneak in some fitness routine. Way to go to Anna.
I was in Asheville last week for three days at UNCA. The mountains were pretty and the humidity not as bad as Kentucky. If I go back next July, we got to make plans.

Good for Anna. I hope you get to see a performance. I'm sure her proud mama will take a video if you can't see her in person.
Melissa left this morning to sit in a chair all day at a PD. I left before her to run on trails for 4 hours. 21.29 miles run. Saw no wildlife, but I swear I heard some animal growl among the trees. I never have heard that there and still don't know what the heck it was. There's nothing out there except foxes, bobcats, coyotes, and raccoons. Just your typical forest friends.
Makayla has open house at her high school this evening. I can't believe my girl will be a senior this year!
Senior year. No. Just no.
awesome run this morning by the way.
Thanks. I remember you humorously telling me that I would want amnesia when Makayla became an 8th grader to forget some of the things she would say/do.
A senior! I can't believe that. Pretty soon you too will be an empty nester!
I've finally become used to Ryan being gone. A year from now we'll have a complete empty nest. I'm not really looking forward to it.
don't know how I"m gonna do with that little nugget either.
